The new Commander

The next morning all two hundred were lined up on a dirt road getting ready for their daily run.

There was no certain amount of distance or time they ran for, they simply ran until they physically no longer could and then went to do strength training after.

"Listen up! The next month will be getting to know your team in getting used to working with them!

Cain step out!"

Hearing his name Cain felt his heart flutter for a second before it went back to normal, and he stepped out of line.

"Yes Instructor!" Cain yelled.

"Get a good look at Cain here!

He is the candidate with the best scores in every subject including physical!

He is now your designated Command leader and his every command is yours to follow!

Do you understand?!" Instructor Mosa screamed

"Yes Instructor!" The sound of two hundred people screaming sounded out before they all looked at Cain.

"We are yours to Command!" They yelled before turning back to face straight forward

"Cain on you!" Instructor Mosa nodded at him.

Cain quickly Faced toward the dirt road and all the others followed a second later.

The sound of their movements confirmed everything was completely in sync.

Soon he started jogging while being on the outside of the line while the others started running as well.

"Helljumper, Helljumper, where you been?" Cain's voice sounded out strong and loud enough for all to hear him.

("Helljumper, Helljumper, where you been?") The other 199 people yelled back in sync.

"Feet first into hell and back again!"

"When I die please bury me deep!"

Place an M15 down by my feet!

"Don't cry for me, don't shed no tear!"

"Just pack my box with PT gear!"

"Cuz one early morning 'bout zero-five!"

"The ground will rumble, there'll be lightning in the sky!"

"Don't you worry, don't come undone"

"It's just my ghost on a PT run"

The next month Cain spent his time getting to know his team.

They did tons of training sessions with paintball-simulated battles.

Each time he would change the squads so that everyone would get to know each other better.

He was somewhat surprised that not a single person showed any hate for him being the Commander instead of themselves.

But when he thought about it more closely, he realized it wasn't weird at all.

If someone else had been chosen, he wouldn't have thought about it twice before following command without a second guess.

Maybe it is because their entire lives they were taught to follow commands without question.

As time got closer and closer to go into the gate the harder it became to fall asleep.

He would have to lead his brothers and sisters into an unknown land and do everything he could to keep them safe.

For years he always asked himself and even the other kids what we were truly fighting for.

Because no matter how many times the instructors shoved into their heads that they were fighting for earth it was just never enough.

He didn't care about anyone or anything except for the brothers and sisters to his right and left so had decided that was what he would fight for.

He would do anything to keep them alive, at any cost.

"Cain, are you awake?" A voice whispered from the bunk next to him

He knew it was his close friend Blake as he was one of the only kids to call him by his name instead of commander or Sir.

"I don't think anyone is asleep Blake. After all, we leave toward the Gate in six hours." Cain said with a chuckle.

"What do you think it will be like, on the other side?" Blake said with a nervous voice.

"I truly don't know. But I can't imagine it's anything worse than what we've been through." Cain said.

And he truly believed that, as he and the others had been in the harshest situations his mind could conjure up.

Hell, they had even starved for twenty days and every day felt like eternal hell.

He could only hope that he was right.

"Yeah, I think you're right!" Blake said loudly with more confidence in his voice.

"Hey keep it down!" A voice said from the upper bunk.

"Sorry, Spencer," Blake said with a chuckle.

"Now go to bed," Cain said before closing his eyes.

"Yes sir."

Those were the last words he heard before he awoke to a screaming Mosa.

"Everyone up!! This is it, boys and girls!! The entire world is holding its breath right now. The day the gate opens!"

Cain scrambled to put on his clothes before making sure his entire team was ready to go before Instructor Mosa led them onto a huge plane.

"Where are we going mam?" Cain said while ignoring the turbulence of the plane.

All the kids who were sitting against the walls of the plane turned to look at instructor Mosa.

They also wanted to know but only Cain dared to ask as he was now considered higher ranking than her.

After all, he was about to command two hundred of the strongest and smartest soldiers on the planet in an unknown land.

"Area 51," Mosa said with a serious face.
