Dictionaries are not everyone's go-to books when stressed, but for Elise, a dictionary is all the peace she needs when a hurricane hits her life.
"Okay! The room is a mess and full of dictionaries!", Abrams voiced her thoughts as she entered the writer's den.
"Rams not now!", Elise said without even sparing a glance at her best friend.
"Did you buy these many dictionaries?", Leo asked following Abrams into the room.
"I did!", Elise kept her answer short, and her head buried inside the thesaurus.
"Okay! She is officially losing it. Our best friend needs help!", Abrams panicked as she picked up the dictionaries of different sizes from the floor.
"Guys! Seriously I need to be alone right now. I have deadlines to meet, and I am way behind my schedule.", Elise muttered finally looking at them.
"Oh no! You are a college student. And college student needs to have fun!", Abrams denied Elise's request and took the dictionary from her hands.
"Abrams please!", Elise huffed in annoyance. One thing Elise hated the most was people disturbing her while she was hiding in her writer's den with her head weaving another story. Not to forget, tons of stories were left unfinished!
Elise had a thing for beginnings, new beginnings. She was not the patient kind, never waiting long enough to see how a series ends or how a character dies. Elise started the series with the last episode to know how it ends and what to expect. She loves spoilers and while others ran away from spoilers, she begged to get some. But as a writer, she wrote the most unexpected twists and turns that left the readers guessing. In Elise's world, there was just one rule- Elise was the one who needs to know everything!
"Elise you can't just stay inside this dingy little room all your life!", Leo intervened. He cared for his friend. Deeply.
"Doesn't sound impossible to me Leo! But seriously guys today I have a lot on my plate.", Elise said.
"Okay! We will let you stay here only on one condition.", Abrams got to the point directly. This was the plan after all, wasn't it?
"What condition now Abrams!", Elise looked at her friend showing she had her full attention.
"You have to promise us that you will go out for dinner with us tomorrow night!", Abrams kept her condition. There seemed no harm in going out for dinner. Three friends and a dinner!
"Okay! I promise!", Elise nodded, and Abrams squealed.
"You want to hang out that bad Rams!", Elise laughed.
"You never go out with us anymore, so yes pardon me for being all excited.", Abrams did an eye roll. Another thing about Abrams, she always got what she wanted. Scheming was her second name, and Abrams had a way with her plans.
"So, now can you two leave me alone?", Elise asked pointing towards the door.
"Okay! I am out!", Leo was the first to leave.
"Me too!", and a very excited Abrams left after.
Elise was busy working on her book, while her friends now had a date to plan. Abrams was certain that this date will be it for her best friend.
"Rams you know how picky Elise is.", Leo said. He was right. Elise was a girl people often call a shopkeeper's nightmare. She walks into the store, picks a dozen clothes, and then walks out empty-handed. It took her a week to buy a skirt, which she needed urgently. There was no way she was going to like the first guy she goes on a blind date with.
"And I know her inside out, so I also know what it is that she needs.", Abrams replied. Abrams even though blinded by her goal, was still looking out for her best friend.
If we were looking at what Abrams would call a perfect blind date guy, we would find ourselves in a company of a rich, chivalrous, egoist, handsome, multilingual man. But the one she called for her best friend was just a college guy, as she calls him. The guy her best friend had been chasing for a while without no one knowing. Except for Abrams!
"Did you really call Daniel?", Leo asked finding it hard to control his smile.
It's true, friendship makes you do stuff you never knew you were capable of. Daniel according to Abrams is a social suicide. No Abrams is not Manhattan's upper east side elite with multiple scandals under her name, but she definitely loves to maintain a social image. And Daniel Cameron is a blacklisted guy.
"I did!", she said with a shrug.
"Why?", Leo asked full-on beaming now.
"Because I have seen El's puppy eyes only once, and it was for Daniel Cameron!", Abrams was proud of her observation skills.
"And that made you think Elise likes him?", Leo asked wondering how she jumps to conclusions this fast.
"Yes, obviously. She will thank me later.", Abrams said and walked out of the café where they managed to book a table for their so-called love birds. Birds who didn't even know they were birds yet!
"Did Daniel agree?", Leo ran after her. He knew his place when it came to Abrams, it was always the chasing part he got. She was the showstopper.
"I guess I didn't give him an option.", she replied with a smirk.
"Where did you even get his number from?", Leo was intrigued. He knew Abrams loved her friends, but he had no idea she loved Elise enough to go around asking for Daniel's number.
"That is my little secret and I am not letting you in on this one.", she said.
"Okay! And how do you plan to tell Elise, what you just did? That she is not going on a dinner with us.", Leo knew if it's a secret, then there is no point asking more about it. It's better to fire other questions which have more chance of getting answered.
"You will bring her here, and then leave her here alone with some excuse. Once she meets the guy and likes him, I am sure she will forgive us!", Abrams was a little too optimistic about the forgiveness part.
"Why me? You bring her here!", Leo didn't want the spotlight. He was happy being backstage.
"I have already done enough. Plus, we all know Elise has a soft spot for you!", Abrams had a point. But then everyone had a soft spot for a naïve guy like Leo.
"Okay! Just for Elise!", he said. That is exactly what everyone meant by naïve!
