Combat Genius, Sect Entrance Examination 3

After waiting for thirty minutes, an elder Varian had never seen before appears alongside a disciple.

The elder looked middle aged and sported a thick beard on his face. He was rather tall in stature, he wore blue robes with white details at the end of his sleeves whilst having a sword hanging to his side.

He arrived at the stage and looked the cloaked young man up and down and suddenly a big smile played upon his face.

"HAHAHA! My Misty Peak Sect must have gotten heavens favour. For such a genius to appear here is our greatest blessing!"

"..."

The elder walked towards the young man and stood just a few feet from him and asked, "What is your name boy?"

"..."

After a minute of silence and everyone in the crowd cold sweating with the exception of Varian, the young man finally opened his mouth to speak.

"Jian... Jie Jian"

Despite the time it took for him to answer, the elder nodded with approval before saying, " After the examination is over I would like to take you as my disciple, do you accept?"

No one was surprised to hear this offer since, there was no other reason for an elder to personally make a move except for when they recruited a disciple. The crowd however was filled with envy as the elder that was standing in front of them currently was locally known as the strongest swordsman in the little region they live.

Wan Tangjian

The swordsman who made a name for himself purely with his sword skills despite not being a sword cultivator himself.

After Jie Jian's turn it was finally time for Varian to go up and test himself. He rested his hand on the red orb and seventeen lights lit up. Afterward he went to the while orb with a somewhat nervous feeling however that quickly disappeared the moment it surfaced.

Placing his hand on the white orb and waiting for a minute the orb never even glowed so much as a hint of light. A few seconds later the Qi that had always been following him flower into the tip of his fingers and entered the orb. The orb started to glow a light yellow color then disappeared shortly after.

The surrounding people started to laugh haughtily at Varian. If there was something that other humans liked to see the most it was the failure of another. No matter what world you came from, as long as you were human it was deeply rooted in your DNA that you would find joy in another person's downfall and misery.

The young man and woman Varian met before stood infront of the platform with wide smiles on both their faces. Even though they were not the most talented in the crowd, they still wouldn't miss the chance to kick another when they were down.

As Varian walked down the stairs he could see them sneering at him. He could already see what was going to happen next just based on their faces. He had read so many novels about martial arts and cultivation that it has been basically been determined what actions certain people would do based solely on their facial expressions. He just walked pass them with the same indifferent face he had since the start of the examination.

After getting the 256 people to test their ages and potential, the disciples in charge of the test came back onto the stage and said, " The remaining 256 if you will gather here tomorrow for the final exam the Combat Assessment test, this will help us to gauge your combat ability and will also determine what rank of disciple you would get to be in the Outer Court. I advise you all to get some rest for the rest of the day and come back tomorrow."

After saying that the disciple turned and left while the crowd scrambled to leave and prepare for tomorrow. Varian went straight home and immediately went to sleep. He couldn't do anything else as he had tried once again to cultivate but it only left him disappointed. He couldn't increase his strength anymore for the time being.

The following day, Varian and everyone else gathered at the same spot they were the previous day waiting for the assessment to start. Each one if them were told to pick out a piece of paper from a jar with a number on it. Varian got the number 47 and was surprisingly matched with the young man from the other day that tried to cause trouble.

After everyone got a number the disciple explained the simple rules of the assessment. They were:

1. Each person with a matching number will go onto the platform and have a duel.

2. Normal weapons are allowed and are provided for use before entering the stage.

3. Killing is not allowed and anyone guilty of intentionally killing another will be penalized.

4. Victory is decided when one party is rendered unable to continue, admits defeat or is thrown off the platform.

The rules were simple to understand.

[ I don't need to win I just have to get high enough to walk freely from now on.] That was the thought Varian had after hearing the rules. He was feeling like a cooped up chicken from living in the mountain in a shack unable to leave.

The assessment progressed quickly and by the time he knew it it was his turn to fight.

He went up on the platform and saw the young man from before waiting for him with a mocking smirk.

" Hahaha.... Little body Quenching trash, you have scraped through the tests so far but now it's the end of the line for you. I, Lin Chao, promise that if you get on your knees and beg I will not cripple you." While saying this the young woman accompanying Lin Chao had a wide grin on her face.

Soon the disciple started the match.

"Hehehe, get ready to be-"

CRACK!

Before he even finished speaking Varian was already infront of him, he was kicked in his liver and punched on the left side of his torso making a loud cracking sound. A second later he fell unconsciously to the floor.

The fight ended with him not even able to do anything.
