Failure with some successful fruits

John shot the spear from his hand and used his skill simultaneously making Lucas have butterflies in his stomach.

SHOOOM!

A speedy noise came from the spear when it was thrown by John. The speed was nothing to scoff at, they were about 10 meters away from the herd near some bushes, and aiming was pretty tough in this situation.

The spear was finally going to reach its destination and everyone looked with anticipation. The deer like creature that was right in the trajectory perked its ears up with vigilance and... before it could look at the spear, it was too late.

The spear was just too close, Lucas's heart beated faster, he was excited about the possibility of being part of a hunt.

Alas, nothing was this easy, the spear scraped the neck of the deer-looking creature and went past it toward one of the nearby trees.

BANG!

The spear's head got etched inside the trunk of the tree and it stood horizontally there.

The deer-looking creatures whose numbers were not small started running in a different direction without making a single voice making Lucas baffled by their agility.

"Damnit!!" John exclaimed with an angry look. He was gripping his right arm with his left hand tightly making others look at him with worry. He hurt his hand while throwing the spear with such force.

"Honey, it's okay... don't worry, we will catch them later.." Elaa came near and caressed his shoulder with warmth. A white hue covered her hand as she tried to heal her husband's hand.

Lucas had given up looking in the direction where the herd of creatures had fled to. He realized that they were impossible to catch up with how fast they were. Instead, his attention was drawn towards the spear that John had thrown, which was lodged about 5 feet above ground level on the tree trunk.

He couldn't help but stare at the spear in admiration of John's skillful throw. It was impressive how the spear had penetrated the tree trunk and still remained securely lodged in place.

Despite the missed target and the loss of a potential meal, Lucas couldn't help but feel excited and energized by the hunt. He was eager to continue the search for food with John and learn from his expertise in the manly jungle adventure.

He went toward John who was being comforted by his family, John looked at Lucas and was surprised to see a small smile on his face.

"Why are you sad? Don't you know the achievement that you have accomplished right now? That tree where the spear is lodged is around 20 meters away and you threw it with your bare hands. Now, what will happen when you practice and then shoot at those damn things?"

Lucas said with a smile, he said all that to not only make John feel good but also to tell him about what he actually achieved.

Even with Lucas's strength, he was not confident in shooting that far. The shot was the combined effort of his wind manipulations, strength, and the buff Sean gave.

John looked at the situation in a new light but still felt disappointed, he was an adult with a sharp mind, he knew what he did but it was still not enough. The only thing on the guy's mind was to have a successful hunt so that his family does not starve and they don't become a burden to Lucas.

"And if what I am thinking is right, this place right here is a good grazing place. Many creatures like these ones will try to come here to take this land for themselves."

"God, just how many creatures are here...?" Sarah muttered with a dejected look which made everyone think.

Lucas had till now seen many different things, some impossible to believe and some pretty normal.

It all started with the bunny from Earth, then the Vixenox, the wolf, the rapacious plant, and at last, these deer-looking ones.

Sarah's question made him wonder just how many were there and how dangerous the situation was going to get from now on.

"Oh, by the way, did anyone get these creatures' description text?" Lucas asked but only got some confused gazes. He was the only one till now that had discovered these description texts but it didn't appear this time making him wonder about the cause behind it.

After talking for a few minutes, everyone decided to move back as they had food to eat for the night and the morning. Lucas with the help of John, carved some markings on the trees around to tell them where this grazing area was.

he had already inspected with his passive skill 'herbalism' but couldn't find any use for these two to three feet tall grass deeming them trash in the process.

While they were moving back, Lucas couldn't help but feel a shiver down his spine, he looked back and couldn't see anything in particular.

"What is it, Lucas?" John asked while also looking back but got a shook of the head from Lucas in response. They started their travel back to the shelter where the necessary construction of the fortification awaited them dearly.

What the pack didn't know was that a group of eyes were staring daggers at them from a dark corner of a big tree, it was only a few meters far from the grazing areas.

Peering into the dark corner, one could discern numerous yellow, snake-like eyes glaring back at them. The sight was utterly terrifying, enough to make even the bravest soul tremble with fear.

The group of eyes whose bodies were unknown had their gazes fixed on Lucas's pack moving back to their shelter.

As the humans moved further away, the creatures slowly emerged from the shadows. They looked slimy and dark-skinned, with sharp teeth, claws, and scales all over that glinted in the sunlight. They moved with a quick and silent grace, stalking the humans from behind.

Ans as always, Lucas's group was oblivious was the upcoming danger.
