3 Chapter 3 - Lessons!

{3} - Evans Smith: Lessons!

Lectures were…interesting.

The System was incredibly accommodating. It allowed him to do essentially whatever he wanted. Pulling out textbooks from an invisible library the System, playing videos from the projector, or just allowing him to spend hours talking with his Student—he had absolute agency on what he could do.

Izumi was a great student. She listened attentively, and she was never shy about asking questions whenever something confused her.

At first, he wondered if he could even teach her anything. He wasn't all that smart, nor did he have any special experience he could draw from. And it wasn't as if she needed his help to learn—she was smart enough on her own.

But then his mind remembered just what his hobby was, and an incredible idea came into his mind.

Movies! Or, specifically, movies to give Izumi ideas on tools and weapons she could tinker with to begin her steps towards Herohood. And since his student was a girl with incredible smarts and a penchant towards self-sacrifice,

The first Iron Man movie were an obvious choice. Tony Stark's Iron Man Suits were a definite possibility in My Hero Academia's world. And he knew he'd made the right choice when Iron Man first appeared. Izumi's eyes had gone wide with awe, and he could almost hear her thoughts running with no end.

While the movies continued to play, he decided to check the Reward he got from finishing the 'Preliminary Mission'.

[School Expansion Unit]

[Allows the Scorned One to expand the School by one Unit of their choice. Choices available: Cafeteria, Outside Track, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Artificial Beach, Engineering Lab, Biological Lab, Chemical Lab, Physics Lab]

He smiled. Considering what he was planning to do, the choice was obvious.

[Choice made. Beginning renovation…]

The entire classroom began to shake. The projected movie shook slightly, and he saw Izumi look around in confusion. "Don't worry." He said. "I just made some upgrades." He winked. "We'll give it a check once the movie's done."

She nodded, and turned her eyes back to the movie. He didn't bother watching it—he'd watched the whole MCU several dozen times over. He could probably recite the movies line-by-line if he wanted to.

Before long the movie ended. Obadiah Stane is brought down, Tony Stark reveals himself as Iron Man, and the Credits roll. He smiled at the awe in Izumi's eyes, and he couldn't help but wait for what was to come.

"Well," He stood up and led her towards the door. "Come on. Let me show you what changed."

He pulled the door open, and they came out into a corridor filled with doors. They all had plaques above them. Most of them are empty, but one of them wasn't.

'Engineering Lab', it read. He pointed at it, and he watched as Izumi's eyes lit up. He smiled as well, and together they went up to it and pulled the door open.

And inside was exactly what he wanted. A lab filled with tools, accompanied by transparent cabinets filled with all sorts of spare parts. It was still pretty bare bones, but he had a feeling he'd be able to upgrade it when the chance came.

"Still have the movie fresh on your mind?" He asked her. She nodded back, smiling widely. He smiled back. "Let's see if we can't reverse-engineer Stark's work, shall we?"

"Yes, Smith-sensei!"

A problem immediately showed—neither of them actually knew where to begin. Izumi might be smart, but she was no engineer. And the less said about his lack of expertise, the better.

Still, Izumi had decades of information to draw from, and he had his System's seemingly infinite Library to pull information from. Together they read through book after book, followed their instructions, and slowly built their confidence in working with the tools the lab provided.

And after hours of working-

[-Engineering- Skill has been Achieved!]

That appeared, both for him and Izumi. They both winced as a flood of information burst into their minds. But before long, they grinned at each other as ideas began to spring.

They began to work. Hours after hours after hours, all blending into one another as they lost themselves in the work. Tools revved and whirred to life, and sparks flew all across the air as they tried and failed to recreate the repulsor technology Tony Stark created in the Iron Man Movies.

He wasn't sure how long they spent in the Engineering Lab. He didn't care all that much.

He was having the time of his life. Because here he was, working with Izumi Midoriya, working together to try and recreate Iron Man's repulsors. It sounded like some sort of drug-induced fever dream. Except it was very much real, and he was doing all he could to not break out into a happy dance.

But, eventually, it happened. Izumi slipped the repulsor onto her hand, aimed it onto the metal sheet he nailed onto the wall as a target, and fired.

And unlike the hundreds of previous attempts, it worked. A bolt of blue fired out, and smashed right into the metal plate. It, and the wall behind it, was melted right through. She turned to him, and he to her, and they grinned.

"We did it." He said, tired but triumphant. "That was-"

His words were cut short as she jumped into him, pulling him into a tight hug. "We did it!" She shouted. "We-, I can't believe it." She giggled into his chest. "I-I never thought we could ever make something like this!"

He grinned as he rubbed her head. "We'll still need to make an Arc Reactor though." He reminded her. "That thing's running on battery."

She nodded, though she didn't look any less excited.

[Izumi Midoriya's Lecture [Engineering]: Success!]

[Evans Smith: +12 Intelligence, +6 Skill, -Engineering- Level Up]

[Izumi Midoriya: +8 Intelligence, +5 Skill, -Engineering- Level Up]

[Izumi Midoriya may now return to her world]

She looked sad when she read that. It was clear that she didn't want to leave. Thankfully, the System was quick to intervene.

[Izumi Midoriya may return for more Lectures after 24 Hours have passed for Izumi]

Her sadness disappeared immediately, and he smiled. "Well, Lecture's over." He winked. "Good work today. You did awesome."

"You too, Smith-sensei!" She giggled. "I-, um, I'm heading home now! My mom will get worried if I'm gone for too long."

He nodded. "Rest up, then." He smiled. "I'll be waiting for our next meeting."

She beamed. And with one last hug, she accepted the prompt to return back to her world. She glowed a bright white when she did, and she disappeared a second later.

..................

One moment Izumi was in the Engineering Lab, and the next she was back on the tall building she was about to jump off from. Her shoes were just behind her.

She glanced at her hand. The repulsor she and Smith-sensei made was gone. But she was fine with that. She still knew how to make it—she just needed the correct materials for it.

She took a breath.

"It's still there." She whispered, and the worry she was carrying unwound. "It's real." She faced the sky and smiled. "Thank you, Smith-sensei."

She still didn't know how she'd shown up in Smith-sensei's school, nor how this…'System' worked. But for once, she found herself free of the paranoia she'd usually have.

Instead, all she could think of was Smith-sensei. Of his smiles and his words. Of his anger and his encouragement. Of the soft feeling of his hand on her head.

"Smith-sensei…" She whispered. Her cheeks turned just a little red.

She took a deep breath. And with her head held high and hope brimming in her heart, she turned away from the ledge and walked away.
