The Sacred Minute

This is why there are 24 hours in a day and how hours became a unit of time according to the Oracle of Time which was consulted by an anonymous group of people who desired to know the origin of gold so that they could produce it. Little did they know that Time punished the underpeople of the Earth by turning them into his invention, gold. What a golden age they deserve for eternity!

Greed destroys everything, greed for power, fame, life, and many other pursuits. Even Time and Mother Sky paid dearly for their power struggle. Now, both parts of the Tamkit are missing.

When Time reset the world, he planted gold in the veins and stomachs of mountains. Wandering bands of people emerged from his creation and hunted for ten thousand years. They were a nomadic people which followed their wild food sources, but one day, a child named Mynus had struck gold. Mynus had discovered wheat and given it back to the chief of his tribe on the plains. Soon, this discovery gave rise to agriculture, a stable food source, and permanent settlements.

Civilization had started again as Mynus became the chief and constructed countless statues out of granite of the deity in his dreams, Time.

On the day where he finished two hundred towering statues, an earthquake splintered the land and a stone tablet arose from the ground, onto which these words were inscribed:

Do not be the bird that flies in the sky. It is an imposter of life. The shadow of death haunts all who fly. Throw yourself onto the ground!

The people that Mynus ruled obeyed this stone stele like a divine law. They never left the ground, tearing down all buildings that had two floors. Anyone who they saw have both of their feet leave the ground would be captured by a mob and imprisoned in the town square for everyone to see in their infamous glory.

However, Mynus, the most loyal worshipper of Time, sought to leave the ground with both of his two feet. So, he orchestrated a plot by gathering every citizen in his territory into the town square, claiming that it was a ritual done for Time. He purposely sent slaves to dig away the ground that was the foundation of the stone tablet, and when he began the ceremony for Time, it collapsed into the ground.

Mynus hurriedly declared that this symbolized that the sacred God had allowed them to depart from the ground once more, but just as some onlookers began to believe him, a horrible thunder boomed in all of his lands.

A majestic voice resounded in the minds of everyone, "Who is the one who has the gall to destroy the stone pillar which I have erected to guide humanity? Do you not know the origin of all life. It is me! Time."

Mynus pointed at the sky and shouted, "You are not the creator of life, you are its destroyer! My people, do not listen to this demon who seeks to deceive our minds and capacity to obtain success."

A thunderbolt struck the ground in front of Mynus, launching him into the air and causing him to tumble in the dirt. He stood up, declaring, "You try to deprive me of life. Listen here, imposter God! I have seen visions of you destroying Mother Sky with your evil magic. There are so many beautiful things in my life, but you disallow us to leave the ground. We cannot even lie down on our beds and we must tilt it so our feet are touching the ground. What treachery!"

The furious voice boomed, "You dare charge me with crimes? Describe what I have inflicted onto your people!"

Mynus argued, "I cannot describe these good, beautiful things. You have to feel it and experience it for yourself. You see, we are much more privileged than deities in many ways. Deities cannot listen to music, dance, be merry, feast, or rejoice. You are lacking as a deity for you have not experienced the joyful property of man."

Time pondered, "So this is the reason. Listen here, leader of the first civilization in my reality, I shall appoint you to the station of the highest divine priest and give you ten thousand years of longevity. He shall be named Minute. Here this out, all people of the land. Anyone who can inspire me shall obtain a bountiful reward."

Time departed from the scene and a golden light graced Minute as his clothes became fresh and pure. He looked saintly and immortal, and the people gathered around him joyously trying to touch his hand and receive its blessing.
