The Tablet

Amanda awoke with a stretch and a yawn. She stole outside without rousing David and started stoking the fire and starting the little camping stove for boiling water. By the time David came out from the tent there were eggs coming out of the pan and freshly brewed coffee waiting for him.

He smiled at his wife "you spoil me"

Her eyes twinkled "don't worry my love, I saved you the dishes"

David groaned extra loud as he stole a kiss and started on the eggs.

Hours passed and finally they rose, shouldered their packs, took out their lights (and knives) and started for the cave entrance.

David shone his light in and carefully tread into the opening, wary of movement. None came however and as they walked further in they weaved slightly through a rough tunnel. Passing strange carvings and murals, some beautiful, some less so. They stooped low at a point where the wall was coming down, and climbed over an intruding set of roots from a giant tree above the cave. They finally came came to a small room, the size of a moderate dining room, which was perfectly carved and didn't fit the pattern behind them at all. At the side across from them was a doorway, to the right and left more figures towered over, guarding...something, and in the middle - a pedestal.

"What's that?" Amanda whispered, not meaning too, the cave seemed to demand respect.

"I'm not sure...there's a tablet on it"

"Well turn it on"

"...." David gave his wife a sideways look as she smirked into her hand "you find the power button"

"Ok I will" she said with a wink and started towards the tablet.

"Careful..."

"David there's no one here, but, I will be" Amanda slowly circled the pedestal and came back beside David to look down at the tablet. On it was writing neither of them had a hope of understanding. They looked up at the doorway "you think we'll ever understand it?"

"...."

"David?"

David motioned for her to look back down, his face froze in either horror or astonishment, she couldn't tell. Then her face froze. The tablet was written in English.
