Chapter 40

I just wanted to clear out the curiosity which was eating me up slowly. Even though I knew he wouldn't like to answer my question I still asked expecting nothing. He focused his gaze on me after I ended my question without blinking which got me nervous. In order to avoid that gaze, I decided to speak.

"Urhm…., it's alright if you don't want to answer", I said looking away. That's a trick I always use to get Ana whenever she refuses to answer my question so I thought it would work on Mr president as well.

"Why do you want to know about us?", he finally opened his zipped lips to ask.

'I guess my trick is going to work on Keenan too', I thought.

"Nothing really, I'm just curious as to why you guys seemed not to be so close", I answered sincerely.

"Let me also ask you a question first", he said. I wondered what question he wanted to ask me but since I was ready to listen to his story, I decided to get along with it.

"Sure, what is it?", I asked him.

"Why are you not in good terms with Ryan?", he asked. I was shocked he was asking me a question whose answer was obvious but I didn't mind.

"Isn't that obvious? It's because he always wants to hurt me or bully me", I answered his question just as it is.

"Good", he said.

"Good?… what do you mean by good", I asked him confused.

"You stay away from him because he always hurt you and you want me to be in good terms with him too while you know he always hurts people?". I don't know if that's the answer he was trying to give me or not. He wasn't getting to the point but I can't force him so I had to be patient in listening to his drama.

"I don't understand what you are driving at Keenan, can you be more clear?"

"In short, you answer answers you question"

"My answer answers my question?", I asked as I get deep in thoughts. "Meaning Keenan always want to hurt you?", I asked as if I don't know what he was trying to say.

"Good point", he said and smiled. I realized there was a hidden emotion behind that smile but I couldn't ask.

"But..", he continued " point of correction, he doesn't always want to hurt me, he already did hurt me deeply".

Now I was getting the answer I needed. He's not the type to talk to people about himself , I could tell but it seems he was ready to talk to me and I was also ready to satisfy my curiosity.

"You don't look like someone who could get hurt that easily, so how did that happen?", I asked trying to get him to confide in me.

"Well, the old me used to get hurt easily that was why it happened "

"I'm sorry things turned out to make you heart so hard and cold", I really did t mean to say what I just came out of my mouth but it already did. When I realized what I had just said, I covered my mouth with my hand and looked away quickly.

"Why are you covering your mouth?", he asked when he saw my reaction.

"I … didn't mean … to say that", I stammered. It has really been a while since I stammered while talking.

"No need, that's the truth… I've been cold since that incident happened"

"Mmmm okay"

"Sometimes I try to get myself back on track but it's really hard to do so I just leave it for fate to decide", he said heaving a sigh.
