16 Chapter 16: Progress
Kyou En's Pov:
243 B.C.
It's been around 2 months since Ouki died... And me and my unit have already left Bayou after staying there for a few weeks to make sure that they don't get invaded again.
I am currently in the city of Sai with my unit and I am currently observing the trainings of my new units....due to the contributions of me and my unit in the last war... I was promoted to a 5 thousand commander... Kei Ou who is my Advisor.. suggested to get mounted archers as it is currently the part where my unit is most lacking in... Me and Yi both agreed with this as we have always wanted to get some but never really had the chance since our units were mostly elite Cavalry and Infantry and we couldn't just switch them.
Lucky for me... I was a high enough rank that it wasn't hard to recruit some lower ranking nobles who've trained in both the bow and Horse since a young age... However using a bow while riding a horse was much harder than using a sword so they still needed more practice... This is the reason why I usually have my newly formed Mounted Archer Unit be the main force that fights the occasionally small sized bandit groups that we are ordered to subjugate.
"Your unit looks stronger than ever.. My Lord" Said an aged voice filled with wisdom.
"You're here... Rai Ki... hehe... Of Course my unit will be stronger after experiencing a massive war like that..." I said while looking at the Advisor who helped me since I was young.
"Haha... I'm sure You're father would be very proud to see that his Son has already reached the rank he once had before he retired... At a young age as well.." Ra Ki said with a sad smile.
"... Heh... Anyways how's the progress of the city plans I told you before." I asked Rai Ki after looking at the sky thinking of my parents.
"Sir, Our business has been flourishing after we've added what you suggested like the new designs of clothes and public baths.... The silk clothes especially... Has been really popular with the nobles.... Popular enough that we're mostly out of stock after just a few days and have to wait over a week just to get the materials again." Rai Ki said joyously.
"It is as expected " I said while smiling thinking about the current Sai where it is much more livelier and how resteraunts are more common here now.
"What about the cities defense development that I laid out to you a while ago?" I said.
"Hehe My Lord... Although we weren't able to work on it right away due to being busy with the businesses after you got permission from the King... We have already started and are progressing a lot faster than expected... Mostly due to the professionals you hired and the guards of Sai helping out... However due to the scale that you want our cities defense to be... It will still take quite a bit longer.... I'm sure you already saw it while entering here." Rai Ki said while wondering just how much I spent on this.
"Kuku... That's good... It doesn't matter if it'll take a bit longer... After it's finished... Sai will truly be considered a strong fortress... Although I'm not sure how the officials will be reacting due to Sai being close to the Royal Palace and not next to any enemy territories... However they won't be able to say anything since it's from my own money.... I've spent almost all my fortune on this hehe." I said while chuckling after I remembered how much money I used on this... But it's worth it.
"You have my thanks Rai Ki.... I'm sure I wouldn't be able to find anyone as capable as you on stuff like this..." I said expressing my thanks to the person who's been helping me out since I was young.
"It is my Honor My Lord." Ra Ki said humbly while smiling.
"You're too humble Rai Ki.... Anyways... I'd like it if you maintain a good and friendly relationship with our neighbor cities close by...I will probably be called for war again soon so I'll be counting on you Advisor Rai Ki." I said with a smile unlike before and showed him that I really meant it.
"Yes Sir, I will do my best." Rai Ki replied.
... I should probably visit my wife soon... She seems concerned these days... I wonder if something happened to her.

I am currently in Kun city which is close to the borders of Qin and Wei.... The Wei have been sending small forces to attack us after Ouki's death... However they seem to have gotten a bit more aggressive as more states have also been placing more troops around our borders.... I have been assigned as the commander of this place since there have been quite a bit of Wei soldiers sighted here...
"Thank you for coming to our aid Kyou En sama" Said an old person.
"Haha it's nothing... Rather than that... How's your health Ki Ka dono...?" I said while looking at the city lord who looked pale.
"I'm fine... It's just that there have been numerous attacks around this place which is making it hard to go out of the city or bring in people...." Ki Ka said with a pale expression
"Hmm...Yi.. send out some scout troops.... Double the usual amount this time... I want both their locations and numbers" I asked my brother Yi who was next to me.
"Yes... I also want to check the locations around here so I'll go myself as well" Yi replied.
"Then I'll count on you for that" I nodded before checking the city...

This city was only a small sized city... However it's defences was too weak for a city in the borders defending us from Wei.... This city would fall to even a 5 thousand unit....even less if the enemy had a proper seige tower... The soldiers are also mostly all worn out... If we count both my troops and the soldiers in this castle then I would have around 12 thousand under me...
"Urgent Report! Kyou En sama Urgent Report from Kyou Yi sama!" A messenger came to me and said something which made me serious and frightened in case something happened to Yi.
"What Happened?" I said while looking seriously at the messenger which freightened him a bit.
"S-Sir! Kyou Yi sama found a small fortress that the enemy is currently building! Their numbers are approximately 5 Thousand however most of them are currently vulnerable due to them building the fortress! He asks you to send your 5 thousand right now to attack them while having the city guards continuing their defence here!" The messenger reported while sweating.
Hmm... Something is wrong.... Why would they build a fortress if they only have 5 thousand.... Are they planning to stall this for a long time? But that'll be disadvantageous to them if they stall for time when they're in our territory.... Unless they're planning to wage a big war soon.... Or is it for a different reason.
"Ky-Kyou En sama?" The messenger said wondering why I was silent.
"...hmm alright....Ga Rin Take my 5 thousand soldiers and lead them personally to slay their commander and stop their fortress building." I said to Ga Rin who was beside me.
"... My lord... I believe this might be a trap..." Ga Rin said after looking at the location Yi was supposed to be.
Ga Rin saying that made me feel a bit nervous due to the fact that Ga Rin isn't a normal commander...
General Ko Shou who was renowned to be one of the greatest intellectual generals was an extremely cautious man.... After battling with many generals... He found a big weakness he had.... fighting Instinctual Generals.... They were people who defied tactics and made movements at the spur of the moment... Ko Shou had no way of fighting against these people other than being extremely cautious.... So he found a solution.... Find a rough diamond and polish it. He took in a student that went to war as a kid and lived there most of his life .... That person was called Ga Rin ... He became Loyal due to being saved by His lord and being granted a home... Ga Rin trained day and night for the sake of his master... Until he eventually reached the position of being his right hand man.
"What's wrong Ga Rin?" I said wondering what he thought of the situation.
"The Wind is crying in that direction....it feels like a storm is about to brew there...." Ga Rin said while looking at the direction Yi was at.
".... Ga Rin... You will lead 3500 of the troops.... I will follow after you with my personal 500 and the mounted archers soon after... Should there be something... Then I will cover you guys for your retreat... Be cautious at all times!" I stated.
"Yes Sir" Ga Rin answered before walking to the city gate with the unit.
I then get my unit ready but don't head outside yet in case the enemy see's me... I plan to follow them when they reach the mountains.

Ga Rin's Pov:
"Sir, the enemy really is building a fortress and is incredibly vulnerable to attacks right now... Although we have less troops than them... It shouldn't be much of a problem due to our strength and ambush advantage." A scout i sent after heading out with my unit returned and reported his sightings with Kyou En's younger brother who nodded at me and started riding behind our unit.
We were really close to the enemy right now... They would notice us anytime however we would still have the advantage due to their formation being in tatters.
But what's this heavy wind I feel....
I'll just put my faith on Kyou En...
"Everyone Charge!!" I roared and rode through the mountains while finally catching a glimpse of my enemies.
"Enemy Attack!!!" One of the Wei soldiers screamed.
However it was too late as we were already too close for them to do anything.... But why are the enemies calm...
I then look behind me where I feel the wind increasing every second.... I then realized my mistake... As I saw more Wei Soldiers coming from behind us and ambushing us.
"Haha.. we've caught a bigger fish than we expected hehe... They wouldn't have thought that there'd be another 5 thousand with us hahaha!" Said a giant man who is presumably the Wei Commander here.
"Tch".. I clicked my tongue.
