Chapter 024

The next morning, Alvin walked down alone to the restaurant downstairs. Sure enough, he saw the wretched face of Vincent in the table closes to the stairs.

"Hello my friend! I trust you had a pleasant night?" he asked with a wretched smile on his face.

"More than pleasant. Though I now have a pending headache. I drank more than I should have last night. Talking with you really was nice. I count stop drinking" said Alvin.

"So, did it all go according to plan?" he asked.

"Oh yes. I administered the drug you gave. It was quite effective. She couldn't move or scream. Like you suggested, I took a few photos and scared her into keeping quiet" said Alvin with a wretched expression.

"What was that drug? It was so effective, but I never heard of something like it. My drinking buddies would love to get their hands on some" asked Alvin.

"It's not available to the public. It was specially prepared by a friend of mine. He can make all sorts of magical things like this, but they are highly exclusive. I only give it to you because I see you as my friend" said Vincent.

"Magical? Yes, I heard of people like that. I saw a guy have a small fireball spinning in his palms myself. Most people who saw him thought it was a clever trick, but I don't think so. I think it was magic" said Alvin.

"Oh? Tell me more" said Vincent.

"You can hear all sorts of rumours in the bars of Backlund. Of people flying, catching knives with their bare hands, controlling objects to fly at your opponents, and such other things. Just yesterday I saw a paper plane fly around the bar, unfurl in front of a few people, then fold itself and move to the next person myself" said Alvin excitedly.

"Oh? Where was that?" asked Vincent excitedly.

"A place called Baldwin's Bar. It's just 5 minutes south of here. It's the nearest bar to this inn according to the carriage driver" said Alvin carelessly.

He then made some excuse and took his leave. But once outside, he turned around and climbed back into his room through the window. He changed his clothes, grabbed Null Mask, grabbed some of his tools, and went outside from the window again.

He then kept his distance from Vincent, who was now on the move, and tailed him. He did not seem to have noticed Alvin following him, and leisurely walked across the street. Finally, he walked into an inn just opposite of the one they were staying at.

Alvin slowly trailed after him, being careful to keep his distance to prevent him from getting spotted. Vincent finally entered a room on the third floor of the inn.

Alvin wore the Null Mask, and vaulted out of the window on the third floor. He then crawled carefully across the roof, and went to a room adjacent to the one Vincent was in, which he bhad confirmed was empty via the dust accumulated at the threshold.

He then picked the lock and gained access into the room. He looked through the layout of the room. Assuming that the room Vincent was in was built similar to this one, he looked for a good vantage point. Finally, he decided on the best spot. To the left side of the rooms were the sinks, while at the right side directly opposite was wooden shelves filled with random trinkets. Assuming the other room was the same, if he stood on the sink and drilled a hole in the wall, he would have a view of the room opposite, with his eyes hidden among the trinkets on the shelf.

Alvin pulled out a few tools from his belt, and carefully and silently drilled two holes in the walls. He made one a little bigger for his eyes, and the other a little smaller, into which he inserted a small metal tube. This was another item, like the face mask that his father had gotten from some con men. The metal structure and material could conduct sound excellently, and using two wire-like appendages, they would sound in his ears. And best of all, they would not be detected by most Beyonders, as they seldom were vary of such mortal means.

After completing the task, he peeped through the hole and looked at Vincent. He was alone in the room, but was pacing around, as if waiting for someone.

Alvin maintained the position of peeping through to the room with the sound conducting strings on his ears. He then froze and maintained this position.

According to what he remembered, those of the Assasin Pathway would not have any means of detection besides using tiny, almost invisible spider silk like strands, which should not affect him unless he tried to access the room itself, but Alvin decided to maintain the position just to be sure.

His patience paid off, as after a while, the woman who was with Vincent when they first met entered the room.

"Okay. So what was the reason you made me come her?" she asked impatiently.

"Mistress, I found a Beyonder gathering place. I would like to ask your permission to go check it out" said Vincent while bowing.

"I thought I told you not to contact Beyonders before you reached Sequence 7," said the woman.

"I did not mistress, I heard it from an ordinary person who happened to witness it" replied Vincent.

"So how is the instigation going?" asked the woman.

"Quite well. I instigated the husband we met yesterday to drug and take his sister in law. They need one more push to tear all of them apart. As for the young couple we met today, they are already at each other's throats. I fully expect one of them to be killed by the other. My digestion of the potion is coming along nicely. After I finish that idiot and his family, and maybe another target, the potion will have been suggested" said Vincent excitedly.

"Very well. You seem to be working hard. Hence, I will allow you to attend the Beyonder gathering this once. Let's set off at once" said the woman, as she prepared to leave.

Having heard what he wanted, Alvin expertly plugged in the hole, repacked his tools, and jumped out of the window.

He still had some preparations to do.
