Chapter 169:The monster 'in' the closet

Sighing, Klein adjusted his hat and entered Howes Street.

He could see the Divination Club in the distance and could only sigh.

'There is no rest for the unfortunate...' Klein lamented internally.

With everything that was going on, he couldn't allow himself to relax.

The captain's words still rang in his ears.

Shortly after the Red Gloves left the Blackthorn Security Company, Dunn had called all the members into the room and informed them of what had happened.

<It is likely that the traitorous Archbishop Ince Zangwill is in Tingen City but is not confirmed. The Red Gloves will be looking for his trail during the following weeks.>

<The case of Ince Zangwill is completely out of our control and the ones in charge of it will be the Red Gloves. They will come here to rest every 3 days for about 4 hours, if you have information that can help them, do not hesitate to inform them in that time, otherwise do not bother them with anything.>

<We on the other hand will continue our work as normal.>

'This is ridiculous! I've only been in this world for 1 month and I already have to deal with a church traitor?' Klein lamented for his luck but unable to do anything he could only accept this.

'I have to digest Seer's potion as soon as possible and advance to Clown...' Klein thought decidedly but at that moment he raised his right hand to his mouth and yawned.

Scratching his eye, he could feel his body asking him to rest.

In the last 5 days, he had barely slept 14 hours...

'This time I'll order a black coffee.' Klein thought walking into the club.

...

In the meeting room of the Divination Club.

Sitting in a shady corner, Klein lifted the cup of black coffee to his lips and took a deep sip as he read the Tingen City Newspaper. There weren't many members around him, only five or six.

Seeing the spelling mistake in a job advertisement made a smile form on his face, but he couldn't be too happy because he saw a monocular Glacis entering accompanied by a young lady in her thirties dressed in a blue dress.

The young lady had in her left hand an Intis hat decorated with the feathers of a black swan.

'That hat is ridiculous. Wouldn't her neck be sore for wearing that?' Klein noted.

Klein looked over there and massaged his glabella, relieving his fatigue.

Through his spirit vision, he saw that Glacis and the lady were both healthy, but anxious, angry, and embarrassed.

'I hope you haven't invested everything you had.'

"Good morning Glacis. That Mr. Lanevus wasn't a trustworthy fellow, was he?" Klein asked with a smile, remaining seated.

Glacis had asked him for a divination about an investment opportunity related to a man named Lanevus. Glacis got a negative suggestion.

Glacis had been very indecisive and guided by the colors of his emotions, Klein concluded that the man took the risk.

Glacis froze for a moment, he then gave a bitter smile.

"I truly regret not listening to your divination suggestion. This is the second time I'm saying something like that, let's hope...No, I believe there won't be a third time."

He turned his head and looked at the lady with some wrinkles.

"Madam Christina, look, Mr. Moretti has already guessed our reason for coming here without us speaking. He is the most magical fortune teller I have ever seen. I am more inclined to describe him as a Seer."

"Good afternoon, Mr. Moretti. We have come here precisely because of Lanevus." Christina gave a simple curtsy, clearly anxious and flustered.

"Should we go to Topaz?" Glacis was more collected. He pointed at the meeting room door with his chin.

...

"What do you wish to divine today?" Klein maintained his Seer attitude and asked.

"We want to know if this is salvageable or not." Christina said as she looked at Glacis.

Klein grabbed a piece of paper and a fountain pen.

"Then let's do an astrolabe divination. I'll ask, you'll answer."

Among the questions, Klein marked the Thunderous constellations and the corresponding symbols of various situations before completing the astrolabe.

He had used more elements in his astrolabe than a normal person would have done. This would help him get closer to the truth.

"Madam, Sir, you are now at a crossroad. If you do not restrain yourself and sink into your greed and anxiety, you will only sink further into the abyss, never being able to free yourself. But if you are patient and persistently wait, then there is a chance for you to see sunlight..." Klein said, his tone unhurried.

"I understand..." Christina nodded. She thought for a few moments before asking.

"Mr. Moretti, can you divine the location of Lanevus?"

"No, I don't think so. The information that Lanevus left behind is most likely false, even his name may not be his real one. How can I divine anything?"

"Unless you give me very specific details or an item he carries around with him all the time." Klein answered truly.

Christina fell silent for a moment before moving a 1 soli note towards Klein.

"I have heard from Glacis that you are a true Seer, one who is respectful and fearful of fate and not greedy for money. You can think of the rest as a tip that I am giving to the club."

"Thank you for your trust in me," Klein said with a smile, the corners of his lips twitching slightly.

'Not greedy for money...No miss, I am a very materialistic man!' Klein regretted being a charlatan when he put his price as 8 pence.

Christina didn't say anything else, she just got up and said goodbye, she quickly left the club accompanied by Glacis.

...

"Megose, dear!" Christina called entering her house and looking for her niece.

There was no answer but she could hear how a woman was speaking in the living room and this made her sigh sadly.

Placing her imported Intis hat on the rack next to the door, she gently touched its texture.

'A person as sweet as Lanevus turned out to be a fucking wretch...' she could only curse internally as she let go of the hat that had been a gift from the aforementioned to her.

Lanevus had given expensive gifts to all the family members to thank them for giving him the blessing to date Megose.

She shook those thoughts from her mind and approached the living room where she could see her niece sitting on the sofa.

She had a shiny forehead, long blonde hair, and a pair of large honey eyes.

These large eyes gazed with enormous love at her belly as she caressed it gently.

"That man sounds like an excellent person from the way you talk about him, my baby."

She was then silent for a few seconds before laughing softly.

"Hehe, you say he pranked the Angry Pigeon and made him kiss Plucky Bird? Hehehe"

While Megose laughed while stroking her stomach, Christina was watching this with pain and sadness.

Megose had fallen deeply in love with Lanevus and the way he had abandoned her after getting her pregnant had hurt her a lot.

Her parents are too busy trying to explain to the rest of the family why the wedding won't happen, her grandparents had died 5 years ago and now it was Christina's responsibility to take care of her.

The other members of the family supported her but since they had been conned by Lanevus they couldn't help much.

The only consolation Megose had was to fake conversations with her unborn baby.

So despite being in a rush, Christina decided to give Megose another few minutes.

"I would love to meet this Uncle of yours, is there any way to make that possible?" The blonde asks with a smile.

But after a few seconds, her happy expression turned into one of confusion.

"<Not the time yet>? My baby, what does that mean?"

Megose again fell silent for another few seconds as if she was listening to something.

Her expression became even more confused.

"I don't understand..." she muttered a little dazed.

"Megose, dear, can we talk for a moment?"

Before Megose could ask more, her Aunt spoke to her.

Turning to look at her aunt, Megose smiled sweetly and nodded.

"Of course, Aunt Christina. My baby was just telling me stories about his Uncle~" She said softly as she caressed her tummy lovingly.
