Ch 14

A month quickly went by, and at this time, all the children have stabilized their cultivation realm. They are now a true Foundation stage expert.

Adel walked to the elevated platform which was currently surrounded by the crowd. This day was the evaluation exam and happens every two months. During the exam, disciples of the same class would battle each other, and they would be ranked according to their battle prowess.

The one with the highest rank would obtain more resources, those on the lower rank has a single chance to challenge their upper ranked counterpart, whom they have not fought before.

Adel walked to the stage under the stares of the spectators. His first opponent was a talented boy from another village, under normal circumstances, he would be able to reach the top 5. Unfortunately, his first opponent was Adel.

Bao Longwei, seeing that his opponent was the notorious truant, he put on a contemptuous expression and wagged his fingers at Adel.

"Come, I'll finish this quickly." His weapon was a pair of short sticks. Naturally, sharp weapons were not allowed so what is supposed to be a pair of daggers turned into a pair of sticks.

Adel twirled his long stick, a sword, and assumed a stylish pose. This classic duel posture involves placing his hand near his chest with the sword pointing parallel to his body. The result of him having secretly practiced fencing when he was a child was now showing.

Although his preferred style changed from being a cool sword master into an enigmatic spell caster, deeply ingrained habits still remained. He must act cool at all situation and grab every single opportunity for acting cool.

He even flicked his wrist to show the flat side of his sword. If this was a real sword, the light would have glinted in a graceful manner and the impression of the audience would definitely rise up.

"This Fang Ru looks strong!"

"So cool!"

The spectators were dazzled by his display. Even Bao Longwei felt intimidated, he gulped and tried to appear calm.

"You may begin." The person in charge said so in a clear and loud voice.

Adel immediately performed a lunge which caught Bao Longwei off guard. Still, his reaction was fast and was able to block the wooden stick, but he was pushed back and nearly fell down the stage.

"Awesome!"

"Go Fang Ru boy!"

"Damn, beat that truant Longwei!"

The children cheered. Bao Longwei's face turned red from embarrassment. After all what he had spoken, he was nearly defeated in a single strike.

Jian Chen who was lazily picking his nose suddenly narrowed his eyes. He had no interest in such boring child fight, as he was a Sword Saint in the past, but Adel's strike had been too perfect. It wasn't fast nor was it strong, it was just a casual probe, but it never deviated it path and accurately jabbed at the enemy's weak point, causing him to lose his balance.

"Marvelous. I thought this guy doesn't want to learn swordsmanship, looks like he had been practicing secretly."

As though he suddenly remembered something interesting, his eyes searched someone in the crowd and saw Bao Mei who was secretly cheering for Fang Ru. Bao Longwei was her distant relative from the other village, but of course, she thinks that Fang Eu was cooler.

"How amusing." Jian Chen continued observing the fight, no longer as apathetic like before. "This generation's talent are more abundant than I thought. A random village from who knows where could actually produce a Supreme Class spiritual root and a talented swordsman."

Bao Longwei rushed forward to attack, but Adel read his movements. Adel had never lost in any close quarter combat before with opponents of the same stage. It was usually a one sided beating, his opponents would not know south from north and they would begin to doubt life once it was over.

Bao Longwei was indeed talented, but he was still a child.

Adel whacked his side and knocked his forehead with the handle, easily ending the fight.

"Fang Ru wins. He is currently ranked 36 out of the 93." The official spoke.

In fact, the rank 1 and rank 36 are the same, they won one fight. They were just ranked according to the battle order. Ranks were basically meaningless in the first round.

The sky soon darkened and the first part of the competition was soon to end. Bao Mei and Jian Chen, his neighbors, won their fights with ease.

Meanwhile, a meeting was occurring in the inner sect regarding the strange beast rampage in the forest.

"Thunder Palm sect has received an information regarding the Beast Rampage. It seems like some large scale array was set up deep in the forest and caused the mutation."

"Someone dared to scheme against the Seven Great Sects? A mysterious organization?"

"Beast Rampage... How did the Thunder Palm sect get this information?"

"Well, a grievously injured man and his contract beast accidentally discovered the array and provoked a mysterious creature. Fortunately, they were able to escape alive."

"And how powerful was this creature?"

"According to the victims, at least the might of a Core Formation."

"White Lotus sect has requested cooperation among the Seven Great Sects to investigated the matter. We should select a few inner disciple elites to investigate the root of this matter."

The people sitting in the long oval table had diverse age and appearance. Some of them appeared old, and some of them looked young, however, there was a common thing among them, and that was their dreadfully powerful auras. The Qi emanating from their bodies was so dense that it filled the room with a heavy atmosphere.

Even the Core Formation experts guarding the entrance felt unsettled by the meeting of these powerful elders of the Wind and Cloud Sect.

Once the elders finished discussing their course of actions, they returned to their own abodes and only the young man who sat at the most honorable position remained in the room. Although his appearance was merely that of a 20 years old, the wisdom and calmness in his eyes weren't something that belongs to youngster. In fact, he was the Sect Master of the Wind and Cloud Sect who had live for more than two centuries. His name, Yun Feng, was a name passed down from the previous generation of sect masters.

After staring at the empty room, he sighed with burden and leaned on the chair. He is an Earth Immortal, whose power suffice to rule an entire sect, but could not help but feel uneasy upon recalling the ominous dreams he had been having lately.

"Patriarchs, are these your messages?"
