1 Into The Fire

So the world has gone to hell in every meaning of the word. There were now these beings that haunt all the major cities in America. It didn't feel like it was planet earth anymore. It felt like they had been teleported to another planet or something. That did sound a little crazy. What was even more crazier was Chicago, Illinois looking like a ghost town. It didn't seem like there was anyone around, he hasn't seen any humans or any people like him. Well, he was a humanoid duck. Of course there weren't going to be many people like him. He still didn't know how he got here or even why he was here. This was going to be rather interesting.

He was standing outside of a run down sports goods store. The windows had been busted out and the door was off of its hinges and it was swaying back and forth. All the good stuff was probably gone. He was just looking for something to defend himself. He watched the door swing back and forth. He grabbed the door and ripped it off of its hinges. Not like there was anything in there to protect anyways. He shook his head. "This is going to be a long night, I can feel it." With that he walked into the store, it was pitch black. He ran his hand along the wall to find a light switch. He found it and flipped it on. The lights began to flicker. It reminded him of a bad horror movie. They gave him enough light so he could find a shotgun and a box of shells. He picked them up.

He smiled. "Guess these will do." He ventured back outside and then ducked into the alley. He felt like he was being watched. In the alley he found an backpack. He loaded two shells into the shotgun and then stuffed the box of shotgun shells into his backpack and he then put the backpack on. Now he had to find some food, that might be trickier. Now he didn't know where his family was, he didn't know if he had any family to be honest. He noticed a fire escape ladder by a dumpster and he decided he was going to climb and it and he did, he was now on the roof tops and it overlooked a part of the city.

His name was Damian Mallard, well, he thought it was anyways and he blinked as he looked over the city. This is what a super hero might feel like, surveying the land and making sure bad guys get put in their place. He was no super hero, he was just here to survive. His stomach growled. He needed to find something to eat fast. He thought he heard something growl loudly and it wasn't his stomach. He spun around fast and there was nothing. Could it have been a spirit or was he just losing his mind? He was ready to destroy some monsters if he had to.

Now the main thing he needed to do was to fine food. Now with the city pretty much dead, would there still be food in the grocery stores? There would only be one way to find out. He saw some grocery stores on the otherside of town. It was only a few blocks from where he was currently. He didn't want to travel on the ground. Whatever scared people to leave this town might be on the ground and he felt that the high ground might be a little safer for him. He felt like something was watching him. He couldn't shake that feeling right now and that was important to him anyways. Whatever was watching him could continue to watch him for all he cares. So it looks like he was going to pretend he was a super hero and start jumping from roof to roof. You know, one of two things could happen. He could safely land on the other side or plummet to his death.

Damian blinked. "Guess its now or never." He backed up a few feet so he could get a running start. He ran as fast as he could his feet touched the edge of the roof top before he jumped and landed safely on the other roof top. His heart was beating one hundred miles a minute, well, that is what it felt like. It was the adrenaline in his body and he had to do this a few more times. He jumped from roof-top-to-rooftop until he got where he needed to go. He was still on the rooftops, but now he was by a grocery store and now he could rest for a minute or two. That had taken a lot out of him.

He sat on the ledge of the rooftop and he swore he could hear someone or something crying. It was a sad crying, like someone had lost a loved one or a pet. He kept his guard up about this. This crying could be a way to lure him out into the open and kill him. He sat on the edge of the rooftop and continued to listen to the crying. It was tugging on his heart strings. What should he do? What he was about to do was going up against his better judgement. He was supposed to be out for himself and that's it.

The alley below him didn't look that far down and he didn't see a fire escape nearby. How was he going to get down there? Guess he could try to slide down the wall. You know like Megaman in one of those Nintendo games. He stood up on the ledge of the building and jumped. His hands and feet were gripped on the wall as he slide down it. It hurt, he didn't plan on doing this again. A few seconds later he was on the ground, he could still hear the crying. He didn't see anyone though.
