Creation of Artemis Deathgate

Under the sparkling castle that towered in the middle of the city laid a place where even death itself would be afraid of. Forty children stood in a large dank room as the ground they stood on was the lowest. For on their let and right stood twenty knights completely in black watching. And one more knight ahead them with a staff.

"You are the children the world has forgotten." He said loudly.

"But this kingdom needs children like you. If you choose to stay it will be hard. But stay and you will be above everyone else." He continued as the children listened.

"The world has forgotten you and as such your names as well. A number will be given to each of you. But to pass this training you should know many will die around you. So choose. Stay or leave. The door behind you awaits those who wish to leave." The knight said banging his staff the doors opened.

Immediately about ten kids took off running past the doors.

"So you are the brave ones." The man said again and the doors closed as screams of death could be heard.

"Welcome my children, to the order of death." He boomed out as the torches lit his armor.

Ten years later.

Ten people varying between the ages of fifteen and seventeen stood in a small circle as the wet walls dropped from above.

"I can't remember the last time I saw sunlight." A girl said.

"Today's the last day." A boy said next to her.

But one boy distanced himself from the rest. His skin was pale but not from the lack of sunlight but rather just seemed cold. He wore tattered clothing and held a small sword next to him.

"I don't like him. Gives me the creeps." One of the boys said glancing over.

"Agreed the first chance we get take him out." Another of the boys said.

The door to their room and opened and they left one by one. They entered into a large chamber filled with light from the fire and twenty black knights stood next to the large pillars as one with a staff sat a chair.

"Welcome. Today is your last day before becoming fully fledged death knights." The made said calmly unlike ten years ago.

"So draw your swords." He said and they obeyed like alway.

"Only one of you can live. It's the way of death. So choose who lives and dies." He said loudly and watched.

At first everyone backed away looking at each other. So many others had died. They had killed about half of them while the rest died due to the training.

"What you waiting for. Death is our way of life." The man shouted and slammed his staff.

One of the boys rushed to attack another and soon nine of them were fighting while one watched holding his sword calmly and a dagger.

"Wait you guys. Let's get him like we agreed." One of the boys said pointing over.

"You say that after you stabbed me. Forget the plan." Another said clutching his bloody side. The girl was barley holding out but managed to hold her own.

But one of the boy were sneaking up behind her just as she made a glance she felt like she would die. But before the boy could do anything a dagger pierced his throat and she wanted to look but was too busy fighting. After twenty three remained looking at each other.

"How are you even alive." A boy said gasping for breath.

The girl steadied herself on her sword.

"I can't die like this I just can't." The boy said raising his sword.

His sword became covered in a blue like aura and charged at the boy who stood calmly awaiting the attack. That boy he was attacking was the pale one he wanted to kill from the start. His sword came down hard and heavy but was blocked by another sword. Then he felt a pain in his stomach.

"Rule one, never leave yourself open." The pale boy said taking the dagger out from his victim.

The sword clattered to the floor and the girl seemed shocked looking at what had just occurred.

"Please, I don't want to die like this." She said raising her sword barley.

The boy turned his head to look at the knight and the knight bowed his head.

"I give you two minutes to breath and then you may continue." The boy said taking a step back.

The girl dropped her sword and fell onto herself. She was wide open for a attack but wasn't dead. About a minute had passed and she grabbed her sword and stood up looking at the boy with no expression.

"Before I die may I know your name." The girl asked knowing the answer.

"Names are not used here. I am number twenty six." The boy said raising his sword so it pointed straight up and went above him gripping the handle with strength.

"But I will end this as not to make you suffer." The body said.

A then shiny almost light like thing cut through her sword and through her neck. Before she could ever react the boy stood three inches from where her body was with his sword stretched out where her head once was. Her body collapsed and the room was quite.

"You have passed the test. Come now and join me. But first someone get the boy cleaned up." The knight said and every knight walked towards the boy.

The boy was escorted into a hall that was clean had carpet and went into a room. He had never had a bath but rather poured cold water on himself like always. But this was different a butler in the room got to work immediately having hot water drawn and taking measurements of the boy. A hour later the boy stood in a office like room with a bookshelf and desk as two lamps lit the room. He wore a black shirt and shoes. A black coat that went right above his knee caps that was expertly made and had the middle folded revealing the black shirt a little. The coat was held in the middle by black wooden buttons.

"Today you are officially a death knight and will be posted for a job soon. But first a name is needed for you. So please look through these books." He said opening a book on the desk.

The boy was shocked but still obeyed looking through each book until he saw one.

"I have chosen sir." The boy said.

"Great and what shall you be called." The knight asked.

"My name... my name is." The boy stopped for second.

"Artemis Deathgate." The boy said giving a salute.
