A Present for You Little Disciple

Jia Li broke into a run as the forms of black mist chased after her. Trying to find a safe spot where she can hide and form a plan, Jia Li turned a corner and ran straight into the yard of one of the houses.

From the sound of it, the things chasing after her are not far behind. Looking around Jia Li spotted a kiln that was dusty and worn out from years of neglect and decisively decided to duck into it. The space was cramped and the dust that had been collecting over the years floated into the air causing Jia Li to cough a little.

Clenched in her hand was the pouch that He Yang had thrown to her before he had locked her inside the barrier. It was a regular pouch not like the kinds with storage abilities so Jia Li could see the sum of the items inside the pouch clearly.

There were a stack of talismans and a small dagger with a silver hilt that was connected to the sheath by fine silver chains.

She has no idea on how to use the talisman but the dagger seems to be useful so Jia Li took it out.

Peeking outside to see the situation, Jia Li suddenly heard a nauseating, high pitched laughter right by her ears.

It hasn't even been half a minute since she hid here. How did it find her so easily? Jia Li's thought trailed to the moment where her Master had tapped her forehead.

He Yang watched Jia Li's every movement from outside the barrier, sitting relaxedly on his sword. Seeing Jia Li flustered, he grins. Hehe, little disciple, it doesn't matter where it is you hide. The evil attracting seal that he had drew on her forehead will assure that the resentment spirits within the barrier will stick on to her like glue. After all, if all his little disciple does is hide then it would defeat the purpose of this trip he had planned.

Jia Li swung her dagger at the mist before running out of the kiln. The dagger had gone right through without any resistance so Jia Li had thought that since its body seems to be made of mist, a dagger wouldn't do any damage to it.

However, when she looked back at it, it was writhing in pain and its form constantly wavering between formless and human.

Jia Li looks at the dagger in her hand. After cutting through the black mist it had begun to ceaselessly vibrate with excitement, it's originally white blade shone with an even purer shade that resembled untainted snow.

Despite the dagger's pure appearance, it excludes a bloodthirsty aura, aching to slash at the black mist again.

Jia Li was glad that the dagger can deal considerable damage to these black mists. It seems that her Master's mission for her wasn't completely unreasonable. She may not be able to kill all of them but surviving for five minutes should no longer be an impossible feat like she had originally thought.

Seeing that more black mists were heading her way, Jia Li began to run to put some distance between them.

He Yang hummed with approval when he saw that Jia Li was no longer flustered but clear-headedly dealing with the situation. For the three days that he was gone, he had been away finding materials to make suitable weapons for his little disciple.

He Yang had worked together with Xi Jin Yu, the Peak Master of the Artifact peak to make an Immortal sword for his little disciple. However, Xi Jin Yu had needed a few more days to complete the sword so with the leftover materials He Yang had Xi Jin Yu made a small dagger.

He has to admit, although Xi Jin Yu's personality was a little weird, there is no doubt that the artifacts he makes are definitely top grade in terms of design and ability.

As someone who believes that plentiful experiences go hand in hand with strength, He Yang has no intention of being gentle in his teaching. The first aim of this trip was to allow his little disciple to gain battle experiences so that she could advance in her cultivation more smoothly. Testing out the dagger had been a secondary objective.

He Yang watched as Jia Li dodges yet resentment spirit before slashing at it. Five minutes was already up.

He Yang sent his immortal sword flying into the barrier and with a resonating piercing cry the sword lodged in the ground, the surrounding resentment spirits were all repelled by its aura alone.

Jia Li watches as all the black mist around her fades away into nothing. Admiration can be seen in her limpid eyes. For the first time, her Master actually seems a little cool.

Undoing the barrier, He Yang retrieved his sword, lightly dusted it and took a good look at his little disciple.

There were a few shallow wounds here and there but nothing too serious. After making sure that there were no life-threatening injuries he gave Jia Li a few pills to swallow before circulating his spiritual energy into her. Although the resentment spirits gathered here were all low-level ones, without a sturdy foundation in cultivation it is easy for mortals to become contaminated by the negative energies. If enough is taken in, it can turn an average person into low-level demons.

Carrying Jia Li, He Yang proceeds to return back to Immortal Range Sect.

During the ride back, Jia Li thought about what she had just experienced, obediently allowing herself to be carried since she was too tired to walk anyway. For some reason that five minutes of running and fighting had tired her out when normally she could run for the entire day without getting tired.

Was it because the black mists were also part of the supernatural existences in this world so it countered her supernatural strength?

Jia Li was still holding the silver dagger in her hand. During the entire battle, it seems to get more powerful and excited every time she uses it to cut through one of the black mists.

"Do you like the dagger? It's a present that I've prepared for you during the times I was absent."

This weapon was for her? Given how exquisitely crafted and powerful it was, Jia Li had thought that this was one her Master's weapon that he was only temporarily lending her.

"This is for me?" Was this what they called the carrot on the stick?

"I had it specially made for you. With something like this, you can at least fend off low level resentment spirits or demons. If you keep on using it it will get more powerful in the future of course."

Really?? It gets more powerful as she uses it? Jia Li was about to smile but suddenly thought of something.

Does this mean.....she turned her head up to look at her Master with a questioning glare.

Seeing his little disciple's unhappy expression, He Yang lets out a laugh and attempted to console her by petting her head. "Yup, you have to repeat what you did today. I will also increase the difficulty as time goes on."

Jia Li weakly let out a string of curses. She really doesn't want to fight those black mists all over again. To comfort herself, she reminded herself that this was for the sake of becoming stronger. Yes... for the sake of becoming stronger she shall endure her Master's sadistic streaks.

Even if he was weird Jia Li fully admits that her Master was hella strong.

That night He Yang prepared a simple medicinal bath for Jia Li and told her to try circulating spiritual energy while she was soaked in the water.

Jia Li blearily followed the instructions and tried sensing the spiritual energy around her. Since she had succeeded in doing it once already, the whole process of sensing and absorbing the spiritual energy went rather smoothly.

As she circulated her the spiritual energy she had absorbed, she felt that her wounds were healing up and even her fatigue wasn't as bad as before. The medicinal properties in the bath seem to work better when she's circulating spiritual energy too.

When she was done with the bath, other than feeling slight tiredness, she felt stronger and more vigorous than ever.

Refreshed, Jia Li dumped the water for the bath out before walking back to her room. Since the weather was cold, the warm medicinal bath she just had felt even better.

In the end, although her Master was tough on her he was still caring enough. Jia Li decided to work even harder so that she wouldn't disappoint her Master.

Since she has officially stepped into the realm of cultivation....there was something that she has been wanting to learn for a while.

When can she finally learn how to fly on a sword??? Learning to fly by herself is definitely first priority...
