CHAPTER 6: WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET ME NOW?

SHANE

I walked my path back to the school where I was on duty since it is Wednesday. I did not expect that I met Macy again for so many years. I still remember that time. It was my senior year when she disappears few months before the end of the school year.

I asked my sister Shay about her why I have not seen her in school or even visiting into our house. And she said that she moved to her grandmother's house for some illness or something.

The last time I seen her when she in school looking at me from afar. A sweet smile that curved into her face. I did not know that was her last day.

I did not even expect that she is back now and my sister never mentioned her to me. Well, why should be my sister tell me about Macy?

First of all, we were not that close of course, Shay will never share such information about her best friend. I chuckled, walking like a crazy person towards the clinic.

I arrived in the clinic, my daughter was already awake smiling at me as she saw the box in my hand. Her smiled made my heart bigger. Knowing that she really loves that strawberry bread. And not just that bread but also the person who baked it.

We went home after my duty and had a dinner with my parents with a little chatting before retiring to each other's room.

I tucked in first for my little princess to her bed as usual.

"Daddy, did you see Ms. Jane when you were in the bakeshop? She asked looking at me.

"Yes, I did and I knew her long time ago and her name is Macy, your Aunt Shayla's best friend." I spoke.

"Really, Daddy, they were best friend. I really like her dad and she is pretty too."

I saw again my daughter's eyes sparkling when she admired Macy.

"Yeah, baby, I heard you, for the first time when you met her. She is really pretty just like you. Okay, now go to sleep, school tomorrow." I said as I pulled the blanket up to her chest. "Goodnight, little princess, I love you." And I kissed her cheeks.

"Goodnight too daddy, I love you too."

I turned off her lights.

I went back to my room. I grabbed my phone from the night stand and scrolled the name I wanted to call.

My daughter was right Macy is really pretty. She is more gorgeous as she gets older. That face.

I started to recall; I first saw her walking confidently. That face, I always saw when she was with my sister.

That face, I always saw in our house mostly every day. That face, I always liked to look at when we were in school. That face, who smile beautifully and friendly to all. That face, that I cannot easily forget.

I tried to stop myself not to call her but I could not help it. My heart will always beat strangely whenever I saw her even before. I am not teenager anymore I loved my wife.

I did feel something for her when I first laid my eyes on her but with Macy it was more than that.

She makes me feel like Jelly-O. I think this time I need to make a move because we are adults now. Not some high school students anymore.

I dialed her number when I search her name in my phone contacts, few rings she answers.

"Hello" I heard her voice on the other line.

"Hi, did I wake you up? Or are you busy?" I asked but nervously. "Are you busy?" Asked repeatedly.

"No, I just finished doing my night routine. So, what's up?" she asked.

"Oh, nothing much just wants a little chatting if it is okay with you." I bite my lips and crossed my fingers hoping that she will like to talk to me.

I heard her sighed. "Okay, why not? What do you want to talk about?"

"What about why you disappear all of the sudden in your high school life?" I asked for starter.

I know it has been in my head all throughout the years. I was interested about her ditching high school before the school year ends at that time. I did not hear her voice but I heard her breathing.

"Well, something personal came up and I do not have a choice." She replied with a sigh.

"Was this about your grandma's illness? That was I know about when I asked Shay about you." I said slowly laying in my bed.

"No, it was something else and that I cannot really tell you. Not now, maybe someday when I am ready." She said and I can sense that there is something wrong.

"So, tell me about your life, your wife, everything you have been. It shocked me that you were once married and take note in college." I heard her chuckled.

"Weird, isn't it? Me too, I did not expect but it was not love at first thing if that what you mean." I began telling my life in college.

"It was not?" She asked.

"No, only one person that I felt love at first sight but that person got away." I confessed.

"Huh!

"What I mean was what I felt my wife back them was love too. We were partners in most every classes." I said hearing her breath. "She was really nice and kind and I could not say anything bad things about her. Then we felt in love and got serious. She got pregnant without waiting too long got married that summer. We had so many plans building our family but..." I paused for a while thinking about my wife when I saw her lying in the operating room.

"Shane, are you alright?" She asked in concern.

"Yeah, yeah." I mumbled. I looked at the clock it was nine o'clock in the evening. "Would you like to meet me now and grab some coffee or something? We will not take too long I know we have work tomorrow and..." She replied to me immediately before I finished my sentence.

"Okay!" I heard her say.

"Really, you do not mind?" I asked again

"Yes, I do not mind and besides my ear numb talking to you on the phone." I heard her laughed.

I laughed too. "Be there in 15 minutes I am in front of bakeshop."

"Okay, see you then."
