Him and I

'Everyone seems to have forgotten about Annie. It's been 1 month but everyone acts like she never existed in the first place. No-one gave me those weird looks anymore, they just walked past me without glancing a look'

Ava walked through the hallways trying to not make herself stand out. She spotted Noah talking with his friends. She stared at him for a few seconds and when Noah turned around to look at her she quickly looked away and walked as fast as possible.

"Ava!" Noah called,

"Wait up!"

Ava didn't listen and kept walking away trying to reach to her next class. Suddenly the bell rang. Ava took the advantaged and entered her class, sitting on her seat.

An hour passed and the lesson was over. Ava was packing her books in her bag. She walked out of the classroom just to be met by a tall dirty-blonde haired guy stood at the side of the door.

"Ava!" he exclaimed.

"What do you want Noah?"

Ava tried avoiding all eye contact with him.

"Are you angry at me? Please tell me what I've done."

Ava began walking away from him hoping he wouldn't follow.

"Ava, please? Tell me what I've done wrong. You can't just walk away from me forever!"

Ava kept walking away leaving Noah behind. All-day she could see Noah looking at her and when she looked back, he will quickly look somewhere else. Ava rushed home not wanting to think of the previous events.

She reached home to find the house empty and silent. She threw her bag on the sofa and rushed to her room.

'I wish I could see Brooke now. I really need someone to talk too. I should have never ignored Noah like that. But I can't betray Annie like that. She's my best friend.'

Ava laid on the bed staring at her ceiling remembering all the memories that she and Annie had. By the time she knew it, she heard her mom's and brother's voices. She quickly checked the time to see how long she's been there, just to see a few hours had gone by. It was 10 o'clock and she didn't want to speak with any of them, so she got some joggers and a cute shirt, closed her door and jumped out the window. She walked towards the park and sat down on her special swing next to the swing Annie was supposed to sit in. She looked around the park smiling at all the memories they had together hear.

"Hey." a voice said.

Ava quickly turned around to see Noah standing next to her in front of the second swing.

"How did you know I would be here?" Ava asked.

"Well, today didn't seem like such a great day for the both of us. And the other time you said that you came here to think so I figured you came here."

"I thought it was obvious that I didn't want to see or talk to you."

Ava looked at him dead in the eyes.

"Did I do something wrong?"

"Yes, and you should know by now."

Ava looked away from him. Noah quickly sat down on the swing next to Ava and looked at her.

"Please tell me what I did. Please?"

"Did you forget about Annie?"

"No of course not. She's my friend and will always be. Why do you ask?"

"Because everyone seems to have forgotten about her, and their acting like nothing ever happened."

"Ava, you know this isn't any different to how they reacted when all those other girls died."

"They didn't die neither did Annie. They are still alive. I know it because I feel it. Annie is alive."

"You have to calm down. Ava... they saw the body. What other explanation could there be."

"It's fake. This is all fake. She is alive. She has to be. She couldn't have left me alone in this world. All by myself."

"You're not alone. I'm here for you. I'm sorry if I made you worry."

Ava stared at his eyes. They were glistening underneath the bright moonlight.

"Ava? Are you ok?"

"Oh! Yeah sorry..." Ava said a little blush forming on her face.

"But Ava,"

"Yeah?"

"You already know how this town is... people mysteriously die, and no-one investigates or anything. And in a month, everyone has forgotten about that person."

"I know. But I never knew what that felt like until now."

"Remember Sophie?" Noah asked

"The girl really quiet girl at school?"

"Yea,"

"She died as well didn't she? No one knows what happened to her."

"Her parents moved away saying this was a 'wicked town' and how they didn't open an investigation for her."

"The same thing happened to all the other girls and Annie."

"Yea..."

Noah and Ava sat on the swings in silence.

"I got an idea!"

Noah looked at Ava confused.

"What if we investigate on our own? If no-one wants to find out what happened, we will." Ava said with a wide smile plastered across her face.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on right there. Do you know how dangerous that will be? Ava, I know you miss Annie, but this is way too dangerous, you shouldn't even be out here at night by yourself. For now, just try on getting better and talking to someone about it."

"But I am talking to someone, my psychologist. All I need is to know what happened to Annie."

"That's great Ava but try asking Annie's mum to ask the police to open up an investigation. We don't know how dangerous the person whose doing all these things is."

"I guess you're right," Ava said looking down, her eyes filled to the brim with tears.

"I'm sorry Ava, but it's just too dangerous. Does your mom know you're here?"

Ava shook her head.

"She must be worried about you then. Come on, I'll walk you home."

They both got up and walked out of the park. Suddenly Noah stopped.

"Ava... I'm doing this because I don't want the same thing that happened to Annie to happen to you. You have to understand."

"I do. It was a stupid idea anyway," Ava quietly said.

"It wasn't a stupid idea. I get it, you want to find out what happened to Annie. But not right now, okay?"

Ava nodded. They continued walking until they reached the front of Ava's house. Noah stopped at the bottom of the steps as Ava began walking up towards the door.

"I'll see you tomorrow?" Noah asked.

Ava turned around and gave him a small smile. She went up the stairs and went inside her house. Noah happily put his hands in his pockets and went home with a bright smile on his face.
