53 Chapter 53

All turned to chaos. Blood spilled over the grass and bodies fell to become one with the ground. Layak felt true fear for the first time in many years. He used to be the demon making people submit to him. He used to feel untouchable. Now he felt like kindling in a fire.

This new king had a strong force by his side. They were a wave that swept through his knights with ease. If that was not enough there were orcs, goblins, and kobolds appearing from being the trees. Their war cries could be heard by the heavens.

Layak ran for his life. He could see the men who served him loyally throughout his career being slaughtered like sheep.

He passed one knight who took a mace to the face and the head came right off hitting the back of Layak.

"Keep fighting! DO NOT LET THEM WIN!" Layak yelled encouragement towards his troops. hoping they could protect his escape.

He had reached the treeline as the battled rage on behind him.

"I made it!" he said in relief.

As if those words were a signal he immediately yelped in pain. He felt something sharp in between a crack in his armor.

He had taken an arrow to the knee.

"AAARRHHH!!"

Layak fell face down to the ground. The pain was one thing but fear and humiliation were another.

He had forgotten everything he had learned in the past and ran not only from the battle but his own men. This was bad enough but he had not even managed to escape after all he had done. The gods had forsaken him.

A middle-aged man stood above Layak. He held a sword. It was raised high into the sky. The sun made the blade shine with brilliance.

"Any last words knight? You dare try and go against his highness you must be ready to pay the consequences."

Layak looked up at the man. "My king will send his army to kill everyone in this sorry excuse of a kingdom! Your lord will hang from a tree! Your women will be raped until they are just trash, lowlier than any prostitute! Your children will be eaten by dogs!"

Dallin would have been filled with anger if this was the old him. Now he just laughed at the man. This man was personally trained as a knight and should have been much better than someone who had just recently changed professions from a bandit. Now he was lowlier than any bit of trash.

"My king will rise to become the conqueror of all. Dragons will bow to him, gods will fear him, and he will become eternal. Blood spilled by his hand will nourish the ground and form an unstable empire!" Dallin laughed before bringing his sword down and finally ending Layaks existence.

Kane looked at the pile of corpses. The victory was easily taken and the loot was not half bad but still, Kane did not celebrate just yet.

He knew that this group was not the first. The Kokar kingdom would send more. He needed to be ready for them. He would send men to enter the kingdom and see what it held.

They had been around much longer than he had after all and even if he was currently very strong he was still in his baby stage. All the other surrounding kingdoms had gone through puberty some even become grandfathers.

"I want the battlefield to be cleaned up and all the loot brought back. We shall discuss what happens next when we arrive back at the castle."

Kane gave his orders before getting on his steed and riding with his guards back behind the Iron Rose Wall.
