"I got a new puppy," said Jillian to her
cousin, Billy on the phone one day.
"I have to come and see him," said Billy. "I
can come over now if that is okay?"
"We just finished our Thanksgiving dinner,"
said Jillian. "So that will be okay."
Billy came right over and he laughed when he
saw Jillian's new puppy.
"Why are you laughing at my new puppy?" asked
Jillian.
"He isn't real," said Billy.
"I know that," said Jillian. "He is a
robot."
"Why would anyone get a robot for a puppy?"
asked Billy, not impressed.
"Well," said Jillian. "We canjust as
much fun with the robot puppy as we can with a real one. However,
we don't have to clean up the mess or feed or water him."
"Hmm," said Billy, remembering all the times
that he had to clean up after his puppy and how much he disliked
that job. "I guess that makes sense."
Jillian and Billy had fun playing with the
robotic puppy. Mother called them upstairs to have some
Thanksgiving dessert and they didn't even hear her calling
them.
"Children!" Mother called, coming downstairs
to find out what they were doing "Come get some pumpkin pie for
Thanksgiving dessert."
"We will," said Jillian. "We were just
playing with my new robotic puppy."
"Oh yes," said Mother. "Do you like him?"
"Yes," said Jillian. "I like him very
much."
"Come upstairs now," said Mother. "We have
pie and ice cream."
Jillian and Billy went upstairs and they had
a big slice of pumpkin pie and a big scoop of ice cream with
it.
"That was good," said Billy, rubbing his
tummy.
"Now that you are nice and full," said Aunt
Ruby, who was sitting across the table. "Why don't you and Jillian
take Sandy out for a walk?"
Sandy was Aunt Ruby's six year old
poodle.
"Okay," said Billy.
Billy and Jillian both got up from the table
and took Sandy for a walk. Sandy was a good dog but she did not
listen well and she pulled and tugged at her leash and made it very
difficult for Billy and Jillian to walk her.
"I really think I am liking the idea of your
robotic puppy," said Billy, half way through the walk."
"Yes," said Jillian. "Me too!"
Billy went home that night and he found that
his parents had bought him a robotic toy. It wasn't a robotic puppy
but he loved it just the same.
"Thank you," said Billy.
The next day, Billy took his robotic toy to
show Jillian.
"Now we both have robots," said Jillian.
"Yes," said Billy. "We do."
"I am very thankful for my robotic puppy,"
said Jillian.
"I am very thankful for my robotic toy," said
Billy.
Both Jillian and Billy were very thankful
that they got robotic toys to play with."
