2. Rebirth (2)

{A/N: Okay so I've been getting a lot of complaints about the wishes but there was a reason I didn't ask for some special physique. Mainly, it was because I didn't want my character to take the easy way out by having more than one ability as I believe the emperor eye is op enough and having some cool physique on top of that would be overkill. If I wrote him having a special physique thing and made him work hard as well, then I would question why I even gave him a special physique in the first place.

Kaito understands that talent and looks aren't something you can 'work hard' for which is why he wished for that. I know some of ya'll might say that looks aren't everything but frankly, if you're someone insecure about your looks then you would do the same thing. I don't know...at the time I wrote it, the reason sounded plausible in my mind but I'm not sure if many will understand what I'm trying to get at.

Long story short...I'm not changing the wishes.}

Six years later ~

[Yokohama General Hospital, March 18th]

"It's a girl!"

Kaito felt his heart beat with anticipation. Nine months prior, his mother had come out with the message of her pregnancy and Kaito was delighted to know he'd be getting a younger sibling. His step-father, Tadashi, was elated since the two had been trying for a child since they got married and finally his wish was fulfilled.

With their new addition to the family, Tadashi and Hana decided to move to Tokyo. Tadashi owned a small company with one of its branches stationed in Tokyo so money was no longer an issue. Hana had resigned from her job at the café after marrying him and finally had time to care for Kaito and be there for him.

Now that the family was moving to Tokyo, Kaito felt excited and eagerly awaited his meeting with the miracles.

The move was smooth and the family were able to purchase a decent sized two-story house. The design was modern and new and there was a small garage at the bottom. The movers safely delivered all their belongings and placed the bigger objects in their places under Tadashi's instructions.

The backyard of the house had a concrete covering which was made into a half-court for Kaito whose parents knew of his love for basketball. The family settled in relatively easily and their new life in Tokyo began.

Now 12-years-old, Kaito has already passed the first stage of life and would soon be going to Junior High. His level of basketball had now surpassed many his age though it still was far from perfect. He felt his pacing was good and had confidence to match the miracles with his current level.

Kaito was at the age to enrol in Junior high and he chose to go to Shōei Junior High. It was the same school Kiyoshi Teppei - the Uncrowned King Iron Heart, went to. It was an elite Junior high school ranking fourth in the best in the country. Tadashi was very generous when it came to Kaito's education and didn't bat an eye at the school he chose.

The school term would be starting in April so Kaito had more than enough time to prepare. He still kept to his daily training and practiced his skills whenever he was free. His shooting accuracy was about the same as Midorima's since he did his best to shoot 100 three-pointers a day.

Thanks to his natural athletic body, he didn't have too much trouble in terms of speed, balance and jumping ability. He figured he could take Aomine one-on-one and win. He never dwindled when it came to working hard and gave 100 percent to all he did, including school work.

This was the reason his parents were never too strict with him. Most of the time, he was allowed to do what he wants but it only consisted of basketball or reading since that was all he was interested in. That was of course in the past as now, he enjoyed spending time with his baby sister who was named Aki. She was so small and tiny that Kaito was often afraid he might accidentally hurt her not having experience with babies before. He was an only child in his past life.

...

The month of March finally ended and the start of school drew nearer. Kaito had already received his school uniform and stationery and was all set to start the new school year.

He made sure to review the textbooks for the curriculum since he wanted to be ahead in his studies. A week passed and the first day at Shōei arrived.

His mother insisted she walk him to the gate and Kaito couldn't refuse, allowing his mother to send him off. She kissed his cheek in front of all the new students and he blushed in embarrassment.

"I'm going now Kaito. I'm sure by now, most parents would be telling their kids not to cause trouble and whatnot but I don't need to say anything to you. I know you'll be fine." Hana said as she straightened her son's uniform.

"Thanks mom. I'll be joining the basketball club so I might be a bit late coming home."

"That's fine sweetie. I'll let you go now." Hana smiled. Kaito gave her a short hug and quickly ran to go join the other students for the opening ceremony. Watching her darling son, Hana felt a bit sad and muttered to herself, "He grew up so fast...." A hand rested on her shoulder and she looked up to see her husband.

"One day we're gonna have to let him go. But at least we won't need to worry. He's a good kid and intelligent at that, and most importantly, he loves his family." Tadashi spoke with pride. Even though Kaito was not his biological son, he still loved him regardless and sincerely cared for the boy. Hana nodded at her husbands' words and the two went back to the car with baby Aki in Tadashi's arms.

[Open Field of Shōei school]

Hundreds of students lined up on the field as they awaited the Principal to make his speech. The Vice-Principal opened with the traditional greeting and the school choir sang a song before the Principal finally took to the stage.

Kaito watched from one of the lines and listened to the speech with little interest. His tall and handsome stature caught the eyes of many though it seemed he either didn't notice or paid no attention to it. Another tall body caught his eye in the line next to his and he recognised the person as Kiyoshi. He looked the same as in the anime but younger.

After the ceremony ended, the students were directed to their classes and Kaito walked up to the notice board to see which class he was placed into.

'Hmm, classroom 1-B. Oh? Looks like Kiyoshi is in the same class. Wait a minute....'

Kaito had thought he'd be the same age as the gom but it looks like he's a year older than them. That means he wouldn't get to play them till next year.

"But...this isn't too bad. I'll have time to familiarise myself with the team and maybe even help level up their abilities."

With those thoughts in mind, Kaito made his way to the classroom and took a seat in the middle. Other students started filing in and one of them came up to greet him.

"Hi, I'm Watanabe Shin. I couldn't help but notice you at the opening ceremony and thought you looked cool." the kid said. He was shorter than Kaito and had brown hair and eyes. No outstanding features but he seemed friendly.

"That's very straightforward of you but thanks. I'm Takahashi Kaito." Kaito grinned. Watanabe took the seat next to him and the two started chatting. Soon after, they were joined by the airhead and hidden manipulator, Kiyoshi Teppei who entered the conversation out of nowhere.

"Damn, why the hell are you two so tall? What do your parents feed you?!" Watanabe whined. He was annoyed and jealous of his new friend's heights.

"I believe it's called genes and luck bro." Kaito teased. Kiyoshi chuckled along making Watanabe pout. Kiyoshi's personality was the same as the story. He seemed a lot like an airhead but Kaito knew he was smart and unconsciously manipulative.

[A/N: In the anime and manga, Hyuuga often expresses his dislike for Kiyoshi because of his talent for 'giving advice' to people. Kiyoshi somehow always managed to push people in a certain direction with words and sayings which is why he is sometimes referred to as a manipulator.(By me of course)]

"Ne do you guys plan on joining any club?" Watanabe asked.

"I think I'll try out for the basketball one." Kaito said. "What about you two?"

"Hmm, I haven't decided yet. I was thinking of joining the cooking club." Kiyoshi said with a thoughtful expression. Kaito remembered that someone else had introduced Kiyoshi to basketball who later became a fan of it.

"I was thinking of joining the baseball club. They're top tier apparently." Watanabe said. He continued, "Basketball kind of suits you though Kaito-kun. You're tall enough for it but I heard it's super difficult to get into first string. This schools' basketball team ranks one of the highest in the country."

"That's true but I'll guess I'll just have to see how it goes. Ne, Kiyoshi," Kaito looked at the brunette. "Why don't we try out together? I think you'd be pretty great at basketball."

Kiyoshi looked confused, "What makes you say that? Being tall doesn't mean I'd be good at the sport."

"I know but something tells me you'd be good at it. Why don't you just try it out and see first?"

"Well, if you say so. It wouldn't hurt to try something new." Kiyoshi said nodding to himself. The trio descended into more chatter and only stopped when the teacher arrived.

a/n: I decided to make Kaito and Kiyoshi friends for no reason at all really. I just thought they'd be a good match and I quite like Kiyoshi.
