Rescue

As Mark made his way to the entrance he decided to ask Clye a few questions.

"Hey Clye, is it possible to add an inventory to the system?" Mark asked with anticipation clear in his tone.

"Unfortunately no, unless you unlock a spatial ability I can link it to later." Clye replied solemnly.

"No need to feel down, there isn't anything you can do about it." Mark replied hoping to cheer her up a bit.

"Sheesheeshee" Mark suddenly heard a strange laughter from around the corner. Peaking his head over he saw a short green creature that could only be a goblin.

'Does inspect work?' Mark tried and after trying different ways he gave up, deciding to ask Clye to make an inspect function after he secures the location.

Creeping slowly towards the goblin as it continued to wail on a corpse and laugh, Mark raised his sword and swung down as hard as he could on the creature's neck.

"Giuck!" the creature let out a muddled wail as it was flung to the ground, spasming from the electric shock and impact directly on its neck.

"Hyaa!" Mark let out as he swung once again, this time aiming to pierce the goblin's eye with the sword tip.

"Guragh!" The goblin shrieked as its life slowly faded from its one remaining eye.

"Phew, that wasn't too bad, but that scream definitely attracted unwanted attention. Clye can you make me an inspect function... oh and maybe some kind of bestiary?" Mark asked as he took a check around him before running off to the next room.

"I can, that one is much simpler than an inventory. I can probably have it done in ten to twenty minutes." Clye said proudly before silently going off to work.

Mark was about to thank her when he felt a cold sensation and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Without even looking, he immediately swung his sword around as he spun his body to match the momentum.

"Shreeeeee!"

Hearing the shriek Mark was shocked because he felt no resistance on his sword almost as if he hadn't hit anything.

Finally looking where he swung, he saw a ghost reforming its segmented body as electric arcs danced along its wounds.

Mark wiped the cold sweat off his head as he said in a low voice that only he could hear, "Thank god I put that taser in the character page..."

Before the ghost had the chance to reform, Mark swung his sword one last time through its head, killing it instantly.

As Mark was about to leave, he noticed the remains of the ghost had solidified into some type of dust.

"What is this..." Mark questioned as he dipped a finger into the substance. It was cold to the touch and chalky in texture.

Thinking it might be useful later, Mark pulled an empty water bottle from his carry on backpack and carefully poured the spectral dust inside.

"Neat, maybe I can use this in crafting once I figure out how to live through this airport fiasco." Mark chuckled as he stood up and continued into the main hall where the most chaotic scene he had ever witnessed was taking place.

Dozens of different species were there fighting, hiding, fleeing or eating. Mark could barely keep up with the pandemonium. Just as he was considering finding another way, a small girl with tears in her eyes noticed Mark and just stared at him as she hid under a table.

She didn't ask for help, she just stared, as if accepting the inevitable. Seeing this nearly ripped his heart out.

Not thinking much past that point, Mark dove into the swarm of monsters. He haphazardly swung his electrified weapon stunning any creature in the way as he rushed to the young girl's side.

"Take my hand; we need to get out of here ASAP!" Mark called out to the girl whose eyes were wide open now.

"Mm okay!" She tearily said as she grabbed his hand and they rushed off. Mark took the only viable path he could find, which unfortunately led back into the airport. He didn't have much of a choice though, so he took a breath and continued on.

Eventually finding a room around a corner, he ducked in and told the girl to be quiet as he watched all the monsters rush by in a frenzy.

Sighing in relief, he sat down and began panting as his adrenaline bottomed out. "You... okay... kid..?" Mark forced out as he looked at her. As she laid flat on the floor she turned her head and gave a quick nod.

"Yeah. Hah... hah... what's going on mister? What was that weird place I went to with nothing in it and those monsters outside?" The little girl began rapidly asking a myriad of questions to the only adult she could, and Mark tried to piece together a reassuring answer for her with what he knew.

"I don't know what happened, or why, but I do know a bit about the void we went to. You had to pick a class and sub-class right? That void was there to give us time to pick."

"Ohh! What did you pick mister?! I picked mage and rune crafter!" The little girl excitedly proclaimed.

"Hahaha I picked warrior and artificer." Mark said chuckling at the child in front of him.

"Alright, do you think you can stay here for a little while? I'm going to go deal with some of those mean monsters and clear us a path out of here." Mark said with a kind look on his face.

"No! Mister it's too dangerous! What if you get hurt!" The young girl worriedly told him.

"Don't worry about me, I'm strong!" Mark stated with a flex of his arms.

With that, Mark picked up his sword and carefully exited the room. Doing his best to avoid detection he made his way into the blood stained hallway. Looking for any stragglers from his pursuers, he carefully stepped over the remnants of the monster's spoils of war. After a few minutes he found a straggler from the last group and was about to make his way over, but at the same time a voice rang out in his head, "Aaaaand done!"
