1 Asher

(Please before you dive in, I would like for you to know that the main part of this novel is not situated on Earth though it starts there and continues till the 50th chapter. )

"Asher, don't die riding a delivery bike, or your mum will have to pay the restaurant for bike damages." A boy shouted at the side of the street, causing those with him to burst into laughter.

Asher didn't react to the taunt of the boy as he sped off on the delivery bike. He had become used to all the insults, as it had become a common occurrence for him. Though he was still bothered by it every single time. He could barely bottle up his desire to smash the boy's face into the pavement.

Asher slowed down after some time and then came to a stop, the bike coughed up smoke, it was clear that it was quite old. He turned around and shouted.

"Fuck your mother asshole." He raised both middle fingers to the boy in the distance.

Upon hearing the insult, the boy along with his crew climbed their motorcycles and sped towards Asher.

"You mother fucking un-awakened piece of shit! I am going to show you where you belong in this world." The boy shouted as he revved his engine, heading towards Asher.

Asher got on his delivery bike and tried to start it, but it refused to start.

"Fuck!" this was not in the plan. Asher knew that he was in a butt load of self-bought trouble. He began running, as the sound of the motorcycles got closer.

Asher could not get too far before the three motorcycles surrounded him, and there was no way he could outrun them. The boy whom he insulted came down from his bike and ran towards Asher.

"You piece of trash!" He punched Asher in his guts with a Meta-infused punch, sending him flying backward a few meters, landing on the cold hard road.

People from all around began looking in that direction, interested in the scene that was happening. A boy wanted to come help, but as soon as he noticed the person getting beat up, he sighed and refrained from action, turning away as though he saw nothing. He walked back to where his friends were.

Asher stood up, struggling to stand. His head was bruised, and blood dripped down his head. He slowly began walking. At the same time, muttering something under his breath.

"Why is my life like this?" he asked himself, even though it was his big mouth that caused him this current predicament.

He had hoped things would change for him, and that he would be seen as a human, instead of a piece of trash to be trampled on. He was fed up with all the pain, just because his genes were trash. He had tried to make meaning to his life, finally getting a job. Still, life did not see him as a human.

Asher walked slowly till he got to where the boy was. The boy seeing how dejected Asher was, did not bother to beat him up anymore. He stepped to the side, allowing Asher to pass. Asher walked under the gazes of people who held pity for him, though they pitied him, none of them would stick their necks out for him. Asher got to his bike and began pushing it slowly, soon he left the view of everybody.

Asher finally arrived home. The door was locked, meaning his mum was not back from work yet. He used his key and open the door. He went straight up to his room, not caring about the delivery he did not complete.

Entering his room, He took a shower, cleaned his bruise, and put on a fresh set of clothes. He sat on the bed, then transitioned into lying. He took the TV remote from on top of the small cabinet beside his bed and turned on the TV, he wanted to distract his mind from everything.

As soon as the screen lit up, it showed the NEWS channel. Asher never watched the news, but right now he needed the noise just for it to distract him. The headlines were being said by the reporter.

"A Town in Section B was attacked by a beast tide, luckily, there was an elite awakened at the scene. The elites were able to neutralize all the beast with little casualties and collateral damage"

The advent of these beasts was about Two hundred years ago. The animals on earth were mutated, by an energy tagged as Meta energy. They became extremely powerful, holding unusual abilities.

At first, there was no real understanding as to what was happening. Humanity was now at war with these beasts. Humanity began tittering on the brink of extinction, as all the weapons they had slowly became more and more ineffective over time as the beasts grew stronger.

After about twenty years of constant losses, humanity found hope, as people began awakening genetic abilities. The Meta energy that caused the animals to mutate, also caused the latent genes of humans to awaken. Though humans are far from being able to defeat the beasts, they were able to rebuild a smaller new society where people could stay.

The continent of Europe had become the new world to humans, divided into sections. As for the rest of the world, humans have been unable to retrieve it from the beasts.

The Alliance, which was the new governmental power created the Elites program, where people would be trained to become warriors that would fight for humanity.

Asher's father had been one of those Elite, he was even one of the best. His father had led a team to stop a massive beast tide and he was never found, probably eaten by a beast. Asher was six at the time.

The alliance had taken care of them for six months, but after that, the money stopped coming. Forcing his mum to work as a cleaner at a hospital. When he hit sixteen, he dropped out of school to help his mum. She was not happy with it, but he stood his ground.

In this new world, one awakened around early teens. So when Asher did not awaken, he felt extremely dejected. Over time he came to accept his fate, but society rubbed it in his face.

"Why is this world so cruel?"

Asher got down from his bed and walked to his cupboard. He opened it up and took a small black box. Opening the box, there was a pendant inside. It was a black stone inside a dark metallic frame, connected to the frame was a black chain as well.

This was the only thing that his dad left for him before he died. Asher walked back to the bed slowly while looking at the pendant inside the box, trying to recall the times he had spent with his dad.

Not looking where he was going, he kicked his leg on the base of the bed, causing the box to fall.

"Fuck!" Asher cursed as he bent to pick it up, he noticed a piece of paper sticking out of a hidden compartment in the box. Asher took it quickly, opening the paper to read its content.
