Luck and strategy

"A rift." Finrod said, his eyes glued on the purple fissure.

The red mist oozed out of it and although it was still lesser than his time around the woods, it was present and that was nothing but a bad omen.

He contemplated turning to the side and just continuing onwards but he dispersed the thought and continued his journey forward.

"What under the goddess's eye?" He blurted as he almost stepped on a large snake that was squirming to the side, he could neither see its tail nor head.

[Wick iron snake(Transformed)-lvl 11]

The highest level he had seen yet, although he had won against a demon at lvl 1, he knew it was mostly out of luck and luck always runs out at some point, there was no use entertaining the snake.

He jumped over it making as little sound as possible.

'Transformed… Does that make them closer to the demons or is this supposed to be a blessing? Either way, it's interesting.' he thought looking back at the snake.

He continued his journey noticing nothing of immediate danger. Then he heard aggressive growlings from the front, he immediately went behind a tree by the side and hid. That sound, he was much too familiar with it, he slowly turned and peeped and he saw that they were:

'Demons'

Two demons stood at a feud against one another, making growls and pushing each other, it seemed like just an act of entertainment, that the two were just playing until one moved forward and dug its fangs into one's shoulder tearing away a chunk of flesh.

The injured one yelped and pushed away the aggressor.

[Lesser demon-lvl 12]

[Lesser demon-lvl 15]

And just as expected, it was the demon with level 15 that had gotten itself a chunk of meat.

Finrod felt his stomach churn at the sight of the demon chewing its fellow demon's flesh not because he held a certain belief of morality against cannibalism but rather the smell.

The two demons were about twenty meters away from him, their lower bodies hidden by some plants.

The level 15 lesser demon was broad and brawny with a little fat gut to go with it, it was red just like all he had seen so far and it had a straight thick horn jutting from the center of its head, and it was tall.

The level 12 lesser demon on the other hand was of an average elf's width, it had a bit of muscle but unlike its partner, its lower limb consisted not of two legs but a large tail like that of snakes, it had one large eye fixed in the center of its face.

Its hand was over its large wound as it winced in pain while the other freely chewed the chunk of tough meat.

'How do I get them out of here? I'll be spotted whether I move right or left and I certainly can't move forward, I can't take them on either.'

Then an idea came to mind.

He quietly nocked an arrow on his bow facing it on the ground to prevent them from seeing it jutting from the tree's side.

'This better work.' he inhaled deeply and exhaled and then he concentrated.

He couldn't exactly recall how he had created the arrow of lightning earlier, how he had tapped into the power of the so-called gods but he had to try.

He closed his eyes which seemed like a very bad idea in his situation. Blue energy left his core and flowed through his veins oozing out from his hands, he then opened his eyes, his countenance being that of resolve.

He swung his bow to the side and quickly visualized lightning suddenly letting the arrow go, the arrow flew at great speed coated with the lightning element hissing and brightening the area and it zoomed forward.

It caught the attention of the demons, they didn't think of where it had come from. The large one hurried at the direction running till it couldn't be seen.

The other injured demon simply coiled its tail and mumbled some words that Finrod couldn't hear as it pressed its hand against its wound.

Finrod contemplated whether to fight it or to somehow go around it.

'No, it's injured. There's no more opportunity than this and besides, it certainly wouldn't be able to dodge my arrows of lightning, I just need to ambush it.'

He had decided and there, he recalled. He hadn't allocated his gained stat points to any of his stats, his worry caught the best of him and he forgot. He had to be quick about it.

He opened his stats information and checked the values, they were mostly the same aside from stamina and mana that had lessened which was quite understandable, health had increased by five points as well.

"How do I do this?" He mumbled.

He focused on the 'Unspent Stat Points' tab and it brought its information out again, he focused on it further and after a few seconds, the system recognized his intent and brought out options.

[Would you like to distribute your stat points? Yes or No]

Finrod was almost tempted to say yes, instead, he chose his answer telepathically and it was yes.

His stats, the one below his class abilities zoomed in size indicating that they were the ones that could be increased with the stat points.

Status

Vitality:70

Strength:10

Dexterity:13

Intelligence:5

Wisdom: 5

Endurance:31

Agility:25

Health:97/100

Mana:191/320

Stamina:290/375

He thought carefully, he needed to increase his chance of not missing a shot to ensure his opponents would not get a chance to attack back.

"Add 5 stat points to dexterity." He whispered and turned to see if the demon hadn't moved which it hadn't.

[Dexterity: 13 + 5 stat points]

[Dexterity: 18]

That was all he needed for now, he would sort the others later. He let out an exhale and nocked two arrows on the bow. He repeated the same process of channelling Mana.

Suddenly, he jumped out of the tree and released the arrows and as he did, lightning coated them causing them to traverse at high speed and with great destructive power.
