Chapter Four- Family, Rose

Three Years Ago,

December 31st

I sat on the couch waiting for dinner to be made. I looked over to see what my brother Mark was doing on the other side of the couch but he was just scrolling through his phone. He was on one of those dating sites I think I overheard mom and dad saying they were going to create for him a few months prior. I got up and plopped down next to him and put my face in front of the phone to act like I was nosey.

"Oooo she is pretty cute! I like this one, but the real question is going to have to be does she like Doctor Who and Star Wars and Star Trek like we do? Can we talk to her about Sci-Fi and the universe when ya'll get mar-"

"Oh my goodness Rosey shut up!" He said pushing me away as his face turned as red as a ripe cherry tomato.

"Oh come on you know I'm just messing with ya bro, You know I'll love whoever you chose to marry."

He only groaned and got off the couch and made his way to the kitchen,

"What? Was it something I said!?" I shouted out to him as he walked away. I chuckled and turned my attention to the TV screen after hearing Doctor Who was going to be playing in a couple hours at ten o' clock tonight with the new special that was being released today. I was so excited to see my favorite Doctor in action again, I just hope I don't miss it this time. I don't have a way to record the episode either which is a major bummer and I haven't heard from Parker in a few days either. I should go check on him actually, I thought to myself. I got up and had a quick stretch before grabbing my shoes and heading past the kitchen to the front door.

"Hey muggrat wait!" I heard my dad shout as he jogged down the stairs. I turned around and watched as he embraced me in a bear hug.

"Daaaad I can't breathe!" I whined.

"Good! Where are you heading? Dinner is almost ready and mom wants us to go grab some dessert from your brothers favorite mart downtown. So come with me and Mark. You know he is leaving back to medical school in a couple of days, we should spend some time together as a family."

I peeked my head from his arms to see my brother laughing at me from the kitchen door. I stuck my tongue out and smiled back at him, I was going to miss him a lot when he leaves again for college. I guess I could check on Parker tomorrow anyways.

"Alright lets go then, I'm down for a mini family adventure!" I said as I finally escaped my dads hold.

My dad grinned widely and patted my head, "That's the spirit! Meet you both at the car in five." He said as he walked around me and disappeared out the door. I shook my head and smiled, I love how wacky and child-like my dad could be when he gets excited to spend time with us as a family. I waited at the door till Mark was ready and we walked out the house to the car to meet dad, who was already in the car apparently jamming to music as we could see him doing a some heavy head bobbing as his mouth was moving. We looked at each other and played rock, paper, scissors to decide who would have to sit next to dad and keep him entertained in the front seat. I won, which is no surprise because he sucks at this game but he is determined to beat me one day, so I hopped in the back seat and put my seatbelt on as I witnessed my dad grabbing hold of my brother and singing like a drunk man at a bar near closing time.

"Okay dad it's time to go, come on." Mark said as he peeled dad off of him and put his seatbelt on too. Dad let out a heartfelt chuckle and fastened his seatbelt as he turned on his headlights, put the car into gear, and we left the driveway into the streets of Logan, Utah.
