Lethal Laser

On a far off planet in the future, war is raged for its plentiful resources and border position. Read the story of the soldiers who are fighting for their lives. Yada yada yada... Have fun! (Loosely inspired by Red vs Blue despite not finishing the show or playing Halo) PS This is a small project, so uploads will be a little stretched and may be abandoned. If abandoned, I will at least make an ending/epilogue.

Another Day, Another Battle

I woke up to the sound of Major Gunnery yelling in my ear. And explosions, but those were always there.

"Wake up, ya lazy bum, they're coming from the left! That's your post, Captain!" He yelled.

"Shut your yap, Sir! You just want to go to bed early! Just give me 5 more minutes!" I called back, all tired like. We have been running for the entire day yesterday just to make sure we all got to this retreating base in one piece.

That's when a soldier quickly ran in.

"Major! They brought the tanks again!"

"Ugh..." We both groaned. They just don't let up, do they?

The Major and I rushed to the base's built in battlements where our soldiers were currently trying to stave off the enemy. At the left flank, there were indeed tanks constantly firing barrage after barrage at us. They didn't even bother going through the minefield, the bastards.

"Major, if they know of the minefield, they might also try sneaking infantry through the right." I notified.

"Don't have to tell me twice. Good luck!" He said.

This was going to be a long day.

Once he was gone, I started thinking on how to take care of those tanks. If we keep retreating, we'll eventually be demolished, and I didn't fight for almost 13 years just to be killed by overpowered tanks! Too bad most of our weapons can't seem to dent it. We're basically just making noise up here.

So I called over Lisa Wessu and Liam Ham.

"Sergeant Ham, go deactivate the minefield and report back to me. Lieutenant Wessu, go to provisions and get as many rocket launchers you can get." I order. "Oh, while your there, get Sgt. Johnson to take his men and wade through the minefield all sneaky like once they've been deactivated." I order.

"Yes sir!" She responded.

"Oh, and make sure they equip the mole suits, rocket launchers, and shock absorbers."

"Er..., you sure, sir? Besides the launchers, that's some very expensive equipment."

"Yes, now get going. Be sure to report back once you're done" I confirm. "I never did like 'em." I mumbled.

Once I saw Han Johnson enter no mans' land, Lisa and Liam reported back. I gleefully watched Han and Crew waddle through the field a little, before giving more orders.

"Lt. Wessu, provide covering fire." I order as I bring up my rifle. "Make sure to only use the rockets on the tanks. They are the only things we have that can even slow those dumb things down and we don't have an endless supply. Make sure to use the smoke cover mortar shells, too"

"Of course, sir!" She responded. She then went to work.

Another Captain, stifling her yawn, then walked up behind me.

"I heard the tanks are at it again." She groaned.

"It's not all bad, Cpt. Kingsley. I got a new plan this time!" I responded optimistically.

"You're not just going to try even more rockets now, are you?" She mumbled. "Anyways, Muen, have you seen Han? I thought I had him on ammo duty."

"See for yourself." I responded, handing over my binoculars between shots.

She couldn't hold back her laughter.

"Bwahahahaha! You really know how to hold a grudge, dontcha?"

Then the tanks seemed to finally notice Han and Crew. After the first tank finished aiming at them, however, the group immediately used their mole suits and burrowed into the ground as quickly as they could before the tank could get a shot off.

During this, "Shouldn't you be running the Provision Team?" I asked.

"And miss the show? They can fend for themselves long enough for Han to get back here."

The tanks, unable to properly deal with the mole suits, began to press forward, changing their barrage into a charge.

"Everyone, get down!" I ordered before, much to the soldiers' discontinued horror, the first shots clear a part of the battlements. "Sgt. Ham, go over to reactivate the mines. Keep in radio contact and notify me once you're ready."

"Yes sir!" He responded.

"I still can't believe you ordered Han to take expensive gear on what's practically a suicide mission to lure in the tanks." Cassy Kingsley remarked.

"It won't work if their bottoms are as strong as their tops. Besides, those guys trust their spies way too much, so of course they know to track the mole suits. Dug their own grave really."

Over the radio, "Sir, the mines are ready to be reactivated."
