54 Listen To Me

Before he could say anything, Elena turned away and darted off.

Elena's mind was blank as she slammed her finger onto the elevator button several times. She heard footsteps rushing down the stairs, and she quickly entered the elevator, rushing to close the door. She didn't want to see him.

Elena turned around and saw Lu Chenjun running over. Her tapping quickened as she saw the elevator door beginning to close.

Lu Chenjun was getting closer and closer, until he was gone. The elevator door shook as Lu Chenjun slammed his fist on it, hoping that it would open.

The elevator dropped, and so did Elena's tears. She looked down at her empty hands, realizing that she had left the food container on the ground when she was running away.

Not that it mattered.

The conversation between Grandpa Li and Lu Chenjun replayed in Elena's mind several times.

'Promise me that if he asks you to break up, you will give up, okay?' Lu Chenjun hadn't asked Elena to break up yet, but it was going to happen in the near future.

On the 52nd floor, Lu Chenjun knew that if he waited for the elevator to come back up, it would be too late.

He looked around, his eyes resting on the emergency exit staircase. Before he ran over, Lu Chenjun shot Fang Shi a deadly glare.

Lu Chenjun swung the door open and hurriedly ran down a flight of stairs.

Grandpa Li shook his head and slowly made his way over to the elevator. Sometimes, an outsider could see and understand the situation better than the person involved.

Grandpa Li could tell that Lu Chenjun wasn't being truthful to himself. Grandpa Li believed in spiritual ideas like destiny and karma. He didn't want to go in and mess around with Lu Chenjun's life path.

He could only wait and watch fate bring the two people that were meant for each other together.

Lu Chenjun ran out of the emergency exit door on the 51st floor and rushed over to the elevators.

The workers there were surprised to see their boss suddenly show up on their level. However, before they could even get a good look at him, Lu Chenjun disappeared. His long legs proved useful as he arrived in front of the elevator in no time.

He slammed his fist onto the elevator button, waiting for the door to open.

"D**n elevator, hurry up!" Lu Chenjun cursed.

Finally, the door opened, showing an empty elevator car.

During the ride down to the first floor, Lu Chenjun paced nervously around in the cramped space, his heart beating abnormally fast.

He knew that he was going to have to tell her, so why did he feel so guilty and so sad when he actually did.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. Lu Chenjun slammed one fist onto the elevator wall, trying to get rid of his frustration.

The normal elevators moved slower than his private one, and it took a while before he finally reached the first floor.

He immediately ran out, pushing past the groups of people that were waiting for an elevator ride up.

Lu Chenjun immediately spotted Elena, who had just walked out of the front door and was preparing to make a left turn.

He called out her name and ran over.

Elena turned around and saw Lu Chenjun running towards her. Her eyes widened and her natural reaction was to escape.

She whipped around and ran straight into the rain. Elena knew that she would be trapped if she entered the underground parking lot, so she ran along the sidewalk as fast as she could.

Lu Chenjun's legs were several inches longer than Elena's, and he was slowly decreasing the distance between them.

The rain was getting heavier, and Elena couldn't tell if the water on her cheeks were from her tears or from the rain anymore.

She kept running, her eyes looking up from the ground for a second. However, during that second, Elena's foot slipped on the slippery floor, and she fell backward, unable to keep her balance.

She closed her eyes to avoid getting any rain in them as she leaned backward, one foot lifting off the ground.

Just as she was sure that she was going to break something by hitting the hard sidewalk, she felt a strong arm catch her, pulling her into a warm but wet embrace.

She took a second to react from getting saved by the fall. Elena looked up, her eyes meeting Lu Chenjun's.

How did he catch up so fast? Elena was certain that she had a good head start.

She quickly regained her balance as she stood up and brushed her wet hair that was sticking to her face away.

Elena wanted to say something, but she couldn't. She stared at Lu Chenjun, who was angry at her.

"Why can't you keep your eyes on the floor? If you had actually fallen and hit your head, what if you got hurt? Can't you be more careful? Why did you run away? Listen to me!"

Elena stared blankly at Lu Chenjun's wet face, not replying to a single question.

'Why was he mad?' Elena thought. 'Shouldn't I be the one mad?'

Lu Chenjun's eyes narrowed and he grabbed onto her arm.

He turned around, pulling Elena back towards the LIQuan Company. Elena didn't resist and allowed herself to be led by Lu Chenjun.

Back in front of the LIQuan Company, Fang Shi saw Lu Chenjun and Elena walking back. He immediately ran over with an umbrella, preventing Lu Chenjun from getting more wet.

Lu Chenjun immediately snatched the umbrella over and held it over Elena. Fang Shi looked over, his eyes turning from shock to sadness.

He got the umbrella, but now he was the one getting wet. Fang Shi pouted, but didn't say anything as he walked into the underground parking lot with his boss.

Lu Chenjun walked over to his car and helped Elena into the backseat. He closed the door and walked over to the other side.

"Jinlu Complex."

Lu Chenjun threw the car keys over to Fang Shi and got in from the other side.

Elena's hair and clothes were still dripping water, and before long, the whole car seat was wet from the rain.

She didn't spare Lu Chenjun a single glance and looked out the window the entire ride to the Jinlu Complex.

Elena didn't know what to say. In her mind, she was debating endlessly about whether she should just break up with Lu Chenjun.

If she asked, would Lu Chenjun agree? He would, right?

Right before they reached the house, Elena came up with a conclusion in her mind. She should just stay silent. If you stay quiet, no one would know what you are thinking. Instead of brainlessly saying something, she should just wait for Lu Chenjun to talk first.

Lu Chenjun got off the car first and walked around to open the car door for Elena.

Elena didn't say anything or even look at Lu Chenjun as she walked out and followed Fang Shi towards the front door.

Auntie Qin opened the door after hearing the ringing doorbell and was shocked to see Elena standing outside, drenched from the rain.

She quickly assisted Elena into her room and left to go ask Lu Chenjun what happened.

Elena sat silently on her bed, not really caring that she was getting the bedsheets wet. She stared at the wall in dazed silence, wondering why Lu Chenjun brought her back here.

She continued to stare at the wall when she heard a knock at the door. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Lu Chenjun enter and walk towards her.
