1 month later.

The last month has been exactly what I needed to get myself on track for surviving in this world. My workouts have been showing steady progress, that I won't lie I found myself wishing for a system or a dimension that I could train in without time passing in the real world.

'Ahh, I read too many fanfics and the like' I sighed internally as I loaded the last of my supplies into my new RV.

I had definitely begun to gain muscle, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I had focused on reps more than weight and my body had starting toning and filling out. I wasn't some big burly muscle guy, but my strength will probably surprise a few people if they judge me off my size.

Along with that workout routine I had continued training in my marksmanship ship both with guns and the compound hunting bow that was slowly winning my heart. It was the best of both worlds, a weapon I could easily make more ammo for with some practice, silent and not too mention powerful.

Training with it was also a lot more pleasant on my ammo reserves, so I found myself leaning towards it more and more and leaving the guns as a last resort. Though I was slowly turning into a mini armory, did I ever say how much I love Georgia?

Fucking bugs and this godforsaken humidity aside, I was beginning to love this place. At least it's former inhabitants I should say. Where I had found gun stores empty and ransacked… The homes, the homes were where the real stockpile was. People loved their guns in the south as well as ATVs, side by sides, dirt bikes, jeeps. Honestly the jail had become a bit of a redneck festival as I cleared the town.

I used dirt bikes or atvs for small missions where I just wanted to get in and out. I had a jeep for exploring the more rugged areas. My time had not been wasted, morning was working out and training, right into scavenging in new areas. By the middle of the 3rd week I had scoped all of Kings County and looted half of it. I had also lost count on the amount of walkers I had killed, but besides stragglers coming from Atlanta it was mostly vacant of the damn things.

The ones leaving from Atlanta was also the reason I was ready to leave. The RV I had found parked outside a fancy suburban home that I operated out of as a sort of forward operating base due to its comfy beds and a much better set of workout equipment than the jail. The RV was amazing, it was basically brand new with a microwave and small stove built in that could be fire lit or gas lit, the top was all electrical. It had a shower and bathroom that as long as you kept the water tank filled you could have running water as long as you didn't mind it cold.

It had a TV with a dvd and vcr player attached to it and I found myself relaxing to movies in there from time to time, but also watching educational things like fighting videos or how to take care of an RV. The only problem was that the RV didn't have the capability charge the battery through solar power. I would need to find other batteries and charge the current battery anytime it died, so I kept the usage to minimum if I could.

Behind the RV I had hitched up an old horse trailer that I fixed up with reinforcements on the outside. I fit all my supplies onto racks and shelves I had built on the inside and still had room to bring the side by side along. It was a bulky ride, but I felt it was worth it. Even if got stuck as long as I made it close enough to the others that I could have them help me unload the trailer it would be worth it.

I closed up the back of the trailer and latched it shut, pulling on the handles as a force of habit. One time during one of my scavenging missions I thought I had secured it but when I took off to get away from a horde of walkers it opened and half my load spilled out. Giving it a firm tap walked around the side of the 20 foot horse trailer and checked where it was connected to the RV again.

Everything looked good so I continued to the driver door of the RV and hopped in. With a twist of the key the vehicle came on and I felt the vibration of the engine travel up my feet as well as my seat to the rest of my body. This was another thing I had come to enjoy in this body, I could drive. Even just riding would have been a step up from back then, but now I could drive as well.

I turned on the CD player and pulled out the next disk from a case for a narrated story that I had found in the library. It was called A Storm of Swords the 3rd book of a series called A Song of Ice and Fire. It only had one book after this one that I could find, but I was hooked after listening to first one.

(AN: perhaps if MC dies I'll take him to GoT? Though I haven't actually read the books myself)

With that I was pulling out of the police department for perhaps the last time. I had looked at the maps multiple times and found the road that would lead me to the highway that the Atlanta group must've taken to end at the Green farm on the way to Fort Benning. I drove in silence as I listened to the book being read to me, enjoying the solitude while it last because soon I was going to be surrounded by people. I shuddered slightly.

The thought of other people brought back the memories of the night I had had to kill Morgan and Duane. Parts of me still felt remorse for the action, but the bigger parts of me knew that it was just how it was. If I wanted to keep enjoying life I needed this body to live. I had to continue to get stronger, smarter and take precautions as much as I could.

As for my "family" well I had already decided how to handle that. Shane will be useful, so I'm not going to just dump him. I don't even care for Lori, nor do I want her as a partner let alone a wife. So there's no point in throwing any kind of fit over that. I plan on leaning heavily on the amnesia card, I'll still try to be a father to Carl as best I can. He deserves that much.

A few hours into my ride the cars began to grow denser and I saw a horde of walkers mixed in with the cars in front of me. My eyes widened when I saw the RV from the show mixed in, a man laying on top it that must have been Dale. I couldn't see anybody else through cars, but I was confused.

"How are they so fucking late through here?" I said aloud as I parked the RV and turned it off. There was no way I could plow through those walkers, and then there's Dale's RV that's in the way. I though for sure though that they would at least be at the farm already if not on their way to fort Benning already.

I stepped back further into the RV and began equipping myself. My ballistic vest went on over my shirt with my knife and pistol mags slotted into the pockets of it. My kukri machete hung from left hip, while my beretta was holstered on my right. KA-BAR knife strapped to my right thigh and lastly I slow my quiver of arrows over my shoulder, and grabbed my bow that had 3 arrows stuck into a small holder attached to the bow.

I stepped out of the RV just as one of the few straggling walkers made it to my vehicle. Holding my bow in my left hand I drew my kukri and with a kick to the knee the walker fell to the ground. I brought the blade down hard and fast at its outstretched neck and relished the feeling of it slicing right through. I had noticed as the days went on that with my strength getting better the walkers were also beginning to show signs of decay and weakness. This allowed my strike to usually pass through cleanly on older walkers.

With it down I sheathed the machete and knocked an arrow on my bow, letting loose arrows as the 5 walkers approached me. At this close range of just 20 yards I was confident in hitting my shots, and I did. Each arrow found the skull of a walker and I retrieved each one as I walked pass even it was just the shaft.

I continued my advance until I reached Dales RV and I could some struggling inside, I eased around the side and looked through he little window to see a walker clawing at the bathroom door. I hurried in, pulling my knife from its spot on my thigh. Before it could turn towards me due I tackled it to the floor and drive the blade deep into its skull. Ripping it out I wiped the blade on it clothes before standing up.

"Stay inside until the coast is clear." I tapped on the door as I passed and left the RV. I heard a scramble from inside and when I turned to shit the door I found 2 teary eyed blondes staring at me and I had to double take. Amy was alive? Jesus what else has changed?

"Who are you?" The one I knew to be Andrea said with a screwdriver held shakily in her hand. I placed a finger to my lips to get her to quiet down as I posted at the walkers ahead of us.

"I'm here to help, just stay in there for now." I said calmly and began to walk ahead, she seemed ready to say something but thankfully Amy stopped her and pulled her further inside away from the door. I peeked in between the cars and saw the still shambling figures of the walkers.

I let them continue on their way, only taking out the ones farthest from the main group and soon everything was quiet until I heard the sound of a gun cock, the click of a crossbow locking and the steps of people behind me.

"You won't shoot that gun. I'm more worried about the guy with the crossbow." I said as I held my hand up in the air by my head.

"Oh ya? Why's that?" A gruff voice said from behind me and I instantly recognized it. I used one hand to point forward to the disappearing horde.

"Because it would bring all them back down on us. Besides I saved 2 of yours from an attack inside your RV." It was silent for a moment until I heard to hurried footsteps.

"Why are you all aiming at him like that?! He save me and Andrea from a walker!" It seems Amy came to my rescue, and with a bit more zealous than I would have expected after just one encounter. Shane however spoke back to them.

"We don't know this guy, and he just comes through out of nowhere and you want to trust him?" Then right beside me I heard movement and a small child's head popped out from under the truck beside me. It was Carl.

"Dad?" Carl asked his eyes furrowed in confusion and I heard everyone behind me echo.

"""Dad?""" Before I could react Carl finished climbing out from under the vehicle and charged me.

"Dad!" His words sent a shock through my system as his arms wrapped around me, but I kept my arms up in the air frozen.

"Carl that's not your dad, get away from him! Your dad… your dad didn't-" The female voice that was heavy with worry and emotion was cutoff as I dropped my hand down and picked up Carl while turning around.

"You put him down you son of a-!" But Shane's words caught in his throat too as I turned completely around with Carl now hugging me tightly around my neck and my hand snaked up his back to his head as I held him close.

'Fuck… fuck. Why…? Why did it have to be like this?' I screamed internally. As soon as I had seen him and he crushed me in a hug, when his words entered my ears it crumbled everything I had planned. It reminded me that this body was not my body, I felt my heart ache and my stomach churn at the thought that I had been away from him for so long. I could only be thankful that when I turned around and saw Lori and Shane standing there that I didn't feel anything.

No emotion were elicited from seeing the shocked expression of Rick's wife, I felt a happiness that she and Shane were alive. But I didn't feel the same heart hurting thankfulness like I did with Carl.

"Rick… you're alive.." Shane managed to get out and I saw Lori start to slowly make her way towards us. Tears were flowing down her cheeks but I still didn't feel the same pang as with Carl. I did however wrap a free arm around her as crushed me and Carl into an embrace. I felt a warmth like you would a friend that you hadn't seen in a while and I was thankful that was all I felt.

"This little get together is cute and all but T is bleeding out here." Darryl said from my right and I looked to see that T-Dog was indeed bleeding from his arm like the show. I let go of my arm around Lori and handed Carl to her as i crouched down in front of the bleeding man and nodded.

"I can fix that."
