39 Chapter 039

"Dear Alvin. I am so glad to hear from you again. And let me express my congratulations that you have become a part of the amazing world of the Extraordinary, and also express my envy and regret that I am not a part of it. I am dying to know more about the fantastic world behind the curtains.

Regarding your father's incident, just like in the previous letter, I regret to inform you that there is no new information. And as per your request, I did not try to proactively investigate.

And I am pleased that you are finally visiting Backlund. This is the best place in Loen for nobility, regardless if they are flourishing or in decline. I recommend you find a place to stay here, so that we can be in touch more frequently. I am dying to know about the Beyonder powers you have, and seeing them for myself.

Do let me know when you arrive in Backlund. And also, keep an eye out for anything that can make this dear friend of yours also a Beyonder.

And finally, I am aware of what struggles you will face after you arrive in Backlund. I wish to assure you that you have my absolute support in what is to come.

Your friend, Bradford Glaint."

Alvin read through the letter, and tossed it to the side. He then took out a paper and began penning a reply.

"Dear Bradford. Thank you for your good wishes. It is indeed an amazing thing to have become a Beyonder, despite its negative consequences. I do have some means of allowing others to also become Beyonders, but it may not be suitable for you. I will explain in detail when we do meet

Regarding the situation with my family, I believe that I have the power to conduct preliminary investigations now. I have already started preparing for my move to Backlund. Perhaps by the time you receive this letter, I will have arrived in Backlund. I will inform you of my arrival using the same method we used to use when we were kids.

I am also eager to show you my Beyonder powers, and will do my best so that you can one day do the same.

Your friend, Alvin Hans."

He then sealed it, and handed it over to Frank saying, "Go and have the appropriate stamps and seals put on it, and put it among the regular rounds a week later"

Frank nodded, and left with the letter.

Seeing that it was almost afternoon, Alvin decided to go to Saint Samuel Cathedral and meet Soest.

Alvin was sitting on a bench just outside the Cathedral, feeding pigeons. In the letter by Soest, he was asked to sit there during a specific time, and that Gordon would come to him. Alvin figured he would use a spirit to put him to sleep and remotely enter his dreams.

Suddenly, a particular spot on his shoe had a pink flower pattern that it did not have before.

Alvin smiled, because the appearance of the pattern meant that he was in a dream. Since he could stay sober in his dream, he figured he could manipulate it slightly. He kept imagining the pattern before, figuring the pattern would manifest as soon as he was pulled into the dream.

Sure enough, he saw a figure walking from in front of him and sitting down next to him, whom he identified as Gordon.

"Good afternoon" greeted Alvin.

Gordon nodded, and said, "Good job on the mission. You did not leave behind any physical clue connecting it to us, and the Church wiped out traces from the spiritual world"

Alvin nodded. Soest went on to say, "Naturally, the church will reward you for both the competition of the mission, and the weapon you contributed"

"The weapon was the main target of the mission wasn't it?" asked Alvin. He had such a feeling ever since Sinsest advised him to give up the weapon, and told him it belonged to a demigod who is likely to still have a connection with it.

"You are sharp. Indeed, a mere Sequence 7 is not worth risking a conflict between churches if it was exposed. A connection to a demigod on the other hand is much more valuable. We suspected that he was bait trying to hook the demigod we had there. This was confirmed when 2 demigods from the Church of Combat emerged shortly after you killed him" said Gordon.

"Good thing I cut off my trip a little early huh?" said Alvin a little unhappily.

"Actually, they never would have found you if you didn't foolishly expose yourself when if you stayed there. The demigod stationed there is the best at anti-divination" said Gordon.

"In any case, there should be a big reward waiting for me for the successful completion of the mission?" asked Alvin.

"Of course. You can take a payment in the form of pounds, formulas, ingredients or mystical items. The church does have the formula for Provoker and Pyromaniac, which are Sequence 8 and 7 for the Hunter Pathway" said Gordon.

"What are the items available?" asked Alvin.

"Oh? Looks like you have at least the Provoker formula. Or else you would definitely ask for that first" said Gordon.

"Didn't you tell that it is best to wait for some time before taking the next potion?" asked Alvin.

"Of course. Well never mind that. If it's a musical item you want, you can choose one. Other than some of the more dangerous items with severe side effects or negative consequences, there are plenty of them with the church you can choose from" said Gordon handing him a document which he pulled out of thin air.

Alvin looks through the dozens of items with a variety of effects and side effects. Suddenly his eyes stopped on a very interesting item, which he felt would be very useful to him.

"Ear of the Crazed" muttered Alvin. "This is it"
