12 (12) Vousenne [2]

From that moment on, Veren visited Vousenne every day. Ordering the maids to help her in the morning, he visited only at night.

He couldn't order the servants to help at night, just in case they got dragged into the incident.

Within two days, one of the best doctors in the holy kingdom arrived. Duke Walprus couldn't abandon Vousenne officially, as the information of him adopting her was already spread out.

Maintaining a reputation was a must for any noble. Abandoning one's reputation could only point to two things, either he is an idiot or has some ulterior motive

'Seeing the wasted money to hire a doctor, maintaining his reputation is important for him...I wonder what he is planning.'

The doctor introduced himself.

"I'm Helvry, a doctor from the holy light church. Let me be clear with you, your chance of survival is almost zero. I will do my best to research a way to cure it, like always. But don't hope for a miracle." Helvry's words were cold.

He experienced treating many people suffering from spiritual dysfunction and he failed every time. But this middle-aged man never gave up...it was the only hope of saving his daughter.

Veren closely looked at the doctor and then left the room.

'It must be tomorrow then, I should be prepared. Helvry...his daughter is the main female lead in the novel.'

Unlike many novels - 'The Rise of the holy empire' wasn't of the harem genre. It contained only a single female lead and that too of a level of her own.

She was a god-kin with almost 90% blood purity. Her blood was later awakened while in the process of being trained as an inquisitor.

A human with 80% bloodline purity could destroy kingdoms, so what about 90%?

'She was a god damn calamity....she later on had the power to destroy the continent with ease. If I have such strength...I can definitely get my hand on the sphere of wish.' Veren's eyes glowed with determination.

He couldn't allow himself to be dragged behind the others. In the end, everyone would try to acquire the sphere of wish. Which meant that Veren would have to fight against the whole world.

The next day.

Veren found himself restless, he arrived at Vousenne's room before it turned night. Ignoring the person on the bed, he began watching out of the window, towards the stars that were beginning to show themselves. All the stars almost formed a galaxy, giving the viewer a sight to behold.

Vousenne had seen Veren do the same thing every day. She even felt the scene before her to be the most natural.

After she was treated by Helvry, Vousenne recovered to a degree. She could walk around her room by herself now. But her body was still collapsing internally according to him.

Sitting on one corner of the bed, Vousenne fixedly stared at Veren.

"Why do you always look at the sky...?" Vousenne still hesitated a little like before, but she didn't feel fear anymore.

"Waiting." Veren's answer was brisk.

"For what?"

"....." Veren calmly continued to look out of the window.

The sky of this world contained numerous stars, and they held a special meaning. All the stars in the night sky represented a god.

Therefore, seeing people praying towards the sky wasn't a rare sight at all. No new star had formed throughout the past five hundred years and neither has any disappeared.

But...that would change today. The god of time, Veltus, will die today for unknown reasons.

After who knows how long, Veren's eyes sparkled with a bright light. He saw a star shine bright for a second, before falling from the sky. He remembered the words from the novel.

{After the death of Veltus, his divinity dispersed into a thousand pieces. Vanishing like the last sparkle of Veltus's star. However, one of these sparkles fell to the mortal world.

Creating upon a tragedy known as Vousenne.}

"..." Veren stood before Vousenne, closely looking at her.

"...what....?"

It happened then, dozens of cracks appeared between them and vanished just as quickly as it appeared.

".....!" Vousenne jumped back in fright; relaxing upon seeing nothing happening.

'It would be pointless to train from this point forward.' Veren breathed in deeply.

This moment marked the start of Vousenne's nightmare.

.....

Even after experiencing a strange phenomenon yesterday night, Vousenne didn't find anything strange around her.

Still....

'That guy doesn't get surprised no matter what happens, huh?' Vousenne thought about how Veren left naturally as if nothing had happened yesterday.

That very night, Vousenne's condition deteriorated again. Surprising Helvry.

"Just what kind of spirit have you signed a contract with....?"

"..."

"Sorry, that was rude of me." Helvry looked at Vousenne with pity.

Normally, Vousenne would have been depressed by this news. But something else bothered her today.

'He didn't come to visit today...' Vousenne tried to suppress the inexplicable sadness in her heart.

Veren had visited every night from the day her health dropped.

'Why is he not visiting...? Does he not know that my health deteriorated?'

["...."] The queen spirit watched in silence.

It went on like that for the next three days, Vousenne's health deteriorated with no stop in sight. Veren didn't visit even once during this time.

'It hurts...!! I can't move, I can't see, I can't even hear anything...!' she felt like someone was poking holes in her skin using a pin. With not much experience with pain, she felt like she was going crazy.

["This is the farewell."]

The queen spirit spoke at an appropriate time.

'What do you...'

["Your life is coming to an end. Truthfully, I didn't like you at first. I didn't know I could get attached to a human kid like this, but alas..."]

'No way....that can't be! I-I don't want it to end like this! Help me, please just take this pain away...' Vousenne felt her mind slowly growing dim.

["I'm sorry...."]

Vousenne died at that moment.

Blink~

".....!" Vousenne quivered, being able to see after such a long time.

(Round 2) Has begun.

Veren, who stood before her, squinted his eyes before turning towards the door.

"Wait....! Brother." Vousenne grew agitated, spouting whatever that came to her mind.

She was shocked to see Veren reacting differently to her for the first time. He seemed like he heard something he shouldn't have ever heard.

"You... don't ever call me that...Veren is alright." Veren held his chest, feeling his heart beating violently.

'She is not Laila...calm down.' Veren had tried to train his mentality in the first round, ignoring everything else.

Vousenne on the other hand began to feel more and more agitated.

'What just happened....? Did I come back after my death? Does that mean it's all over...?' She couldn't make any solid decision yet.

However, she knew one thing. She had to stop and talk to Veren or this might again be the last time they meet.

Veren instantly vanished from before her.

"..." There was no way she could follow him with her body.
