Chapter 3 Intermittent Fate

"Let see, how do I use it, again?" Feeling confused, I toss and turn the Fate driver, unsure how to activate it. The driver itself made from a weird material the weight is as light as a plastic but its cold to the touch like metal. I found a groove in the hilt/screen it looks like this is the place where I scan the card. As I inspecting the groove my finger touching the screen making it glow, startled I dropped it to my face. But before it can hit my face, the driver stop in midair.

"Nice too meet you lad!" With that greeting, the driver, flying away from my face while I fall silent, stunned by its capability to fly. As it flies, it spins around the room while performing acrobatic maneuvers. While observing it flying, I notice it fly hilt/screen first, so is that area its head? "Finally, after all these years, I can fly again!" With that shout, it finally stops flying around and start hoovering closer to me. "Anyway, are you my new user?" "Yeah, my name is Danny smith and you?"

"My name is Upsilon, and let me tell you, I swear to help you win this tournament, lad." I can see confidence from his tone and cartoonish eye even thought it feels weird talking to sentient dagger with a Y face. "Well, I will believe in you then, Upsilon" I smile while saying that, feeling happy and confident hearing his promise. "So, Upsilon as you can see, I'm bedridden after a shooting accident and the doctor ordered me to stay here for month's or more can, you do something about it." Hearing my plight Upsilon sprung into action by landing on my hand gently.

"Quick lad use my shop option, fortunately every new user will receive 2000 BP, why don't you by some potion with it then. Now if you want to open the menu, first you touch my screen" I follow upsilon instruction by tapping the screen. With that, the projection appears like a science fiction special effect, and the menu is arranged in the shape of a wheel

Looking at the menu, I can see how much BP I have and a small section of my stats too. If it's like a game I might be able to see detailed body data in status menu as on main menu I can only see 3 bars with label HP, MP, ST. "Now lad open the shop menu by pressing the projection icon." After touching the shop icon, the main menu disappear, replaced by a panel with an array of goods with a price attached to it. "Buy the red potion," I look for the potion option, finding three red potions in it small to big. "So, which one should I buy?" "Detecting your wound, I would say the medium grade one should suffice."

Buying the potion, I feel my internal bleeding worsen by how much I have to pay 500 BP for it, so I hope it's worth it. "Now point the back of my screen to your other hand." as I did that my empty hand feel heavier looking at it, I find a potion appear out of thin air on my hand. I turn speechless by how awesome it is, I remember there's inventory option, maybe I can store thing too? Without any prompting from Upsilon I drink the potion. And the effect is instantaneous, finding the wound gone and my body full of energy.

I decided to wait for the doctor first by sleeping, remembering he will be back later. So, I order Upsilon to go back to standby mode and I promise we will talk more at my apartment. I awaken by the doctor at 1 pm as the doctor ready for the exam, it starts with radiographs then a CT scan. Reading the result the doctor fainted on the spot shocked by how fast I recover. Seeing that the nurse panicked, so, taking that chance, I sneak out of the hospital with help of Upsilon using the inventory menu to pack my belonging.

At home, I call my boss for a sick leave, fortunately he approves hearing what happened last night, and he has given me a week of sick leave. (Yes, it looks like I have a week for special training, I wonder where should, I've gone to train maybe Slide Mountain in Ulster county? Yeah, that's it, I better go buy supply and rent a car tomorrow.) I start open my status menu

Seeing my luck Upsilon, exclaimed "lad, you are the luckiest man I've ever met!" I start laughing hearing that "Why, and no way I'm lucky just the other night I got shot by a nut job!?" "Average human being, at the least, have around 5 attributes in everything or 6-8 if they are trained, but you can't increase luck trough training. Well, except when you use the attributes point, of course. At the same time, a high luck mean you will more likely to experience the high and low of human fate"

I fall silent for a while, thinking, (maybe what he says about the high and low of human fate is true? I remember, one day in high school, I forgot to study for a test and by pure luck, I passed. But after, that, I fell down the stair and broke my leg because of my friend accidentally dropped his water bottle. And then before the shooting I receive a sudden bonus too after that big order even thought my boss is stingy as hell.)
