5 A Friend Comes

Back on Earth.

A man sat in an office and checked his phone every so often seemingly worried.

What is going on here the man said. Isaac usually messages me at least once a day but it has been 3 days and I haven't heard a word. I am worried that something bad has happened to him.

Sighing the man continued to work before packing up for the day and heading home. 

Arriving home he sent another message to Isaac before putting his phone down and sitting down and resting his eyes. 

As he started dozing off there was a knock at his door. With a sigh he stood up and went to answer it.

Opening the door there was nobody there but there was a small package on the ground, grabbing it he headed back inside before opening it.

Inside there was a key with a crab shaped head and a small note attached. 

[Hold this key in front of you and twist it like you were turning it in a lock]

Hmm this is quite interesting the man said. It makes me think of an anime I used to watch forever ago. Maybe it is magic the man said with a chuckle.

Holding the key out and giving it a twist he saw a small black doorway opening up. He was completely shocked not believing what he was seeing.

Maybe the promise Isaac made to me forever ago wasn't just a joke the man said. I guess he did manage to find magic and found a way to share it with me. 

Without a second thought he grabbed the golden key and walked into the doorway as it sealed up behind him.

Back in the Library.

Isaac and William stood by the service desk as the library door shimmered. Waiting by the side for a few minutes they saw the door open up and a man step through.

Isaac began crying as he stepped out from behind the counter and ran to the man giving him a massive hug.

I can't believe it worked and you are here Val! Isaac said hugging his best friend like he just returned from war.

Where even is her- Val was saying before he got cut off. 

Isaac gave him a kiss like he hadn't seen him in years which he hadn't. Valkyr or Val for short lived far away from Isaac. They both met at a bookstore and hit it off immediately but Val had to go back to his home so they have kept in touch through texting for the past 10 years.

Letting Val go Isaac stepped back as he began blushing furiously. 

Sorry Val I got too excited to be able to see you again.

It's fine Isaac now can you answer my question?

Of course. This is the library. A library with books from many worlds and also is alive I think. I don't know much but I know we are outside of the normal flow of time here and also that there is magic.

Ah okay so that explains why I haven't heard from you for the past 3 days.

3 days?! But I have only been here for a few hours. 

Well you did say it was outside of the normal time flow so it makes sense. Also what are you doing here Isaac?

Oh yeah I forgot. Smacking his forehead Isaac began talking again. I was offered the position of keeper here which means I pretty much run the place. I was offered the chance to invite someone here to offer them a job position and you are the only one I could think of. 

William interjected right after Isaac finished. 

By accepting the position of sub keeper you will be bound to the library and can no longer return to your home world. Also I forgot to mention this to you Isaac but by accepting the position after a month everyone on your world will slowly forget you exist.

Well I wish you would've told me that sooner Isaac said with a harumph. Glad I invited Val here before that happened. So Val would you be willing to join me here as part of the library and also learn magic?

I don't see why not Val said with a smile. After all you are the only family I have left and if you are here than I would rather be here with you. 

Then let us begin the binding process quickly William said leading both of them to the back before heading back down to the heart of the library.

This process is essentially the same you went through Isaac except for a few changes William began. Both of you stand here opposite of each other. 

Positioning them William began walking a circle around the 2 of them as the floor began to glow. 

Now then place your left hand out with the palms touching other and Isaac repeat after me. [With my authority as the keeper of the library I offer you a position. Do you accept?] Then Val state your full name and say you accept.

Understood both of them said before beginning. 

[With my authority as the keeper of the library I offer you a position. Do you accept?] Isaac said with a smile while looking at Val.

I Valkyr Silvanus Frostblood accept the position. 

Right after speaking the same thing that happened to Isaac began happening to Valkyr. After 10 minutes of hearing his grunts of pain with Isaac staring in worry. Afterwards he slumped down exhausted but fine. As William and Isaac helped him back up to the main library and took him to the changing area as William got him a library outfit. 

Isaac helped the exhausted Val change into his outfit as they kept up with idle chatter. As he finished putting on the outfit Isaac and Val walked back to the main area with a smile happy to be back with his best friend.

As they got out there William began explaining the functions of the library as the door began to shimmer again and an imposing figure walked through the door acting like he owned the place.
