CHAPTER 14: MACY’S SON

I rose up immediately when my alarm hits at 6 o'clock in the morning. It is my schedule on duty to the school clinic. I got to use to it being there seeing little kids. And be with my daughter as well even twice a week I can spend closer to her.

After doing my morning session, I came downstairs and found my daughter eating her breakfast when I enter the dining.

"Good morning little princess." I greeted my daughter. "How was your sleep?"

"Good morning daddy. I slept well." She replied as I kissed her head.

"You want some coffee son?" my mother asked.

"Yes, Mom please, thanks" I replied.

"I can see that you love your job in school than in the hospital." My father says as he sipped his coffee.

"Well, I love both my job Dad but in school I can be with Shanice whole day even twice a week." I admitted.

"Daddy, I like you work in school I can see you after my classes." She said sweetly.

"Me too, baby!" I smiled.

"Okay, okay, hurry up you two. You will be going to be late if you keep on talking than eating." My mother reminded us. "And you too, old man." She added.

We chuckled and my dad just shook his head. I love my parents so much. If it is not for them with me right now I could not stand alone. They have been doing excellent role models to me and Shanice.

I send my daughter to her classroom and I started walking towards my clinic. Then I noticed a kid standing at the door of the clinic facing his back at me. He was having second thought going inside.

"Good morning, how can I help you?" I asked when I got closer to him. He turned his head to me and I saw who he was.

"I-I was bleeding. My arm..." he said then my eyes looked down to his arm.

"How did you get that? Come on, let me treat you first." I said and lead him inside. I let him sat on the chair. "Wait here, I will get some treatment for that." He nodded.

I grabbed some bandage, alcohol and others for his wound. I went back to him.

"Where did you get this cut?" I asked. It was not deep cut and not big but it bled quite few.

"I was walking down the hall and did not notice there was a nail." He confesses.

I cleaned it properly his wound and gave him anti tetanus vaccine for injection.

"Okay, just be careful next time." I reminded him. "What is your name son? You are the basketball player with jersey number 9, am I correct?" I asked.

"My name is Shan Matt." He said and I was blinking my eyes many times. "And yes, that is my number. I chose that number because of my dad. He was wearing number 9 too when he was young." I saw him happy.

I cleared my throat. "So, where is your dad now? I am sure he watched your first game." I asked further.

"I do not know; my mom did not tell me where my dad is right now." He said with sadness in his eyes. "I do not even see him in person."

"Why, you have not? How did you know that he was number 9 if you do not know your dad?" I asked curiosity.

"I saw his picture in my mom's drawer." He answered. "It was an old picture, my mom kept it and he's been studying here before it was that logo in our school." He added.

"Okay, do not worry. Your mom will tell you everything about your father." I assured him. "For now, go back to your classes and I will give the slip for not on your first period. Avoid wet in your wound, okay?" I do not know what it gotten me but I hugged me.

"Thank you, Doctor." He smiled.

"You are welcome, son." I said. "Just come here anytime and find me. If you have troubles or not. I am always here for you." He nodded and hugged me too.

When Macy's son went out, I told the nurse that I will be out for a couple of hours. I will go to the hospital for some important things to do.

I grabbed the bloody cotton balls I used to clean his wound and placed it inside the plastic sealed.

I was trembling as I rode in my car towards the hospital. I know I do not have doubts seeing what I see. But I have to be sure and must have proof. Solid proof to show it before I could confront her.

I reached the hospital and walked towards the laboratory for DNA Testing.

"Dr. Shane, what a pleasant surprise!" Dr. Brian, my colleague smiled at me. He was one of the in charge in the lab.

"Well, I have urgent favor for you to do for me, buddy." I said as handed him the plastic sealed with blood cotton ball. "Can you do DNA Test for that?"

"Only one?" Dr. Brian asked.

"Can you compare this blood to mine? And I will wait if you do not have urgent pending." I added. He then got a hint.

"Okay, right away. This is more important." He replied. "Just relax over there. It won't take this long."

I nodded and walked far from him. I do not want to hinder his work. I did not sit down to the chair he pointed at me to relax. I could not relax at all knowing what I want to know.

I was walking back and forth while waiting for the result. I have strong feeling already. Just like I said earlier, it needs SOLID PROOF.

Dr. Brian called when my mind was a mess. If it wasn't for the nurse approached me that I did not know.

I walked towards him and his eyes were focus on me as I looked at him.

"This is the result." As he handed me the printed paper.
