1 Chapter 1 - Kingmaker System

"Hello Mr. Blackwood, why do you to be powerful?"

'Who is that? What are they doing in my room?'

Oliver Blackwood opened his eyes, in front of him was a glowing embodiment of what a Greek god should look like. A Caucasian with rippling muscles, chiseled face, and golden blond hair. Oliver stared in awe at the man before him.

"Hello Mr. Oliver Blackwood, 3rd son of the noble family Blackwood of the Ashbridge Empire in the 21st star sector. I am the god of power and I have watched you desperately reach for power. So I repeat, why do you want to be powerful."

Even though Oliver struggled in processing that the man before was actually a god, he answered clearly. He remembered his days as a child when he naively thought that heroes were real and wanted to be one. Then, at the young age of 8, he saw Tobias Mercer, the first son of the noble Mercer family beating a commoner, he punched Tobias to save the commoner. The Mercer family soon retaliated by beating and shaming Oliver in front of all the noble families.

"Nothing matters in front of absolute power. Isn't that right? I will never be looked down upon, shamed, or beaten if I had absolute power. So I will not stop till I attain it."

From that day on, Oliver had turned cold, ruthless, and unrelenting in pursuit of power. He lost his friends and his reputation was ruined, but he tirelessly trained his body pass the limits of normal man.

"Good answer, I feel it right to give you the Kingmaker System now. Explore it, use it, and obtain absolute power. Farewell

Mr. Blackwood, and good luck."

With that the god waved his hand and Oliver was wrapped in a blinding light. Then with a snap of his fingers, the god of power disappeared.

Oliver was mystified by the screen that appeared in front of him. It accurately showed all the information of Oliver.

Oliver focused on vitality and soon information related to what vitality was appeared.

[Vitality is how strong, fast, and smart you are. Normal humans vitality stats range from 0.8 - 2.5.]

"How is my vitality stat so high then?"

[Your genes and multiple combat techniques are much stronger and are in greater quantity than a regular person. This is reflected by your vitality stat of 3.5]

The genes listed for Oliver were the Blackwood and King Gene. The Blackwood Gene was a gene that specifically appeared in Blackwood offspring. It allowed all Blackwoods to control a form of dark matter. Oliver's specifically had mutated to be stronger and more responsive and developed a purple hue. The King Gene was the only thing that he didn't understand.

When he focused on the King Gene, information appeared.

[King Gene: When activates, the user releases a dominating aura that can force people with low will to listen to the user. The higher the level of the gene, the better it works. Also creates an invisible shield around the user that can take a lot of damage]

Suddenly, another screen appeared.

As he explored the different options, he found out everything could be exchanged for something called King Points, or KP's.

In the shop, Oliver could exchange KP's for various items such as Genes, Combat Techniques, weapons, and almost everything in between. He could use KP's to get skills from the Skill Tree, to upgrade genes in Gene Upgrades, or combine genes in Gene Combination. It seemed to upgrade combat techniques, Oliver would still need to train.

He then received another pop up.

[Mission - Begin Journey for Power]

[Choose one of the following options and follow the directions]

There were hundreds of options but Oliver eventually narrowed it down to three paths.

[-Royal Pathway: Try to make friends with different royals and push for absolute power through a journey of political fighting to the very top. Rely more on your wits then your physical talents.]

The fact that Oliver himself was a Royal made this pathway much easier, but the fact that Oliver would work with the people he despised the most didn't sit well with him.

[-Military Pathway: Join the army and convince your father to give you some troops to command. Carve out a legendary military legacy that will push you to eventually taking over through a military takeover or pushing into a political career after your military days.]

This option seemed attractive, but Oliver was extremely antisocial and changing his personality to become this great commander would be suspicious. Not only that, but this path would take a significant amount of time before Oliver would even start to have some real power.

[-Criminal Pathway: Join criminal organization and accept and complete your first mission. Do this all while concealing your identity as a noble. This Pathway will have you using your noble background to climb the ranks of the criminal organization while eventually taking over. Will rely much more on your skills, wit, and luck to obtain absolute power]

The criminal world was ruthless and would be a difficult place for Oliver to excel in. It would be a great option though, as the people who he would be taking down wouldn't be able to find the real culprit as they would never suspect a noble to be part of a crime syndicate. In the end, Oliver chose this path.

After exploring the Kingmaker system extensively, he suddenly heard a voice.

"It is time for breakfast Master, your father wants to remind you that you must join them today."

It was Oliver's butler, Alfredo. One of the few people that Oliver actually trusted, aside from his sister Rose and brother Nicolas. Oliver often skipped out on family gatherings and was quite antisocial. He decided he would eat breakfast with the family then set off to join a criminal organization later. He already had one in mind.

When he went to the dining hall, he saw his father, Caspian Blackwood, oldest brother Pierre, 24, and second oldest brother Nicolas, 21. Also there was his older sister Beatrice, 19, himself, 17, and his younger sister Rose, 13.

All the members of the Blackwood family were fair skinned, had jet black hair, and were all handsome and beautiful. However, much to Oliver's chagrin, Oliver was simply too handsome, often bringing unwanted attention to himself.

In terms of strength, all of the Blackwood children excelled in their own fighting styles.

Pierre being an outstanding axe user just like his father. Pierre had already omastered two styles with the axe and was also a skilled wielded of all assault rifles.

Nicolas was a master with the bow and sniper. As all Blackwood children had to use a melee weapon he learned Blackwood's Dagger Style but due to the styles many flaws and weaknesses, Nicolas wasn't very good with a dagger. This is why Oliver has chose to use Lovette's Duel Dagger Style instead.

Beatrice was proficient with the rapier and was the best gunner in the family. Proficient with all types of guns, Beatrice was a powerful opponent.

Rose was probably the weakest and least talented of all the Blackwoods. She was extremely good with medical equipment however and was allowed to study medicine. She was still required to learn a melee weapon though, she chose hammer and as you could imagine, she was terrible with it.

He was, as always, the last to arrive. They had been in a discussion about the upcoming royal games and paused when Oliver arrived.
