"Where am I and what's that smell?"

Confused and unable to see anything, Karl begins to squirm with a horrible smell surrounding him, making the situation even more unpleasant. He reaches his hands up and feels something solid, starting to push it as he tries to stand up.

After lifting the lid, which he discovers to be from a dumpster, he quickly jumps out and begins to breathe, feeling a great relief. Then, looking around, he realizes he's in a dark alley.

"What the hell! One minute I'm in my bed and the next I wake up in a dark alley with these rags and reeking like a beggar."

[Ding!]

[Congratulations, host, on acquiring your first title: Beggar]

[Title effects: +30% fatigue reduction]

[Ding!]

[Due to this marvelous achievement, the title will gain an additional +10% in the possessed attribute]

"Well, that's something!"

It would be an understatement to say that Karl was confused by all this. First, waking up in a dumpster, and now this holographic panel, which definitely has a terrible sense of humor.

Karl might not be the smartest person in the world, but he quickly connected the dots and became even more worried.

"Okay, okay, first I wake up in a dumpster, and now this panel appeared... Damn, I've been transmigrated!"

"But to where?"

Karl shivers at the possible worlds, like Evangelion or Madoka Magica, which would be very dangerous.

"I hope at least it's the DC universe, I really want to meet Supergirl and Wonder Woman."

"Now, onto the main thing..."

"System."

[Ding!]

[Hello, host! Welcome to one of the infinite worlds of Marvel! You were chosen among several individuals, but you were the only one who fulfilled the requirements to be the host we were looking for! We expect great things from you!]

"Marvel..."

Not that Karl was complaining, as he wouldn't change anything, but even being an average Marvel fan, he knew that in this multiverse, there were many distorted and corrupted worlds. The fear of having fallen into one...

Taking a deep breath and trying to stay calm, he murmurs "Status."

Karl is surprised to be a mutant, but confused about being "sealed." On the other hand, he's angry about the lowly nickname; the system really has a terrible sense of humor.

"All right, let's leave the details for later. Now, the important thing is to find a safe place."

[Ding!]

[The mission has been accepted]

"The only certainties of life, huh? A beautiful philosophy."

[Thank you, host]

Breathing deeply, Karl begins to walk out of the dark alley. When he exits, his appearance is revealed: a young man with beautiful black hair, pale skin, gray eyes, and a well-sculpted face, but his clothes can be described as rags.

"Besides being in these dirty clothes, I'm reeking like hell."

While Karl sniffs himself, someone approaches, but he doesn't notice due to his concentration on the rose-scented perfume.

"!?!?!?"

"???"

Karl doesn't understand what the person is saying, but he knows it's English. He doesn't speak English, simply because of his lack of interest in learning the language, and now he regrets not listening to his mother... But a light, or rather, a message, gives him hope.

[Ding!]

[Due to the circumstances and the lack of interest of the host, the system has provided the "Master of Words" ability so that the individual in question does not suffer from his own lack of knowledge]

[Description: Self-explanatory]

"Young man, are you okay?"

Taking a better look at the person, an elderly man in his sixties, dressed in a simple coat and a crocheted scarf wrapped around his neck, as well as brown pants and black shoes, Karl rubs his head and feels a little embarrassed.

"I'm fine, sir, just a bit dirty."

"My boy, you shouldn't be walking around these streets at this hour; it's very dangerous, with all these superhumans spread throughout the city."

"It's just that I don't have a home, sir, so it's inevitable that I wander around at these times."

After hearing this, the old man raises his hand to his chin, with a thoughtful expression, and seconds later, he raises his face and speaks.

"Could you tell me your name, my boy? My name is Mark, Mark Daniels."

As he speaks, he extends his hand in

"I'm Karl, Karl Kaiser."

Finishing the greetings, Mark asked Karl to follow him, and after half an hour of walking, they arrived in front of a house located in a housing complex.

"This is my house, I hope you feel comfortable."

"Thank you very much, I don't know what I would do without your help."

"Don't thank me, thank my wife. She always used to say that kindness begets kindness, so I always try to pass on that teaching."

"She must be very beloved by people."

"Yes, she is, but she went on a trip to visit her sister, so the house feels a bit empty."

Finishing speaking, Mark led the way, and when they entered the house, Karl felt a comforting sensation.

"It's nothing special, but it's cozy."

"I have no complaints."

"Yes, listen, going up the stairs to the right is the bedroom, and to the left is the bathroom."

"Hmm."

"That was my son's old room, so there should be clothes that fit you. After you freshen up, come back to eat something."

Nodding, Karl starts heading towards the bathroom. He takes off his clothes, enters the shower box, and while he takes the most pleasurable shower of his life, he remembers something.

"System, why is my mutant gene sealed?"

[Ding!]

[Don't worry, host. The system will provide you with an ideal mutation for your situation. All the host needs is patience.]

"Alright, now give me the description of all my titles."

[Ding!]

[Transmigrated: You were brought into a fictional world along with the knowledge of existence. But, for your protection and that of all knowledge of this multiverse, because of this, all this information was integrated into a deep compartment in your mind.]

[Variant: You are an error, something that should not have happened or existed, an error that should be corrected, but thanks to some mysterious force, you are protected from the hands of the TVA.]

[Paradox: No birth, no death. You simply exist due to your origin or lack of origin. Cosmic entities tend to find you more interesting.]

[Beggar: A joke-like help, +40% fatigue reduction.]

'And I thought my jokes were bad.'

Rolling his eyes, Karl focuses on his shower. A few minutes later, Karl leaves the bathroom and goes to the room ahead, where he enters and realizes that the room is well kept.

A few more minutes later, Karl starts descending the stairs and goes towards the dining room. Arriving, Karl sits in a chair and puts his hands on the table while he waits for Mark to arrive.

"Here you go, kid, my famous homemade sandwich."

"Thank you."

After handing the sandwich plate to Karl, Mark waits a few minutes before starting to ask questions to find out the boy's situation.

"Thank you, it was very good."

"You're welcome, but now I need you to answer some questions for me."

* Nod *

"So, how did you end up on the streets?"

'How do I answer that?'

"Come on, Karl, I need to know so I can help you."

'Think, Karl, think!'

"..."

"Actually… I lost my memories…"

"..."

"One day, I just woke up with the only important memories being my name, and since then, I've been wandering the streets looking for food, trying my best to survive."

"I'm sorry, son, but don't worry, I'll help you from now on."

"Seriously?!"

"Yes, the first thing we should do is go to the police station tomorrow to maybe find out if you are still wanted."

' I'm sorry, Mark, but it's inevitable that I have to lie.'

After discussing a few more things, Mark says it's late and goes to his room to sleep and suggests that Karl do the same.

When Karl enters the room, he goes straight to the notebook he just noticed was on the bedside table. After plugging it in and settling into bed, he starts researching.

'Let's use key names.'

Having said that, he writes Spider-man. But what appeared was not Spider-man, but Spider-woman. This version was relatively new, as it had only been three years since her debut as a superheroine. Her most relevant villains were the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and the newest one was Sandman, along with a few other pieces of information. Karl concluded that this Spider-Woman was the female version of Tobey Maguire's movies.

After researching information related to superheroes, more news appeared, such as two green monsters fighting and destroying a city or a certain event in New Mexico, and also the great battle that Tony Stark had against the self-proclaimed Whiplash. All this and more indicated that this version of the future Avengers would be from the MCU, which gave a certain relief, as the scale of power of the future enemies would not be as great as in the comics.

'So I'm in a crossover universe, which can be somewhat worrying.'

After this brief thought, Karl once again goes to the search bar and types mutant.

Apparently, mutants still face prejudice, but it decreased after a group of mutants calling themselves the X-Men saved the President of the United States from an assassination attempt by another group called the Brotherhood of Mutants. Basically, these were the only pieces of information related to them.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations on completing the mission: Strange Times and Places.]

[Ding!]

[New skill (status analysis) granted and subspace inventory.]

Karl didn't have time to celebrate his achievement when a strong drowsiness fell upon him, causing him to fall asleep quickly.

Moments after Karl fell asleep, the door of the room opened, revealing the same old man but now with a cruel smile on his face. Then he takes out his phone and starts making a call.

"Hello, Mr. Carlton, I've got more material to use in your research."

"Great, bring it immediately, but don't forget that this is the tenth guinea pig you've taken, and I expect this one to have some potential because if not, your dear wife will be used as a guinea pig, understood?"

"Yes, sir."

*Hangs up*

"I'm sorry, kid, it's either you or my wife. I hope you survive for your sake and hers."
