Chapter 14

Carina nodded and led the way through the corridors of the house to a large pair of doors that she pushed open to reveal a huge chamber and a bed that could sleep at least four people. She pushed the door closed behind them and moved to sit on a chair by the bed. She looked so tired and was hurting still so he walked over and knelt at her feet.

“How did you learn my name?” she asked him, words almost soft enough that he didn’t catch them. “Did my Protector tell you?”

“He did, he said that I wasn’t supposed to say it within anyone’s earshot, but since we’re alone-“ He startled as she slipped out of the chair and knelt in front of him. “What are you doing, Carina?”

She reached up and ran a soft hand down the side of his face. “It has been years since someone has said my name, since someone other than my Protector has touched me. Ishaan, will you touch me now?”
