Facing a Big Enemy, No Time for Pretense

Emery led me forward, and I noticed that the underground city's structures didn't resemble typical houses. They seemed more like compartments, with each compartment forming a specific area. Passages or gangways separated these areas, and both the roads and bridges were made of steel, including the compartments. The entire underground city didn't seem like it was constructed by humans digging and using materials like cement; rather, it appeared as if a massive steel city had been built and then buried underground.

"Wife, follow me!" Emery tugged at my sleeve. I no longer resisted him; facing a big enemy, there was no time for pretense.

He took me into a narrow alley, and at the end of the alley appeared a small door similar to the compartments. He opened it, revealing a passage that only one or two people could pass through. Due to the open door, two rows of small yellow lights embedded in the floor lit up the dim passage. The light was faint, only providing enough visibility to make out the passage.

As expected, the passage was also made of steel.

Emery took me inside, and the door closed behind us. In the dim light, Emery smirked at me, "Wife, now it's just the two of us. Aren't you afraid... that I'll eat you up?" He made a motion like a wild beast pouncing for prey.

I coldly looked at him, "Childish."

"Uh..." He awkwardly withdrew his hand, turned around, and said, "Come on, I'll take you somewhere." With that, he walked forward.

I followed behind him, and this path didn't seem to lead to his room.In the quiet passage, only our footsteps echoed softly.

"Do you know what Edmond wanted to do just now?" He spoke with his arms crossed in front of his chest.

I gave him a cold look at the back of his head, "How would I know?"

He suddenly turned around, walking backward, "Luckily, I arrived in time. He wanted to test if you were really deaf. His device can emit high-decibel sounds."

"Exactly!" I gritted my teeth in hatred.

"Are you... sure you're not Edmond's runaway fiancée?" He asked cautiously.

I immediately glared at him, "You're the one who's his fiancé! Your whole family is his fiancé!"

"Calm down! Wife, calm down..." He held his hands forward, trying to soothe me with a gentler tone.

I took a deep breath, making an effort to calm myself. He observed me closely, his amber eyes filled with curiosity.

I stopped in my tracks, hands on my hips, and took another deep breath.

"From what it looks like, Edmond doesn't seem to be the person we usually see..." This pig-headed guy finally realized it! I looked at Emery, who was rubbing his chin in contemplation. "So, this is the kind of person Edmond is...""He's the one who threw me down!" I glared at him, angrily pushing his face away. He looked at me in surprise, "Him?!"

"Yeah!" I nodded, then looked at him, "Why did you think I was Edmond's runaway fiancée? Did his fiancée run away too?"

Emery was momentarily stunned, touched his head, and chuckled, "I was just joking. You're a girl, and Edmond is in such a hurry to find someone. I made it up."

I looked at him for a moment, turned my gaze away, "I know, I'm trouble. I'll leave once Edmond is gone."

"No! Wife!" He hastily grabbed my sleeve, "It's too dangerous outside. How can I let my wife go out? Don't worry, even if Asna doesn't protect you, I will!"

His words brought a slight touch of emotion to my heart, despite his habitual use of the term "wife."I shook off his hand, "Don't touch me! I'm not your wife!"

"Hehe..." He, like Uncle Dominic, revealed that silly and foolish but somewhat wise smile.

I glanced at him irritably, "Where are you taking me, anyway?"

He snapped back to reality, and his amber eyes sparkled in the dim light. He raised a finger to his lips, "Shh..." Then, he turned and continued to move forward quietly, trying not to make any noise. I followed him stealthily.

Finally, at the end of the passage, another round door appeared. This door was much smaller, suitable for just one person to pass through. Emery pressed a button on the side, and the door slid open, revealing a circular compartment inside, with a cannon!

A faint sunlight shone on a type of cannon I had never seen before. It sat quietly in this small compartment, resembling a dormant beast.

Emery entered, beckoning for me to follow. What kind of underground city was this? But if it was a city, having its own armed weapons was reasonable.

Despite the seemingly normal scene, something felt off.

I followed Emery into this compartment with a cannon. Emery stepped onto what seemed to be the gunner's seat and poked his head out of a small opening above.

But my attention was involuntarily drawn to the cannon. It didn't look like a bullet-firing weapon, and the barrel wasn't large. Its slender body made it more reminiscent of a machine gun, and on top of the barrel, there were numerous small openings. The caliber was larger than that of a machine gun, making me think it was a cannon. The barrel was closed with a special crystal.

What kind of cannon was this? It seemed like a laser weapon.

"Wife, come up." Emery lowered his voice and called me. I glanced at him, lifted my skirt, and stood on the gunner's seat. I joined Emery, poking my head out of the small opening. Immediately, a refreshing breeze blew in, and in front of us were those weeds!我 froze, then went back to look at the small hole above. It protruded upward, shaped much like... the mounds of soil on the ground outside the underground city!

Me!Damn! So those were all gun barrels! No wonder they were arranged so neatly!

I stuck my head out again. The visible range of this small hole was limited, but I happened to see Edmond and his team's spaceship. At the moment, only one ship was parked outside, similar to the one Edmond initially rode, designed for two or three people. The other ship was three times larger, presumably for the soldiers Edmond brought along.

"This spaceship is amazing!" Emery marveled, his eyes filled with envy. "If only I could have one. I hope Edmund can use that escape pod to make one for me..."

Suddenly, footsteps approached from the side, and the soldiers emerged. Emery immediately stopped talking.

Then, we saw Asna sending Edmond and Shajah out.

The position of this gun barrel was excellent, allowing us to see everything at the entrance.

"Lord Edmond, this is clean water. Please don't disdain it," Asna shyly handed a bottle of water to Edmond, her face still lowered.

Edmond accepted it with a smile, "Thank you; water is essential. Asna, please be vigilant of strangers, also for the safety of your Noah City."

"Thank you for the reminder, Lord," Asna remained shy, avoiding direct eye contact with Edmond. After all, Asna was still just a teenage girl.

"Asna likes Edmond?" I asked, lowering my voice.

Emery nodded, whispering, "Edmond saved Asna."

"Hmph, he's saved many people." I sneered, only those abandoned by him would see his true face.

"Asna, goodbye." Edmond turned and walked towards the spaceship in front of us. Asna took a step forward, lifting her face, watching Edmond's departing figure with reluctance. However, Shajah walked up from the side, blocking Asna, "Princess, please go back. It's windy outside."

Gentle words, but in my eyes, it was clearly a dismissal.

Asna smiled and nodded, turning back to the underground city. Celeste, who stood by the door, closed it as Asna returned.

The spaceship emitted a buzzing sound, and the white cabin door began to open. Inside, there were compartments emitting a faint blue light, looking clean and refreshing.

Shajah looked at Edmond with a smile, "Lord, Princess Asna is beautiful and kind. She..."
