Will of the World

Just as Kevin opened his eyes after thanking the gods for his luck, he noticed something strange in the sky. Instead of the beautiful evening sky donned with amber lights of sunset, a black fog seemed to gather above the clouds reaching as far as his eyes could see.

"It's not supposed to rain at this time though?" Kevin thought feeling a little confused. Same was the case with everyone else in the city too, who seemed to notice this abnormality.

People were curiously taking out their phones and taking photos of the weird sky phenomenon. Some are checking news or weather reports about it.

"Aaaaaaaaarrghhhhhhhhhhh"

Just when they were confused about this sudden change in nature, a light scream seemed to echo in their ears.

There was no sound as to speak off, cause just then a feeling of pain and grief rose, that everyone could feel in their hearts for all of a sudden. Like they were all heartbroken over something that they lost, and yet no one knew why or what actually happened.

Confused people looked at each other seeing the same look of questions and wariness on everyone's face.

Even the sky seemed to be torn apart and rain started to fall down. As if the nature itself felt the pain in that voice and cried along with it.

"What happened?" Sophia asked as she looked at the crowd around her which started to freak out and started running and screaming. Some couldn't even get their senses back and started crying directly on their knees for no reason.

Kevin looked at Sophia, who was looking around, clutching her heart with moist eyes and didn't know what to say. He stood there, motionless on the scene, seemingly unaffected by the wave of pain that seemed to affect everyone else in the city.

'What's happening?' He asked and looked up at the sky as if looking for God, but what he saw caused him to tremble and fall down on the road.

There in the sky in between the falling raindrops, he witnessed dark clouds moving in a supernatural pattern. As a red light glowed behind that darkness, which seemed to pierce his soul directly.

"Wh_what is that?" Kevin said dripped in sweat and shaking in fear. His instincts forced him to keep his eyes closed so he couldn't see anything anymore. Yet the scene from before seemed to be etched in his mind, scaring him senseless.

Ali on the other hand was staring at the sky above too, yet unlike Kevin he didn't see anything except falling raindrops that seemed to hide his tears behind them.

The sky seemed to become darker every second next, as the howling of animals and screams of humans created a symphony of pain that echoed throughout the city.

Everyone wished for that pain to go away. And so it did.

People started getting clarity as they stood up from the ground and dropped whatever they were doing previously and started wondering about this situation.

But just then a storm seemed to be brewing in the sky as thunderclouds gathered and loud sounds of thunder echoed everywhere. Blue and red thunder seemed to pass through everywhere, as the static current passed through everything, giving everyone chills down their spine.

The scene itself looked something straight out of some Hollywood movie or game graphics, unreal.

The scientists and researchers living in the city were having a hard day just looking at all the data their computers and algorithms gathered and showed on their screens. While those astrologers and cosmic fanboys were practically living the best of their dreams in reality as the scene through their telescopes looked so unexpected, so surreal.

All kinds of theories and rumors went around in their circles. From the coming of an angel to the fall of the devil. Birth of a star to formation of a blackhole. Was it the start of a world ending catastrophe, an apocalypse, or an alien invasion – no one knew anything for sure. So all they could do was just flip the books or write it down or record it all for later.

A weight seemed to fall on everyone's shoulders forcing them to bend down. Bow their heads or close their eyes.

20 million people lived in that city and at this moment they were all turned blind as their whole world seemed to be drowned in darkness.

But all of it lasted only a few seconds and then the light returned.

The world seemed calm and peaceful just as it was a few moments ago. If not for the look of fear and confusion in everyone's eyes, or the wailing and trembling shock of their bodies, along with all the damage that was caused by various accidents and collisions or the strikes of that thunder - everyone would even doubt the reality of this situation.

People soon started getting clarity in their heads and started rushing back to their homes or calling their family and friends. Many opened their internet and checked social media for any activity but found it was blocked and they couldn't access anything.

Everything was back to the way it was before. Sophia was still standing there with confused eyes, shouting orders at her colleagues and anyone around her to maintain order and stop any commotion.

Kevin also opened his eyes without any fear now. The scared look he had all this time seemed to be gone, as he probably forgot that piercing gaze and that scene ever existed. Yet if anyone closely looked at him, they'd notice the severe lack of confidence or arrogance in him at this moment.

Ali was back to his senses too. His heart felt a little lighter after he shed a few tears and calmed down a little.

His guards were checking each other for any injuries and contacting his family for any instructions or news.

"Call the hospital and get the procedure done for retrieving Shiva's body. I don't need any more cuts and scratches on his corpse for any postmortem or donation. Prepare the stuff for his funeral and get everything done in order without any mistakes." Ali said to Daniel as Sophia dispersed the crowd and came forward to take him away.

Despite all the chaos that was outside her control, it seemed that she still wanted to do her job rightfully.

Far away from the surface of the world, an entity covered in pure darkness stood in front of a small wisp of light.

The wisp of light was the World Will of this planet called Earth. Absolute ruler of everything and everyone's fate in her world. The world will always have only one task, which is to maintain order and balance along the preservation of life.

Yet at this moment, this all knowing, all powerful Will of the World shook in fear and lost all its luster and pride in front of this mysterious entity, which almost destroyed her entire planet and everyone in it, before she intervened.

Since the creation of earth, for the first time it made a move. A show of its power. And yet the result was a complete and utter defeat.

"I _ I didn't know." A stuttering sound came from the wisp, yet what answered it was a pair of red eyes staring back at it.

"Where is he?" A bone chilling cold voice echoed directly in the heart of this planet's core, causing cracks to appear on it.

"I'll help you, _ just _ just let me go. _ I _ I beg you." The wisp of light said in fear and agreed to do everything the darkness told her to do.

"Find him. Take me to him."

"Y_ye_yes. I_I'll do it right now." The Will of the World said and after some time of searching around the entire cosmos and various planes of existence and countless realities, it finally found him.

"Arcadia. He's on Arcadia." The Will of the World said and breathed a sigh of relief as the entity of darkness disappeared completely from her planet.

"I saved you this time, my child. You better pay me back later on." The Will of the World said as her gaze crossed everything and landed on Kevin, her favorite chosen protagonist..

Yet next moment a sound of a finger snap rang out in her presence, and all the memories it had of Darkness and anything related to her disappeared from her mind. Leaving it confused about what it was doing or why it was feeling so weak all of a sudden?

Author note - The final part of this chapter about the Darkness and world will has nothing to do with this novel for quite a while. That conversation and events are for my first novel LOAN which is connected to the scenes happening in ch115-117 of that novel.

If you are curious about what happened there and what it led to, do read those three chapters and you'll understand everything.
