Chapter 39:Infiltration (2)

It's the start of another day, but today we are finally entering the elven territory at last. We were gathered around to eat breakfast. Looking at the window of Botan's room i finally decided to ask her about the bloodied handprint. I pointed towards the window and asked

"Botan-san, what's the story behind the handprint?" [Edge]

Botan looked at where I'm pointing and she laughed while explaining it to me.

"Oh, that? HAHAHA! That's just ketchup. Looks kinda fitting for this place doesn't it?"[Botan]

Now that I recalled the windows were broken in by the SSBR previously but now it's already fixed. Is it because of the house being part of her ability or they had to fix it manually I wondered?

"Do you lack sleep yesterday Edge? You woke up quite late today after all." [Noel]

I recalled back what happened back yesterday and blushed from the embarrassment of what I said.

'It seems I got too caught up in the moment yesterday... ' [Edge]

Calli placed her hand and stroked my hair.

"My boy here is still growing, after all, it's okay for him to sleep more." [Calli]

She had a bright smile white saying that which is unlike her usual demeanor toward outsiders,

"That's good, it's really good to see you that they both had made up. Alright, now we have 10 hours before the barrier opens. Calli, let's hear how you're going to take us past the barrier within 5 seconds shall we?"[Botan]

It's now in the dead of the night and we camped near the barrier waiting for the right time to strike.

5 minutes before both the barrier opens, it was a forest terrain that looks nothing out of the ordinary that hosts 2 barriers that separate us from them and the distance between both barriers is 1 kilometer. No one in their right mind would try passing through that gap especially on uneven ground. 3 minutes left, Botan's left some of her members near our camp to secure the perimeter for when we get back.

Calli, wearing a buttoned long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves folded up and long pants while sitting on a root waiting for us to get ready.

1 minute left, we finished removing any traces of us ever being here and Botan's SSRB will secure the point for us to return to.

"Calli, you can do it now"[Botan]

Calli stood up and patted off the dirt on her pants.

"Alright then." [Calli]

We all gather together and formed a circle.

"Ok now listen, to make this easier when I activate Shadow Walk I want all of you to think of a number ok?" [Calli]

"Huh? Why?" [Noel]

Botan looked at her solemnly and just nodded to urge Noel not to ask questions.

Calli activated her Shadow Walk, The shadows underneath her overflowed and it spread until it covers where all of us are standing in a circular shape. I closed my eyes and thought of a number.

Suddenly I hear Noel squealing so I opened my eyes, but when I opened my eyes, Botan and Noel have disappeared from their spot.

"Look likes your roll sucked" [Calli]

I looked at Calli and she was the only one still standing on at her original spot.

"Look, we don't have too much time so can just reroll, come here." [Calli]

I walked closer to Calli, she hugs me and softly spoke.

"Listen closely as I do it, maybe you'll learn it someday." [Calli]

"Ok." [Edge]

"Imagine the numbers moving based on the sound you hear, and what you feel" [Calli]

"Now!" [Calli]

I close my eyes and suddenly I heard sounds of something knocking on top of something, something is spinning and knocking all around the place.

"It sounds... It sounds like a dice?" [Edge]

"How many and what kind of dice?" [Calli]

'The chaotic dice noises settles down and all I can hear is one' [Edge]

"One, and it feels heavier than normal dice and sounds different when rolled." [Edge]

"Meaning?" [Calli]

" It rolls differently, so there are more than 6 facets?" [Edge]

"Correct. Now think of a number that exists on your die" [Calli]

'18.....!!!!!' [Edge]

I opened my eyes immediately and wanted to tell Calli I feel I succeeded.

"I-!" [Edge]

I see Calli looking at me who is halfway swallowed by her shadow with a light smile. She looks.. proud of me. I melded into the shadow immediately afterward.

"That boy does learn fast." [Calli]

10 seconds.

Shadow walk allows the user to jump from shadow to shadow but the restriction is that it can only carry the user alone. Without Calli's gift, no one could have made carrying 3 people possible with this method.

'Now what to do? I could fly,,, nope, bad idea when the SSBR is watching. I should put on a show then.' [Calli]

3 seconds.

Calli entered into a full sprint. She summoned her scythe and swung her scythe along the ground

*Shing*

Just like that, a thin crease was made on top of the ground and it spreads all the way into the barrier as both of them opened up.

Calli dashed into the barrier holding her scythe

5 seconds.

She runs along the thin crease she made all the way to the finish line.

3 seconds.

Calli covered only 100 meters in the span of 2 seconds

2 seconds.

With 2 seconds left and she seems to have failed, Calli immediatley dived into the shadow legs first in the thin crease she made earlier.

Calli moved in the shadow at rapid speed and managed to travel 800 meters within 2 seconds by moving in the shadow.

Calli jumped out of the shadow without needing to catch a breath.

She released her Gift and everyone was released from the shadow.

"That was fast." [Noel]

"I knew you could do it, or else we would have to rely on my cart HAHAHAHA" [Botan]

Suddenly a loud explosion rang out from a distance in front of us.

*BOOOM*

Meanwhile in Shion's room, just as she was researching a new magic based on Edge's skill. Suddenly all the mana measurement devices in the room began to spike and making loud noises that bothered her.

"What's wrong with this trash this time?" [Shion]

"Maybe I kept a strong mana crystal somewhere, guess I'll look for it." [Shion]

She took out a mana detector and the arrow points her all the way toward a window.

"What? Is this junk broken as well?"

From the seams of the window, there was a bright light shining through it.

'Its morning already?'[Shion]

Shion squeezes her eyes to look at the time on her desk. She immediately opens the Window to see actually what's going on.

A pillar of blinding light from the Forest has lit the surrounding area into day.

"What... in... tarnation...?" [Shion]
