Chapter 1

  It was a normal graveyard shift patrol for Sergeant Jason DeLuche. The streets of Durham City were bustling with the sounds of honking horns, people arguing with street vendors, and the occasional street performer. So far, it looked like nothing unordinary was going to happen. Jason peeked in the rear view mirror at his best friend and partner, Rex, who was sleeping in the back seat.

  Jason quickly shook his head, trying to clear his head. He and Rex had been working together for about five years now, but he couldn't keep his thoughts from straying to his previous partner two years prior. Jason couldn't think of  how his life could have any meaning if he had never met her. But now he had to question himelf, what kind of person was he before? What kind of person is he now?
