Living in a Yu-Gi-Oh world

After a normal afternoon nap I woke up and found myself in someone else's body. I had a different face...and was apparently in a different world. People had wacky and unnatural hairstyles, the technology was very advanced and giant monster holograms could be seen around. That's right, I woke up in a Yu-Gi-Oh world and that's not all...This body belonged to last year's dueling champion.

Chapter 2

As I got up to begin job hunting Dave spoke to me.

System: Host, don't you want to receive your duel disk and a random deck? I also haven't gotten the chance to explain what I can do.

Dyne: Oh, you're right! It's just that I've been overwhelmed with this whole isekai thing and then the excitement of actually being here made me forget about other stuff. So, what can you do?

System: There are two main functions that matter. First, each time you win a duel you receive points depending on the opponent you faced. Then, after you collect enough points you can use them to either buy random cards or starter decks. The cards have different tiers and each tier has different price. Same thing applies to the starter decks. Right now you don't have enough points for either of those so the function is still locked.

Dyne: That's interesting! I guess I should find a job that allows me to duel people. Professional duelist? I dunno, that's the same thing this guys did. Perhaps I could do that but later on. Hmm... I'll think about that later. Can you give me the rest?

System: Affirmative!

A big holographic roulette appeared before me. Different things were written on each slot with different font styles. Cyber Dragons, Steelswarm, Blue-eyes, U.A., Ancient Gear, Vampires and many more. I gave the command and it started spinning.

"There are a lot of great decks that I could get. I hope it lands on something cool like Red-Eyes or E-Heroes but I guess it's too much to hope for my favourite, the Raid Raptors."

The roulette begun to slow down as I was imagining different outcomes. The slower it got the more nervous I felt. Slower and slower untill eventually, it landed on...

Before I could see where it landed a window popped up in front of me blocking the results.

System: Host, would you like to receive your dueldisk first?

Dyne: What? No, No! I want to see the result! Stop that!

"I swear, Dave is doing it on purpose."

The window in front of me vanished and I saw my new deck. The result was written with red bold letters. Battlin' Boxers

Dyne: Battlin'' Boxers huh? It's not championship material but it's not half bad. Especially for a first deck. Dav- I mean System, can you give me the dueldisk?

Without an answer, a classic Duelist City dueldisk materialized on my hand along with my new deck inside the deck slot. It can split in the middle and then fold for easier portability. The color was light grey with dark blue on the card slots and a red orb in the center where the lifepoints are shown.

System: The functions of this dueldisk is as follows. It has independent power source fueled by the system, it has solid vision function that can be turned on/off, it can be recalled around your arm regardless of distance as long as your arm is free and you can use it to access your bank account. There are a few more function that are presently locked.

Dyne: Wow, talk about handy! Or in this case arm-y? Damn that was bad...

System: Indeed host.

I ignored the comment and continued.

Dyne: So, do I have any money on the bank account?

System: You have but it's safe to say that host needs to find a job.

Dyne: Back to that huh? You know, I think I have an idea about that.

I said with a smirk.

I checked my deck to see what cards I have, and went outside. I asked around for directions, hopped on some public transportation and finally arrived in front of a huge building that dwarfed everything around it. I was covered in glass and outside were parked tens of cars and bikes. On the front side of the building wrote: Domino City Police HQ.

Normally, to work here you have to graduate from an academy and all that stuff but from the knowledge that I got from Dave, I found that there is a specific department that deals with turbo duelists, illegal use of solid vision, aggressive psychic duelists and practically anything that has something to do with duels. To join this department, you have to have a clean file and just pass a dueling test. It's one of the most dangerous police duties since you have to deal with solid vision so the requirements are simple to encourage more people to apply.

I took a deep breath and entered inside. I went to the reception where a beautiful lady around 30 was sitting behind a desk. She had black hair tied to ponytail and wore an office suit.

Receptionist: Hello, how may I help you?

She asked with a smile when I approached.

Dyne: Hi! Um I would like to apply for the test of the duel division.

Receptionist: Of course, just a second.

She typed something on a computer and showed me a circular device to tap my IDD (ID Device).

I did just that and the device downloaded my information. She then looked through the information and gave me a small nod.

Receptionist: It seems you're in luck, there's an examination in half an hour. Would you like to participate then? The next one is in two days from now.

"It was dumb of me to not check the schedule on the internet. Good thing I didn't come here for nothing."

Dyne: Yes, I'll participate in this one, thank you.

A tall man in a black suit came and escorted me to where the test would take place. We arrived at a respectable sized arena where 16 other candidates waited. We were 9 men and 8 women

I wasn't really in a mood to start conversation and besides, I don't even know if any of them will pass this test.

I only had to wait for a few minutes before 17 cops and one high ranking officer came in the field through an elevator. The officer looked old but he was buffed and had an imposing aura around him. Greying hair and a neatly trimmed beard gave him a sharp look. He walked to us and started talking.

Officer: Greetings! It makes me happy that there are always people willing to put their lives on the line to protect this city and its people. But, I have no intention to just send people to their deaths. Those that don't pass should not despair as this is for your own good and those that do pass should not feel complacent as your lives are on the line. Now, let's begin the examination!

He finished and the regular cops came forward.

Officer: Each of you will fight 1 duel. Losing doesn't mean you fail, we just want to evaluate your abilities. Those that passes will proceed to a briefing about the job.

A cop came to each of us and took us to different places in the arena.

Officer: Begin!

Here's the second chapter! You don't rly see many stories where the protagonist chooses a law enforcement job except maybe some One Piece fanfics but the Yu-Gi-Oh world offers a chance I couldn't possibly pass up. Anyway, thanks for reading I hoped you liked it!
