Chapter 2: Off I Go!

Recap:

"Well here we go. My life as a system."

Ling off towards the help desk. Pondering what would happen from then on.

----------------

Ling sauntered towards a lady whom was typing away vigorously on a laptop. Seeming to preoccupied to notice him.

"Excuse me mam?"

Ling called out nervously as to try and get her attention. But shee didn't seem to be able to hear him as she had a headset on and had her back facing towards him.

Ling called out a little more louder, mustering the courage.

"Excuse me."

It still didn't work.

"Excuse me!"

The woman dressed in a tight fitting suit finally turned around startled. Everyone else was looking at Ling who had shouted loudly.

At that moment he wanted to bury himself in the ground. His face turned a peachy pink and he began fiddling with the hem of his shirt.

"I-uh um I'm sorry. I called you multiple times b-before but you didn't hear me.."

The blue haired males voice trailed off as he continued his sentence. The woman's eyes softened as she removed her headset and swivelled around on her chair so her body fully faced him.

"Ah sorry young man. It was entirely my fault. I should have been paying more attention."

"It's alright. I just wanted to know what to do since I was assigned as a system. But I have no host."

"A you must be the new set of newbies chief was going on about. Please just press the red button over there."

The female pointed towards a red button attached to a large screen. It looked similar to that of some sort of lottery machine.

"Thank you."

Ling quickly bowed and scurried off. The desk lady chuckled at his cute antic.

'What a cute, adorable newbie we got here. I'm sure his host will be happy to have him. I wonder what type of system he will become.'

Ling stood before the large contraption. Looking at it from different angles. He looked like a clueless baby chick without it's mother.

'I guess I just press this big red button.'

The ocean eyed adult stretched out his hand and gently pressed down the button.

Suddenly,

A scream pierce the spring morning. It echoed through the large base making the origin hard to pin-point.

Ling had been scared **** less. He stumbled to the ground. The red button. Had made a loud sound that he had not been selecting. A cheery voice sounded to him,

[SELECTING A HOST!]

That is when he screamed in fright and surprise. He touched his fast beating heart. He couldn't help but laugh at himself. His face turning into a ripe tomato. People stared at him cracking a smile as they went on their merry way. Some asked if he was alright in which Ling responded with a silent nod.

The help desk lady rushed over to see what had happened before cracking into a laugh.

"Ah it seems to have been the slot machine for picking the host. That hasn't happened in quite some time. Must have gave you quite the fright."

Ling nodded before getting up. He stared at the screen amazed. It was all in a blur. He could see some passing names.

The woman in the black suit decided to explain what was happening to the adorable new system.

"Quite fascinating isn't it. This is like a slot machine. Once you press the button a random host will be given to you. Most of them are newbies. Once the person is selected you must go to their world and collect them. This machine will also decide on what type of system you are. Whether you and your selected host go to save the villain or scavenge for rare materials. The possibilities are endless. I must be going now. Stay safe and try not to scream too loud next time."

The two of them chuckled. She waltzed away to continue with her work.

Ling was left alone as he waited for the results.

He couldn't help but be excited, nervous and scared.

What if his host didn't like him?

What if he failed his mission?

What if he dies alone?

Ling slapped his cheeks. Dismissing the depressing thoughts. He pumped his fist. A spark of determination filtering through his eyes.

There was no use in worry now.

He just had to try his best. And if that wasn't good enough. Well to bad he was screwed.

[Please place hand on the designated hand print.]

As the mechanic voice said that a rectangular box slowly emerged which surprised Ling. There was a hand outline on it. He presumed that was where he was suppose to place his palm.

The male placed it on softly. A red light soon began scanning his land.

How advance!

[100% match! Congratulations!]

People turned to stare at Ling in amazement at the sudden announcement. At the sudden attention Ling sweat dropped.

What did 100% match mean. Wasn't that normal?

The clueless and confused male then heard loud whispering from behind him.

"He got 100% match with a host! How lucky. I've only seen people have only 90% at most. But 100%! And he is a newbie. He hasn't even met his host."

Ling's ears perked up as he continued listening to the conversation.

"I head only host 'Mysterio' and his system 'Question' have ever had 100% compatibility!"

"Doesn't that mean he's destined for greatness."

"I'm not sure. But have 100% I heard means that it was fate!"

Ling was still confused. They didn't really mention what having 100% compatibility meant. Well he'll figure it out later.
