Why was Casey even worried about this? He didn't like Vera! But he worried nevertheless.

He tried telling himself that he had been careful and the chances of Kane meeting her were low but they still lived in the same building. He could run into her eventually and, knowing him, he would do something embarrassing.

"Thanks for coming to the movies with me," Vera said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Of course. A-anytime."

Stupid! What had Casey just agreed to? Why was he leaving an open-ended offer like that? She wouldn't actually take him up on it, would she? That was just a thing people said, right?

She smiled but said nothing but goodbye as they parted ways at their respective doors. He plopped onto the couch feeling like his soul had left him. Today really hadn't been good for his heart or his nerves.
