00. Prologue- Three Pillars

Some things are best left in the past.

Some stones are best left unturned.

Some memories deserve to be forgotten.

Yet, some scars will never heal.

A monument to war stood atop a lone mountain, it's three twisting spires extended as high as the clouds. Overgrown with moss and brush, it had long been forgotten by humanity. The stone towers were cracked and leaning, with the entirety of the once-sacred grounds filled with a horrid groaning noise.

The very range of mountains in which it stood had long been shunned by humanity, though so many generations had passed that nobody could remember why. The swaths of untapped resources were left undisturbed by all. This truly was the place that humanity had forgotten.

But time hadn't forgotten.

In an age before ages, that monument stood firmly in it's dominance. One of many bastions which nourished life, it was known as the Fountain of Gaun. The three towers sent a stream of golden water down through the mountains, filling the rivers with an enchanting energy. Those who drank from the monument's water were said to be blessed with strength and good fortune. The Fountain was a beacon shining with hope and glory.

A single drop of blood, and it was all thrown away. In a single night, the Fountain of Gaun was reduced to a wasteland. A cornerstone of life, turned to a graveyard for hundreds; it was bloodshed unlike anything previously known to the world. Every single creature to drink from that monument was soon met with an identical fate, leading to thousands being massacred in just one night.

A declaration of war, and the start of a new era of never-ending carnage.

Upon that mountain sat those three stone pillars, never ceasing their flow of water. Though it grew tainted, and unsafe for drink, eternally it stood upon that desolate mountain. None questioned it's existence for none knew it existed, the entirety of the world's attention instead dedicated to the bloody battle between humanity, devils, and demons.

But while that monument had been forgotten by humanity, it forever was to stay standing, for some scars will simply never heal.
