Chapter 2: From the Demolished Village (2)

U-urg... Where... am I? I opened my eyes and saw that I was inside a house. I tried to look around but I couldn't move my head. I felt a pressure pushing down my stomach. I did my best to see what was pushing me down and to my surprise, it was the leader of the men in armour that came to save our village.

I tried to talk but I couldn't let a single word out so instead, I moved my body. The man woke up when he felt me move.

He rubbed his eyes and looked at me before exclaiming,"Oh you're awake! Wait, let me get Renald." The leader hurriedly went out and a few minutes later, he came back with a man holding a staff. He introduced himself, "Hi, My name is Renald and I am a wizard in our party. What's your name boy?"

I didn't answer. It wasn't because I didn't want to, it's because I couldn't. I looked at the leader who was also awaiting for my answer. He then said, "Oh! That's right! I didn't introduce myself yet didn't I.", he chuckled.

I really couldn't let a single word out. "Do you want me to go first?", the leader asked. I nodded as a sign to say 'yes'.

"Okay then. My name is Drew. I am our party's leader." (The word 'party' in this sentence has the same meaning as team or group). "I specialize in using sword so you can refer me as a swordsman but, I can also use a few spells.", he said proudly.

They both waited for me to also introduce myself but instead, I pointed to my mouth and shook my head to tell them I can't speak.

I heard the leader whisper to Renald, "What is he doing? Can't he speak?" Renald smacked the leader's head. Renald sat on the bed. "Sorry if this question is rude but, were you born mute?"

I shook my head. "Then, is your muteness permanent?" I shook my head again. Then, the leader interrupted the questioning. "Oh actually, he might be able to speak soon. I heard him talk back then that's why I was able to find him. So maybe it's just temporary."

Renald clenched his fists and punched the leader. "Then you could have told me that earlier?! Do you know how awkward it was for me to ask those questions?!", he shouted at the captain.

"I'm sorry! I just remembered it! And how is it my fault that you embarrassed yourself?", he said while trying to evade the punches of Renald. I giggled a bit but with no sounds. These two are quite funny.

As I was watching them, that was when I realized what just happened. My village was attacked by monsters. Mom and dad are... Mom and dad are...

I got off the bed when my memories became clear but I stumbled on the floor. My body was still not strong enough to be walking around. The sound of me falling caught the attention of the two guys.

They both ran to me. "What are you doing?! You should stay still in bed!", said Renald as Drew carried me and put be back on the bed.

I tried to get off again but the two didn't let me. I still kept struggling. "What the hell is wrong with you kid?!", Drew yelled as he trued his best to stop me.

My actions soon calmed down and trickles of tears started flowing down my cheeks. I sobbed, but the sound of my sobbing was still not stable.

Renald seemed to have realized what happened because his expression became sad but Drew was clueless. "Why are you suddenly crying kid? Are you sure you are okay in the head?", Drew asked. Renald hit him.

They both stared at me not knowing what to do. The words 'mom' and 'dad' came out my mouth and that's when Drew had a clue on why I was crying.

He lifted me up and carried me to the door. Renald stopped him. "Captain, what are you doing?"

"It's obvious that the boy is crying over his parents so I'm taking him to them.", Drew answered bluntly.

"But, he has to rest and––" Renald could not finish as Drew suddenly released a very taunting aura that even I got scared.

Renald did not move. He just stood there frozen as he watched as leave. I looked at Drew. He had a very serious face. As we got to the site where they gathered all the dead body's, I quickly recognized my parents that were about to be pushed down one of the holes created for the bodies.

"M-Mom! D-Dad!", I said as I reached out my hands to their direction. Drew took me there and told the men burying them to stop. He put me down.

I slowly wiped the face of my parents. They were cold. I couldn't hold myself from crying. I let out all of my emotions as I shouted my parents names. Drew and the other men left me there.

After a while of weeping and crying, I stopped. "Are you done?" I was surprised by the sudden question. I turned around and saw Drew. He was waiting for me to finish.

I nodded at his question. "Can you stand?" I nodded again. "Well then, let's go now. Let my men burry them." I stood up and went to him. He led me back. On the way, we saw Renald. He came to me and hugged me.

I was surprised. Boys usually don't do these kinds of stuff. "It's okay.", he comforted me and patted my head.

"So, what are you going to do now kid?" Drew asked as he looked at me. I didn't answer. That's right. What am I going to do now? I have nowhere left to go.

My silence answered his question. "Well, since you don't have anywhere to go, why don't you come with us to the capital." I looked up to him. "You sure captain? Who's going to take care of him? Besides, you are never good at taking care of anyone." Renald asked.

"I will." Drew answered without hesitation which made Renald reassuring. "He doesn't have anywhere to go and he won't survive out here if we leave him. He might not have a good life while he is with me but at least he has someone to take care of him, right?" Drew added.

Renald did not answer back. Instead, he looked at me. There was a moment of silence until Drew spoke again. "So kid, are you coming with us?"
