4 The Test 1

~~~
CHAPTER FOUR
This day held great importance for the final year students of Hitachi high school. This was the day they're finally going to take the test for their element affinity. This would determine just what kind of elemental or physical ability user they would become.
"First off, I want to say congratulations to each and every one of you. I know many of you have been waiting for this moment all there life, but before we start the testing, there are many things I need to let you all know" On the school grounds, the kind-looking Principal said.
"How many of you really know what it means to be a mage?"
"No matter whether you choose to be a magic user or a swordsman, do not forget that we exist to further humanity's evolution…"
As the Principals speech finally came to an end, and many students-- Argo included-- discreetly wiped off the drool from their mouths, he finally came to the part everyone was looking forward to.
"Alright, you bunch of scoundrels; you will begin the test shortly. But before that I want to inform you that the college entrance examinations will soon start and we are required to present five students for the chance to participate in the admission screening of the No. 1 College in the world. Our very own… Yaoyang University!
The students turned rowdy. They're excited. Nobody could blame them though; it was Yaoyang University after all. Yaoyang University was the dream of every single student since they were kids.
Yaoyang University was the absolute number one university on earth. It was located on the capital of the United Federation. It was the school with the toughest criteria for entering. Every school were required to send forth their best students to take part in the selection examination, still yet, barely one out of one hundred manage to enter the school. The selections examination for Yaoyang University was tough.
"Calm down, calm down… The elemental affinity test will begin shortly and based on your school rankings, you will be called to step forward so as to check your affinity. In the meantime, be at ease students."
The principal stepped down the podium and started conversing in a low voice with the other teachers.
"Hey"
Jared stepped out from behind and greeted Argo who was standing in line with rest of the other students. "Feeling nervous?" he asked.
"Yes, a bit" Argo replied. " Its completely normal to feel nervous on tense, I wish you good luck though. It would be awesome if you could awaken double elements like your father. That will shut their mouths" Jared told him encouragingly. Argo felt a little warm in his heart. Jared was a good friend indeed.
"Thanks, what's the best element to awaken?"
"That would be the lightning element, but it's extremely rare. Only one in a thousand can awaken the lightning element, People like your father. Next will be the fire element, it's still pretty rare with one in a hundred awakening in it. The wind earth and water are relatively more common."
"Oh" Argo nodded his head. It seemed his father was really special. "What of those who are unable to awaken? What happens to them?" he asked again.
"What else can they do but curse their bad luck?" Jared sighed. "You need to have elemental affinity regardless if you want to be a physical ability user or a mage. Just that mages require more elemental affinity than Physical ability users. If you do not have it at all, you are a Norm."
They wanted to keep conversing, but just then…
"KENNY LEE!"
The principal shouted. "Step forward" the principal further said when he saw he had got everyone's attention.
Argo turned to the podium, and saw Kenny lee stand up.
"Oh my God, that's Kenny lee, he is indeed very handsome. I hope he awakens the lightning element"
"Yeah, I know right? I want to bear his babies. He will definitely awaken the lightning element… or maybe double elements" Two girls near Kenny lee chatted excitedly, infatuation dripping from their eyes.
Kenny lee wore an indifferent expression as he walked towards the podium. His eyes however, revealed his pride at having people praise and worship him. He walked until he stood before the principal with a confident smile on his face.
"Kenny lee, you are one of our best students. I hope you will do our school proud" the principal said with a small smile.
"Yes, sir"
"Good, now let the testing begin. Place your hand on the awakening stone"
With permission from the principal, Kenny lee placed his hands on the black stone on top of a table on the podium.
The Awakening stone suddenly started pulsing as he placed his hands on it. The pulsating Awakening stone started getting faster and faster until almost everyone could hear a faint beating resembling a heartbeat.
DUM! DUM!
This was everyone's first time seeing an awakening ceremony, so the students were all on tiptoes watching Kenny lee.
Kenny lee stood there with his eyes closed and his hands on the Awakening stone, when a sudden bright red light almost blinded everyone.
They had to close their eyes to cope with the light. When the light subsided, everyone opened their eyes in shock because they knew what this meant.
Kenny lee had affinity to the fire element… and it was a very high affinity, symbolized by the bright light.
He was suitable to become a mage.
"Fire Element! It really is the Fire Element!!!"
Suddenly, someone yelled from behind him. Following that, the girls immediately started screaming and shouting like they were injected with chicken blood.
"Kenny lee I love you"
"Kenny lee Marry me"
As Kenny heard the screams, he couldn't stop himself from showing a slight smile on his usually indifferent expression. His eyes were filled glee. He could almost see his future filled with Fame, money and pretty women.
It really is the Fire Element, with this; I will definitely soar to the skies. To deal with trash like Argo will definitely become as easy as squashing a bug. Pui… why was he still thinking about that loser, he definitely needed to set his standards higher.
If only little Kenny Lee knew what the future had in store for him, he would bash his head on a rock.
"Very good. It is the Fire Element. I expect your future prospects to be great at the least. Do us proud!" The principal said, his eyes full of joy.
"Alright next up is… Harry seth!"
A boy with long, black hair confidently walked up.
"Low level Wind Element, that's very good. Though not at the level to become a mage, you can become an excellent swordsman or mecha fighter. You just have to put in effort!"
Argo tiptoed to watch and he discovered that there was no blinding light when the boy called Han Sen was tested, The Awakening stone just shone a green light. That would mean that the Stone giving out a bright light signified High level affinity and lack of light meant low level affinity.
"Next, Adah Sun!"
"Low level Water Element…"
"Next, Marvel Saint!"
"hmm… No Element affinity?"
Everyone saw it clearly; there was no reaction from the Awakening stone even after three minutes of standing. It was determined that the student had no element affinity.
"Ahhh! NO!!! How could I have no element affinity? I want to be a Mage! Mr. Principal please check again, I definitely have element affinity" Marvel was in obvious disbelief.
"I'm sorry but you do not have any talent for magic, please step down the podium" The Principal told Marvel, A hint of pity in his eyes.
"Ahh!...I don't believe it. I must definitely check again" Marvel mumbled hysterically as he made to rush toward the Awakening stone, but sadly the Principal picked him up with one hand and handed him over to one of the teachers who threw Marvel outside. He wouldn't be the principal if just anyone could take things from his sight like that.
"Alright…" The principal clapped his hands, " Next, Jared Omah!"
It was Jared's turn to be called. "Good luck!" Argo wished his one and probably only friend"
"Thanks, it will be enough as long as I have affinity with any element. Even if its low level affinity" Jared said with a small smile.
He walked up and placed his hands on the Awakening stone. The Awakening stone pulsed a bit and then displayed a white light. It was very bright, and faints sounds of thunder could be heard.
"Oh my God, It's the Thunder Element!… Its really the thunder element. A mid-level thunder Element!" The principal couldn't stop himself from shouting excitedly. It was very rare to see the thunder Element, the last time it appeared in his school was when Rema Talean was tested for his element affinity. Since then, there hadn't been any other Thunder Element user in his school, but today he had finally witnessed it. And it happened during his tenure as Principal. He couldn't be more excited.
