Running For It

Gartendi, Barshead Region, 12:30 Hours

"Linda, bloody move it! These green gits aren't exactly the nicest of people!" Jerry yelled at his younger sister while their olive green greatcoats flapped in the wind as they sprint for it, whizz, crack, thud. Bullets flew and cracked and broke brick and mortar and splintered wood all the same as they ran and ran in a desperate attempt to escape from the bangs and angry shouting of the orcs and their rifles.

They turned to shoot behind them with their rifles, pulling the bolt back and pushing them forward as they shot round after round, dropping the lightly armoured and uniformed orcs, sparks flying off the armour as the bullets go in. They began running again, hopping through a window and sprinting forward and through into a back garden then hopping a few fences and desperately trying to get to the beach.

The forest elves that seen Linda and Jeremy looked confused before they both shouted at them "There are bloody orcs coming!"

The forest elves didn't take long muttering in their language and then got ready to fight whatever was coming before they both finally reached the beach after running for a good while and seeing the beach, soldiers lining up, sandbags everywhere, the men drinking and playing songs, trying to keep themselves entertained, but everything felt depressing as there were places where bodies laid lined under blankets and troops who looked lost.

Many races lined the beach, dressed in Isle Kingdom uniforms, some not wearing coats, some not wearing tunics. Faces ranged from faux smiles and some were just of pure misery. It wasn't long before Jeremy spotted a friend, Sergeant Garston. They moved on over and then seen him lighting a cigarette and looking out, seeing the lines of men, even some standing in the ocean and waiting for some sort of boat.

Garston was a human man with a skinny physique but was more than capable of holding himself in a fight. He was dressed in standard Isle Expeditionary Force uniform like us but slightly worn and torn from days of warfare and battling in the Gartendi forests.

Jerry then said "Doing alright Garston?"

The Sergeant turned on a penny and then face us, looking partially surprised "Bloody underworld, hello Lin, hello Jerry, thought you got lost fighting those ugly green bastards in Mardanais. How did you get here?"

"Some truck driven by a forest elf, we got cut off and had to get to the beach," Jerry explained while Garston nods, smoking his cigarette.

"This whole bloody operation is a mess... Two of our ships got bombed to shite in the Forduna Channel. We've had twenty dive bomber attacks in the last four days and picking up bits of corpse from those bombing runs. Tell me, Jerry, how are the Royal Isle Navy going to get Four-hundred thousand men off this beach and then the Gartendi Elves after?" Garston growls, irritated by the stupidity of it all.

He then offered the dark elves a cigarette, but Jerry politely declined with his sister and then Garston looks out to see a boat pumping out a blackish blue smoke and getting men on board as they sat there on the dune looking out and waiting for anything to come on the horizon "This is going to be a bloody long wait."
