Chapter 10 Daniel's POV

It's been almost 2 years since Lisa died. I mean I try not to think about her to much, I just can't help it how can someone just kill themselves over someone else. It hurts that she did that because of me. And now I have to live with it.

But I have someone amazing who has been helping me cope with this. Eva has been by myside this whole time. We are seniors now. She is doing her thing with basketball and I already finished my season with football. And we were both accepted into the University of Denver. It was hard but Eva helped me make it possible and now I am going to college.

It is Eva's final basketball game it is this is the championship. She has been busting her ass to get to this point, I am in the stands with her mom and we are cheering her on. I am watching the game and Eva has the ball. Its down to the last few seconds and the game is tied 65-65. If Eva makes this shot then we win the championship. With 5 seconds left on the clock Eva shoots the ball and the ball spins around the net and boom Eva makes the winning shot. WE WIN!!!!

I run down to Eva and grab her and spin her around hugging her congratulating her. And not long after her mom comes to us and hugs the both of us.

"I am so proud of you and you Daniel. You guys have been best friends forever and you guys have had each others back this entire time. I am so proud of you."

"Thank you mom." Eva says. And she goes in and hugs her mom.

"Thank you. Ms. Lopez. I really appreciate you and appreciate how you have taken me in as well as accept our new relationship."

"I am happy that you two finally accepted the fact that you are destined to be together. Now I have to get going I am late for my shift at the hospital." She says while in a hurry to leave.

"Wait Ms. Lopez... can I talk to you real quick?" I ask.

"Yeah. What's up son?"

"I have something that I want to ask you about. Do you think I can take you out to dinner or a coffee tomorrow?" I ask realizing how inappropriate it sounds.

"Well Daniel you are dating my daughter this is a little strange don't you think? Hahaha"

"I know it sounds weird but what I need to talk to you about Eva can't be there."

"Well sure. It just has to be before I go to work. I'll figure something out to tell Eva so that way she doesn't think it's weird that we are having dinner without her. Tell me where to go and I will meet you there."

I nodded my head and that's when I walk towards the exit to wait for Eva to go celebrate. Kim comes out first and comes towards the car and says,

"Yo, I am starving. Is Eva out yet?"

"Weren't you just with her?"

"Yeah I am kidding she wanted to shower real quick." Kim said.

"Why do you have to be such a pain in the ass, Kim?" I ask her slightly annoyed.

"Well you are my besties boy toy now and it is only right that I get to annoy the shit out of you from now on." She says. I just chuckle and roll my eyes.

I am leaning against my car with Kim waiting for Eva to come out. Then Kim asks, "So what was all that about with you and Alice? What were you two talking about?"

"Kim it's personal. But I promise you when the time is right I will definitely loop you in."

"Sounds like fun. I can't wait to find out what this secret is." She says with a snarky smile on her face.

"It's not a secret Kim. It is just not the right time for anyone to find out yet. I only want Alice to know first and then if things go the way that I am planning then I will let more people know." I say.

"Alright, alright. I get it. You'll tell me when the time is right."

And at that moment, Eva comes out looking all fresh, and beautiful.

"Hey guys. How is it going?" She asks while I grab her and give her a kiss.

"What's gotten into you babe?" Eva asks while looking me in the eye with her big beautiful brown eyes.

"Nothing. Can we pick up a pizza and go back to your place? I want to spend some alone time with you." I ask.

"Of course babe. Lets go. Hey Kim, do you need a ride home?" Eva asks Kim.

"Nah girl it's fine I have my car, remember. Go be with your man, we will talk more tomorrow." She says while shooting me a wink.

I smile at her and mouth thank you to her.

We make our way to the car and I open the door for Eva.

"Ma'lady." I say as she enters the car.

"Aww babe you are just to damn cute." She says to me. We both laugh as I make my way to the drivers seat and now we are driving to Pizza hut. We are in a comfortable silence on the way, Eva is tired from the big game that she falls asleep in the car. I look over at her and think, "Wow she is just so beautiful. How did I get so lucky?" I run my hand across her face and make my way to the restaurant.

I order our pizza and of course her pasta and then make our way to Eva's house.

Once we arrived to Eva's house, I open my door and make my way to the passenger door and open it. I didn't want to wake her up so I unbuckled her seatbelt and then I carried her into the house. I laid her on the sofa and went back to get the food. While coming into the house I see Ms. Lopez coming down the stairs.

"Hey Ms. Lopez I thought you would be at work by now." I say shocked to see her.

"Yes I was on my way to work I just forgot somethings here. Well since you are here do you want to have that talk now?" She asked.

"I don't want you to be late for work. But if you are ok with it then we can." I say.

"Oh don't worry mijo we can talk lets go out to the back." I followed her to the back porch and we sit on the garden swing. It's silent for a moment when she says, "So Daniel what did you want to talk to me about?"

I got nervous I mean this is something I have been thinking about for some time now but I don't know what her mom is going to say. I know she loves me but this is different this is her daughter.

"Ma'am, you know how much I love Eva. She means the world to me..." I say.

"Yes, go on." Ms. Lopez said.

"I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I can't imagine being with anyone else. I tried to be with someone else but the only person I could think about was Eva. And I acted on it and now I am dating my best friend, who is also the love of my life..." I say.

"Ok Daniel, I appreciate everything that you are telling me about my daughter but I kind of need you to get to the point." She says.

"Ok I am sorry I guess what I am trying to say is, may I please have your permission in having your daughters hand in marriage?" I ask looking kind of worried I mean this can go any way. And she is looking at me with a blank expression and it is making me real nervous. She then begins smiling and says, "Are you kidding me? Of course you have my permission to marry my daughter. I wouldn't want anyone else to be my son in-law. I love you mijo." She comes up to me and hugs me and we are jumping up and down super excited.

"Alright now how are you going to do it? When is the big day for this proposal?" She asks.

"Well I was thinking of doing it at graduation. I want to get married before we go off to college." I say. "And I have the ring already do you want to see it?" I pull it out of my pocket and show it to her. Eva is not a flashy ring wearing type of girl so I wanted to get her something that matched her personality. It's a silver band with a medium sized diamond in the middle I paid a little extra for an engraving that says, "I am happy to spend my life with my best friend."

Mrs. Lopez is crying happy tears and says, " You are doing this. And I couldn't be happier."

"I am doing this. I can't wait for graduation." And then at that point Eva wakes up and comes to the door looking so beautiful with her bedhead. My future fiance.
