News [Late 2024] (experiment, maybe-probably subject to change)

Northumbria, the youngest country in the World. [September 19 of 2024]

The 2024 referendum for the Independence of Northumbria, held on September 18, has given its results.

To the questions: "Should Northumbria be an independent country?" and "Should [____] be part of an independent Northumbria?", 63% to 75% of the referendum participants (94% of the population eligible to vote), have answered "Yes".

After 80 years of fighting for independence, the Northern Party ("Northumbria Group") has achieved independence for the regions of: Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside, Tyne and Wear, Greater Manchester, County Durham, Northumberland and Cheshire.

The referendum in the borough of High Peak (northern Derbyshire), has resulted in a majority in favor of "No", being the only region of the referendum that does not join the new country of Northumbria.

In York, people celebrate on the streets after the sucess of the second independence referendum (one decade later after the 2014 referendum).

Meanwhile, after signing the interim constitution of Northumbria, the General Secretary of the new Communist Party of Northumbria (CPN), Philip Proudfoot, meets with the Chairman Jeremy Bernard Corbyn, to sign the recognition of the new British country and formal relations.

For now Northumbria has announced its intentions to join the European Socialist Union, but the North's independence has dealt a heavy blow to continental Europeans and Zimmerwald's response is so far, sketchy.

Some fear that the success of Northumbria's independence referendum will prompt the secession of more republics in Western Europe...
