Captain Benet

It was the second day since the start of the 3rd expedition. We were 8 in the party, three mages, two tanks, one ranger and two warriors. We were selected for our skills, with our levels well above the average citizen or even the guards, varying from 70 to 80. Unlike the 1st and 2nd expeditions, which was launched to scout the immediate surroundings and check the availability of materials, we were assigned to look for other humans. We travelled north hoping to cross the mountain and find civilization. The party was silent as we took in the surroundings. It was a sight to behold. The mountains looms over us, casting a dark shadow at our location. Trees covered in snow scattered around in the ankle deep snow. It simply looked majestic. Though we had to be wary as monsters might pop out of no where and decimate our party. My musing was interrupted by Cobe, our ranger, when he suddenly stopped, ears perking and raising his hand. We were immediately on guard with his actions but suddenly he snorted then laughed.

"What's wrong?"

"I detected enemies but it seems they're pretty low leveled. Around level 8 I think, nothing higher than level 15."

We shared a laugh and started the journey again, confident in our strength. As we were travelling we only encountered wolves at first, then a barghest appeared. Still, it was about as easy as expected. We were starting to think there was no high-leveled monsters in this area. Then we started to encounter orcs and trolls, which still is no problem. In the morning of the third day we reached the summit of the mountain.

'I'm glad that we were all at the same level. We can move at a fast pace.'

"Captain Benet! I can see a village at the bottom!"

Oh! It seems that Cobe has seen a village. Having the skill 'Farsight' sure is convenient.

"Well, what are you dimwits waiting for, move!"

"""""""Yes, Sir!"""""""

We all laughed and headed down the mountain. As we reached the foot of the mountain, daylight was running out and when we arrived at the village, dusk have already fallen. As we were walking at the outskirts of the village, one of the villager saw us and immediately run off to which I assume to call for someone.

"Captain, should we really make contact during the night? Aren't they going to be suspicious of strangers approach the village during the night?"

He had a point. If someone approached me at night, I will be more cautious. Well that will be in a city, if I'm in a village like this, I'll be wary even if it's morning. I decided to joke to lighten the mood so that the villagers approaching us will be less wary.

"The only one suspicious looking here is you Hans. Maybe she ran because of you."

"Oy!"

Hearing my words, Cobe decided to play along. He acted like a curious kid trying to look at something interesting then looked at Hans' face.

"Really? Can I see? Can I see?"

Suddenly he pretended to look spooked then hid behind me.

"I totally agree with you captain."

"OY! Kid, come here!!"

We all laughed except Hans who is trying to catch Cobe but, as expected of a ranger, Hans can't catch him. As we were all laughing, I noticed that a daughter-father pair was trying to call our attention. They both had brown hair and similar shape of face, one a child maybe 12 while the father looks in his 30s, making me recognize them as parent and child.

"Ah, yes? Sorry about that. The name's Benet Sky, do you possibly have an inn or an empty house where we can stay for the night?"

The father contemplated for a moment then shook his head.

"My name is Farhan Harth and this at my side is my daughter Hannah. I am the village chief and sadly we don't have an inn. We also only build houses when needed so every house is occupied. We do have a spare room at our house with 2 beds for the tax collectors. I'm sorry but you will have to make do with a single room and two beds. Are you adventurers?"

As Farhan said this Hannah hid slightly at his back. I simply nodded while fishing out a few gold coins from my pouch. As this is an official mission, we have been given a few thousand gold coins so that we can procure lodging and food in case we find civilization.

"It will be alright, thank you and yes we are adventurers. Ahh and here is the money for the stay. Will this be enough?"

I handed him 3 gold coin and he seems to be surprised.

"3 g-gold coins?!? I-I've never seen such design too... Let's go to my house and talk there."

I'm surprised, that kind of money is barely anything but he seemed surprised. I wonder if the value of the coins changed. More importantly, he was also unfamiliar with the design so we now know that they use a different type of currency. We arrived at a house that is noticeably bigger than the other houses.

"Please come inside. Shall we settle this tomorrow since it's already late?"

I glanced at my team and noticed that they already have weary looks so I accepted his proposal to talk about this tomorrow. He guided us to our room and left. Silence prevailed amongst us until a childish voice broke it.

"So... who'll be sleeping on the floor?"

Cobe was already sitting in a bed as if reserving it. Cheeky brat...

"It will be cramped but this bed can hold 2 people... Okay! Group up into 2 groups, assign a leader then toss a coin to decide who will sleep on the bed. The rest would sleep in our sleeping bags on the floor. I'm bunking with Cobe. Braum and Hans you're with us."

Heh, If I'm paired with Cobe I'll have most of the bed because he's small.

"Okay, let's do this."

Oh, it seems Carim will be the one to flip the coin.

"Oy Cobe you got this."

"Yes, sir!"

Carim flipped the coin then hid it inside his hands.

"Heads or tails?"

"Head!"

Carim opened his hand then sighed

"Looks like we will sleep on the floor."

We moved towards our place then slept.

'Hmmm, recapping it seems we are in an unknown location because all places I know use the same currency. We could understand each other, which would be useful if there's going to be traders or travelers going from our city. It also seems that there are only low-leveled monsters around. The people are weak, maybe this is a low-leveled area.'

I slowly went to sleep, thinking of the things to write for his report.
