Chapter 22 – Train Heist (Part two)

Silk scrambled to his feet to find a mess of a room. Phoenix was standing without a speck of dust as she had teleported. The room had countless oddities scattered across the floor from metal to bone and even materials Silk didn't recognise. Glass was also strewn across the floor.

"Phoenix, you will have to create the spell so you can pick what to use as an anchor," Silk nodded at her while saying this.

Phoenix picked up a gun. "What about this?"

Silk froze, he did not expect to see one of those here. "Not that," he shot. "Anything but that," he sighed, it brought back too many painful memories for Silk.

"If you are sure," Phoenix sneered throwing it out the hole in the carriage.

"Stop messing with him and pick something," Crusher snapped.

Phoenix snorted annoyed at him for butting in. She quickly picked up a grotesque skull from the floor. "This will do," Phoenix smiled.

Before Silk could argue against it Crusher cut in saying, "it will do."

Both Phoenix and Crusher started moving to the front of the carriage, Silk did his best to keep up with them. Crusher burst the carriage door and smashed into the next carriage like a cannonball. Phoenix floated swiftly after him while comparatively Silk lumbered after them clumsily.

This carriage was similar with different displays which were still standing, everything looked sophisticated and had an aura of power but Silk could tell with a glance that while the enchantments were powerful, they required a lot of magical power to use which was not useful for Silk.

After what seemed like an eternity of going through carriages they reached the engine room. There were two golems shovelling coal into the engine and they did not take notice of the intruders, they were not programmed to.

The three of the undid all the carriages behind them so there would be less to travel through dimensions and most importantly conserve as much magical energy as possible.

"Are you ready for this?" Silk asked Phoenix.

"Of course," She replied coldly.

"Hurry then," Crusher muttered under his breath impatiently.

Phoenix held the mutated and weird skull up and started chanting in a language which Silk could not understand. Magical energy circulated and pulsed around her like an horrendous whirlpool.

Phoenix eyes suddenly changed into a crimson red colour. "Brace yourselves," she shouted warning. The magic around her burst forth pushing Silk against a wall.

The train suddenly felt like it was falling, Silk activated an enchantment to wrap himself in condensed air to protect himself, the air crumpled to support him as he collided.

Silk scrambled to his feet disorientated and started searching for an exit. He carefully skirted past the glass carefully so to not injure himself and made his way out a window. Phoenix and Crusher were waiting outside for him, Crusher was picking out a piece of glass from his arm.

While he was rushing over to the two of them the train behind him exploded.

"So pretty," Silk gasped watching the flames pour out from where he just was.

"Our escape vehicle is gone," Phoenix cursed loudly

Crusher scratched his head and being the practical man, he came up with a new plan, "We should all split up to find the nearest city, meet back here when it gets dark."

Silk smiled. "You always have a plan," he commented.

"Have you got a better plan or are you just being a pain," Crusher retorted.

"I'll do as you asked," Phoenix floated away int the trees of the surrounding forest.

"I don't have a better idea," Silk said trudging into the forest. It was unlikely there would be something that he wouldn't be able to deal with in this world, he had escaped from a god's prison. Wile he may not have had to directly fight the god he still had to escape from a place they devised to hold legends.

The ground of the forest was similar to Earth and only minor physical differences could be seen such as leaves being purple. Silk did not want to eat any of the weird fruit as he didn't know if it was poisonous because after all it was a different world so evolution could have taken a slight difference. An apple like thing might be poisonous.

There was a suddenly a bright light and he burst out into a plain of light purple grass, green flowers popped up every now and then. Suddenly twenty men in crimson red robes appeared in the sky.

"Stranger, leave now or get ready to feel the wrath of the Imperial school of magic." A voice was projected from the group of red robed people.

"Teleportation magic," Silk grinned. "That is some kick ass space magic."

"Leave now, you won't have a second warning."

"I am lost so would you please point me in the direction of the nearest city." Silk shouted asking the question hopefully.

The red robed magician ignored Silk and started chanting. Silk wasn't worried because during the time with the gods he had honed his fighting abilities and suit with the legends of the demon army. He wouldn't show it off against the gods in case they improved security.

He stood there waiting as they finished the chanting and multiple different spells were hurled in Silk's direction. Staying calm, he stayed low to the ground and sprinted underneath the spells.

"He must be a skilled warrior," One of the robes announced.

To prove this point Silk started running up int the air by condensing air particles to a solid state which in itself took a lot of energy but this was nothing to the improved suit.

One punch is all it took to knock a mage from the air to the ground, he followed the mage. Picking up the wrist he checked to see the mages pulse, he was still alive.

A group of mages gathered and started chanting together. A giant flaming east rose above their heads and attacked Silk. He shook his head and activated an enchantment ad with a thought the air in front of the flaming beast was moved to leave nothing. The flames evaporated into thin air as there was no air to fuel the fire because of the wall of nothing.

The mages were disappointed by this result so more gathered and started chanting but Silk just took the air away from around their heads, the sound couldn't travel because of this and they couldn't breathe so after a while they started dropping out from the air like flies, he made sure it wasn't at the stage that the victims would die.

Silk wasn't at all impressed with the fight that these mages had put up. He started to check the pulses of the mages to make sure that he hadn't made any miscalculation.

"What do we have here?" A sweet voice asked from behind Silk. He jumped forward frightfully to create distance by this unknown being. He turned to see an old woman in robes similar to the ones that the mages he had knocked out were like but with a bit more decoration to show she was more important.

"What do you want?" He answered with another question while mentally preparing for an attack by preparing to use a variety of enchantments.

"I want to know why you attacked my pupils and if you want to be my pupil." The old woman said honestly.

Silk scoffed, "why do you think you have the qualifications to teach me if all your pupils are like this?" He arrogantly kicked a knocked-out body, this was to provoke the woman so they could to the fighting quickly and he could get out of there

The old woman quickly appeared in front of Silk. He quickly jumped backwards to create distance.

The old woman realised that this would only continue taking her course of action. She started chanting some weird words and the space began to contort around her.

"Gravity," he spat.

"I learnt this from observing the universe, it's my life's work."

"Don't make me laugh," Silk tried to stop his sniggering. He had not made an enchantment which interfered with fundamental forces directly, if his suit was taken from him he would be handing over too much power.

Knowing he had to retaliate or the gravity would pull him apart he poured magic into his strength enhancements which let him break out of gravities hold, Silk then punched the now very surprised mage.

Wanting to rush over to give the mage a beating and to more importantly test his suit to the limit he was surprised to see the mage prostrating herself in front of him.

"Why the sudden change in attitude?" Silk hissed.

The woman mumbled under her breath in response.

"Louder," he said in a warning voice while moving closer.

The woman muttered something else.

"I said louder," he barked while storming over to her.

This time Silk did hear the old woman mutter, "sucker."

Suddenly a fire ball flew at Silk's head. He couldn't dodge in time.

Silk screamed in a hideous voice. He jumped backwards and rolled on the ground extinguishing the flames but not in time for the flames to thoroughly burn his exposed skin with exception of the crystal part.

"You should have never thought you could fight me, the grand mage." The old woman declared triumphantly.

Silk picked himself up and glared at her painfully.

"What can you do know?" The woman revelled in his loss.

He tilted his head creating a loud cracking sound ensued. He grabbed his head and tore the skin slowly as the pain was great. It wasn't long until Silk had brand new skin underneath the burnt remnants. The crystal part came out with it but there was still scarring with the burns, this would come out in a few more sheds.

The woman started backing away in horror. "What are you?" She stuttered.

"Does that matter," he said grimacing in the pain he had just experienced. He walked over to her.

"Get away!" The old woman shouted. "Get away, you monster!"

Silk flinched. He sighed realising he hadn't been very gentlemanly recently, he had turned to violence too quickly, old habits die hard. "Can I ask if you know of a place I could stay overnight nearby?" He asked with the nicest voice he could muster for the women who tried to kill him.

A mischievous glint suddenly danced in her eyes. "Yes, and I would be happy to tell you," she said smiling.
